His pupils look... off, like they're blown out, but his face freezes just before he folds into a snarl at the sickening thud of Haven's head making contact with the stone.

Wh... wait...

The lapis dragon curls up against a wall in a full body cringe as he attempts to shake off the odd influence in his mind - he'd never attack Haven! Ever!

EVER!

It's almost like the rage at himself - and now at the small lizard who was currently being swung around like it was a bundle of soggy weeds - burnt away the cobwebs that had tied his thoughts around affection for the little creature.

He lets out a pitiful whine, staying up against the wall, the rage giving way to a chilling sense of horror when he recollects what he'd done to his mate... to Haven.

Oh no...

The little lizard had made it quite a ways down the tunnel in the time the dragons had briefly fought. Haven's charge and bite snagged it, killing it, but both dragons were where the lizard had lived, and where it had fled to to begin with.

Combat or not, minds cleared or not, the single lizard had fallen prey within its own little den.

The quiet sound of chittering came from all directions... As if through the wall, the ceilings, the floor, through every little dark crevice and gap in the rock.

The rest of the family had seen what they had done...

Oh no. Haven could hear them, and was thankful she was blind. She turned and rapidly started shoving Electrum back towards the entrance, panicked.

"Run! Run you sighted idiot of a dragon!!", she hissed at him, "RUN!!"

She cast her magic out, wanting to know how many heartbeats there were, wanting to figure out how many she had to kill in order to protect her mate and claim this nest as her own. Such a victory would be the perfect christening for this place.

Unless there were like fifty lizards, then obviously she was skedaddling too.

Electrum

"Wh- wha-"

Electrum snaps out of his stupor, and the unfurls his body to stand his ground, ears unfurling wide and swiveling to face deeper into the cave, and he closes his eyes instead of peering in, remembering a bit of what happened to him when he decided to use his gaze. "I may be a sighted dragon but I'm not stupid, I can close me eyes- stop pushing!" he can feel his heart pounding in his chest, and the chittering around him makes his scales crawl. "I'm not leaving you alone with this!"


The bright dragon does his best to pinpoint the largest concentration of chittering, and he lets his magic surge up around the nervous bile in his throat, and as he can feel and hear the crackling echoing from his throat and open mouth, with a deep and chest rattling snarl he fires the charged loogie in the direction of the chittering.

There were fifty-eight, to be precise--hidden back in the crevices that led into the rock. They were not yet visible, not exposed, and the electroball splashed its power over bare stone--but the chittering in that area became chirps of alarm as those lizards scurried farther into their holes.

The rest seemed to be moving through the walls, the ceiling, to flank the dragons--unless the two were fast. Or perhaps they'd try to fight them all.

"... Oh no."

Haven froze for a moment as heartbeats lit up, bright red and pulsing, the blood rushing from her face as dread chilled her blood. She pushed at Electrum harder, hissing in distress.

"Run. RUN! RUN GO GO-", she yelled, "Just- we can throw spells and rocks in from the outside!!"

She pushed past Electrum instead, turning her head to launch a spell at the nearest lizard, causing it to freeze up and hopefully fall from wherever it was clinging to, knocking its siblings down with it. Though really, their luck hadn't held up this far, so why would it now?

"Fly!", she yelped, running for the cave mouth, claws scrabbling on stone, kicking up pebbles and loose chunks of rock.

The alarm calls pull forward a single second of pride, they're afraid as they should be, good. But, the way Haven hisses in fear and continues to shove him quickly replaces that with a sucking channel of fear, and so he follows her out - trusting her non-sight over his ego, as always.

As soon as he feels the stone she kicks up striking his forelegs, he keeps close behind, swiveling ears and flaring out his wings to feel along the floor and walls as he almost slither's towards the cave mouth, waiting until Haven has taken to the air before he lets his magic begin to hum across his skin and pop across the air... and it does, with an almost physical force the dragon is glad to feel around him as he follows Haven into the open air, eyes still closed.

Electrum is having a hard time staying stable with his eyes closed, if they make it into free air, but he's got a plan... sort of.

"I'm going to wipe those lizards out of the cave," he snarls, static popping across his jaw and hopping between teeth and horns as his head moves, doing his level best to figure out what ways he's facing.

For whatever reason--be it fear, common sense, or maybe Haven's grip around a squealing lizard giving them all pause--the Firetongues did not follow.

The dragons would find themselves safely in the open air, and the angered chittering filled the tunnel behind them with eerie echoes.

Haven took to the air and hovered, flapping hard to keep herself aloft. She turned to face the cave mouth, relieved when Electrum followed. She sniffled and flew towards him, reaching forward with her hind feet to grip his gently.

"It was going to feed you to them," she said, "That lizard. It hypnotized you a-and I was so afraid!"

She bumped their heads together, her sensitive nose brushing along his head and neck, searching for wounds.

"I hate them," she hissed wetly.

Her spell failed and her grip on the one lizard failed, making her growl in disappointment. She had looked forward to throwing it off the cliff, stupid thing.

Haven flung herself into the air and took off, flapping wildly to get herself aloft. She swooped down and skimmed the top of the sea with her hide feet, letting out a loud roar.

She wanted to get away from those damned lizards, and with a call to Electrum, she was off to find a place to sleep for the night. They could deal with the creatures later.

Off she went, disappearing over the tree line, trusting her mate to follow her.
