QUESTS/EVENTS
Torrential downpours cause localized flooding and many upset cats. Along with these frequent rain, from gentle drizzles to heavy rainfall, there seems to be a flux of Magicka drawn in particular to water sources. Occasional jet streams of warm air make narrower tunnels harder to navigate. On occasion, the rain intensifies, becoming howling storms with sleet or large hail. However, the temperatures overall are a little warmer, with snow and ice in temperate caves somewhat receding.

Writhing, as if snake in nature. Wriggling, as if worm-ish. Angrily thrashing until finally, I broke free. It was almost immediate, lids flashed open to expose cerulean irises, darting about rapidly to inspect the area around me. Creamy in color, I almost matched the flooring. But as I was coughed out, I shook myself as best I could. It resulted in my fluffy ass toppling over myself, but I screeched a tiny shriek of resistance. Diaphragm was rapid in breathing, small beak cracked open just slightly as I angrily looked about. Confused, dazzled, dazed, enraged, I would not stand for this poor balance. I attempted movement, but only fell over myself again. I needed safety now, too eager to quell this incessant insecurity. I staggered backward, hitting against the wall where my floofy, feathered butt mashed against the cold, hard barrier. I looked around, daring anyone to come at me. Rebellious in nature, I was hoping for a fight. Why, I might scare myself with my intense caw. I waited, listening, watching, waiting for my balance to come to me.

ooc: trying out first person POV, rip everyone's eyes
Gliding was what I always seemed to do, attracted to the feeling of wind beneath my wings. It was as if the caves themselves were breathing silently upon my feathers. It felt sublime... almost perfect. How it was meant to be for an avian like me to be in the air. Yet, something was wrong. Something was awry. Grimacing in the air, I craned my head upwards to the ceiling. There was a special yearning for something beyond cold stone that weighed down the heart that beat in my chest... but what was there beyond?
Stone, more stone, perhaps a smaller cave, and yet more stone. Surely that damn cycle repeated itself constantly. Obviously there was no escape from these caves and to see what was beyond. Sometimes I would have vivid dreams of something blue... but they never lasted more than a few hours at most. What did it mean? Perhaps Giggle would know. She always seemed to help guide me, strangely enough. It's like she's seen more than I have? Those bones must really speak.
Back to the present. Yes, gliding. Every time I would spread my cloak of darkness and take to the atmosphere of Canis, something seemed to happen. Every single time. New Gembounds hatching, raptors, you name it, it happens. Today was a special day, one that celebrated the miracle of birth! Yes, I had witnessed that quite a bit... and by a bit, I mean a lot. Usually I tried to lend a helping hand to all who hatched in the bone room, but they usually just went away after a while.
Turning my head toward's the source of what would be a terrifying noise had I not been used to it. A chrysalis splitting. Throwing the weight of my body downwards, I made a spiraling dive iconic to me ( and other lammergeiers, if there were any. ) The sight I was greeted with was quite unholy. Shards of gems were scattered all about, a gorgeous teal in color. There was a little trail of liquid leading to a shivering mass of feathers... kind of like him when he first emerged. Was this finally another like him? Another bone-eating bird? Scurrying happily over with no regard for any manners, I watched the small chick with carmine eyes. Blinking and tilting my head, I smiled softly. "Hello..." Chirping quietly, I approached some more and continued, "My name is Azazel... what is yours?" Keeping the voice coming from my beak soft, I bowed down a little. I surely did not want to frighten the child!
The Ave inquired for a name, and he would watch as the eaglet take his careful time to analyze the sounds that reverberated through his crown. With thought, the young gembound finally peeped out his own sounds, but in questioning, as if he were unsure. Smiling softly at how simply adorable the hatchling was, Azazel murmured back, "Ambrus." With another peep, the eaglet repeated his name, more assured now.
Finally, the child would wonder... and The Bone King was glad to answer his questions. Flapping his wings and hopping backwards a few steps, the Ave found a bone lying on the cold and stony floor, with a decent-sized hunk of meat remaining on it. Lifting it with one foot, Azazel glided back towards the eaglet and dropped the bone before him. "Eat it, if you are hungry, Ambrus." he offered, then turned up to the 'sky.' "This is Canis... the Room of Bones, and home of The Bonebound, a group of other Gembound." Closing his eyes as if to be dramatic, he looked back down at the child. "It may be early to ask you this, but would you like to join us? We can get you food and keep you safe and warm until those little talons grow to be big and strong."

what was placed before me was something gruesome, however i felt not the need to turn away in fear or disgust. instead, i found myself drawn tot he rotting sinew and flesh, the exposed bone of which seemed to be the remains of the innards of a poor morsel. baby beak spread to pick at the flesh- tugging and pulling at it unti lli had a small piece of which i swallowed quickly. it was good, and soon, i cleaned the entire bone. he'd continued to speak to me as i ate, offering me a place in his group, his family. i smiled up at him with a partially bloodied beak, staining the yellow crimson. i nodded in agreement, happy to have someone to care for me. and one day, if i'm to grow big and strong, i could return the favor.
"it sounds great. the bonebound? gembound? i'm not sure what these things are, but count me in."
i then began to feel more at ease, creamed feathers no longer quaking for the life of me and my anxiety and anger dying down if only for the moment. cerulean lenses scanned the area, perplexed as ever but i will place trust in azazel. could i fly like him one day? he was huge compared to me. i soon found myself gawking up at the mighty creature, hoping that one day i will be half the bird he is.

