Pumpkin held the stone in his claws, eyes sad. He held the smoky quartz ever so gently, his feathers fluffed up as he stood next to where his children had hatched.

"Annie,", he called out softly, "Come here. I'm going to revive your uncle's stone."

He set the stone down in the small nest he'd made, shuffling gently. The rest of their family should be here, but Morganite couldn't be found anywhere and he had no idea if Sora was or even could come... at least Annie was here.

His dear, sweet Annie.

"Do you know about Simon?", he asked gently.

Annie trotted out from the jungle, fully fledged now, looking like the perfect cross between Morganite and Pumpkin. Her little wings fluttered as she sat beside her father, bigger than him but shorter than Morganite.

She was not her mother anymore.

"I have,", she said softly, "But tell me again."

She loved hearing of her family, of who they used to be.

Pumpkin nodded and started to cast the spell, "Well... he was kind. He was quiet too, but that spoke nothing of his spirit. He was brave too."

He swallowed and closed his eyes, hoping that he was able to revive this stone.

He cast his magic out and... watched the stone shatter into pieces.

It was silent.

Simon couldn't even process what had happened, just staring at the broken pieces in front of him, the last pieces of his brother broken on the ground. He reached out silently and gathered them all up, his feathers drooping.

"... Let's go home,", he mumbled, tears rolling down his cheeks as he just sat there, unable to move.

Annie couldn't say anything. Her mouth moved up and down, tears welling up and rolling down her face.

She finally picked up Pumpkin and hugged him to her chest, sniffling gently, "I-I'm sorry dad. I'm so sorry."

She flew off with him clutched tightly to her chest, grief welling up in her throat. Did the world have no mercy for their broken family?

Apparently not. It was just her, Hop, Pumpkin, and Sora now.