Rufous crown turned downwards as he gazed at the eaglet, hoping he would fill up on what he could. Usually, newly hatched Gembound were very hungry and needed food. Azazel had been absolutely starving when he first began as a little ball of white down. Hunger had driven him to just furiously throw bones against the rocky walls of Canis until one broke and he could suck up the delicious marrow within. Since then, Azazel had grown and he was able to snap them with his vibration magicka, and sometimes even rocks if he pulsed hard enough. Azazel was vaguely aware that eagles fed upon meat, and not bones like he did. Ambrus hungrily pecked at the meat, picking it clean in a matter of minutes.
Absently, he preened at his feathers, then heard the small voice peep once more. He stopped and smiled, blinking. The Bone King took a few steps forward and turned around, showing the red jasper stone that lay dormat upon the base of his tail feathers. "We're all Gembound, Ambrus. All of us have a special stone. Mine is right here." He then straightened his posture, the crook of his wing straightening as he used the 'palm' of his right wing to point at the shimmering cyan stone set just above the eaglet's beak. "There's your stone. Stones are what give us life and let us breathe. There is magic inside of them, and we can focus it... like this." So, he would turn away from the boy and give a mighty flap of his wings, a gust rising in the air that was almost equivalent to the ones in Monoceros, but much more controlled. Dust flew into the small tornado, a spiralling column of grey. A headache thrummed at his skull as he utilized the magic, and he relaxed his wings. The twister exploded into a little plume of dust, which settled on the floor in a scattered collection of dust piles. "Everyone uses their magic differently... and it appears differently. There are some who can create light, and others who can whisper across the Caves."
Carmine eyes flickered over to Ambrus and Azazel simply nodded, as if to say, 'Try it!'

tempted the devil with my song

I watched in silence for the duration of azazel's display, and my eyes grew wide as he conjured something crazy, twisting and pulling in the dust from the caves. as azazel released, so did the little twister. he looked upon me, expectantly, and i braced myself, hoping to conjure something. and soon, electrical surges could be felt bouncing around inside me, ricocheted from one nerve to the other, and with the immense energy my little, useless wings flexed outward as i peeped a small eagle screech. i couldn't hold onto this much longer, and i released the static after a few seconds of it being so strong. breathing heavily, i peered back up at azazel, wondering if he'd felt the same shock i had, however minor they may be to him compared to my little body. my small beak formed into a smile as i huffed a breath of relief.
"hah! i did it! did you feel anything?"
boldly, i asked the larger bird without giving much room for his reaction after i'd performed as he'd silently asked.
"spoken words."

Curious, I was. I watched the eaglet intently, head tilting ever so slightly as he focused his own magicka to the gemstone atop his beak. Electrical sparks surged around the small Gembound, and that was when I knew. His element must have been that of Fisher's. Electricity. For his first attempt, it was very powerful. Perfectly executed. My feathers stood on edge and poofed up as the static field grew larger and larger, until Ambrus released it. For a moment, my body burned and I felt a little numb. After about a minute of standing there looking stupid, I shook my head and spread out my wings, cawing proudly, "That was amazing! That was electricity. That's how you use your magic. When you practice, you'll get better and better. Soon, you could make great big thunderbolts!" Silently, I really hoped that Ambrus would practice his magical abilities and fine-tune them to his needs. It would not hurt to have skilled magic users among the ranks of the Bonebound, especially those I could spar with.
Deep down in my heart, a great sense of pride ached, and I need to feel relief. Blinking, I smiled quietly. "You did really good, Ambrus."
i'd impressed the much larger bird, and a smile crept upon the stark yellow beak. he'd felt it, i was able to perform perfectly. "what is my magic?"
i asked him after a short minute of him speaking. i wanted to keep practicing, wanted to feel something else. wanted to feel that pulse, zapping through me. but i had the harsh feeling that not only i could feel such an adrenaline rushing zap, by the look azazel had when he'd felt it. all his feathers poofing out. i didn't want to harm him while i did it, that just wasn't very nice at all. but what a lovely tool when i'm around others, particularly others i dislike. a wicked smile spread across my baby beak as creamed feathers floofed up, flightless wings flapping about as i hopped closer to the much larger bird. "i want to practice. can i learn more than just this one magic?"
i asked him, eager to learn, eager to grow in both size, power, and skill.
