SCORCH

A long moment passed by where nothing happened, and Scorch began to despair. How was he ever going to get the plant creature out of here--? At last, it moved, and he was able mostly to breathe a sigh of relief. But it was sluggish, and weak, and he didn't know if it would be able to make it all the way to Canis.

This called for a kind of problem-solving that Scorch had never required before. The owl frowned in thought as the pitcher plant slowly made its way over. He'd need a way to carry it without the risk of damaging it with his talons, but how...?

He backed up a few more paces while the creature followed, and focused on the vines hanging from the ceiling, willing them to wrap around each other into a dense tangle. He had never tried anything like this, and did not know how much the creature weighed and if the vines could support it--but it was the only idea he could come up with at the moment.

Scorch cut the vine-harness free with his talons, whispering a quick thanks to the plants for their help. There was a large knot in the middle, which he hoped the pitcher creature might be able to rest on, with several longer vines extending out for him to carry it with. A strange contraption, to be sure, and he was still not entirely sure if it would work... ah, well, he'd just have to wait and see when they got outside.

"Come on!" he hooted to the pitcher plant, encouraging it. "Let's go outside!" He took a few more steps backward toward Gemini, dragging the vine-harness with him. Assuming it followed without trying to eat him, he'd do it all the way until they emerged from the crack in the ceiling.

The pitcher "plant" continued its weak, slow shuffle.

The way the vines periodically grasped for Scorch, then shifted to catch the Lesser before it fell, it was unclear if the beast was reaching and pleading for help--or trying to eat the owl.

Either way, the plan worked; it ended up just at the lip of the crack, where it paused. It would be easy enough to wrap it in the harness--and the weight, though almost as much as the owl itself, was still not much more than such a creature's larger prey and could (likely) be carried for some distance. The slow and sluggish movement of the vines would not be dangerous, for now.

SCORCH

It was hard not to look back at the plant's stumbling path without wincing. Scorch couldn't stop worrying that this was it for the poor creature, that the stress of this journey would finally kill it. Then he'd be responsible for the death of the poor thing, the extinction of its species, and failing his end of the deal with the Collector.

Thankfully, it managed to make it to the fissure exit without dropping dead. Scorch breathed a sigh of relief, carefully arranging the vine-harness into the right position. "We're so close!" he encouraged, wrapping the vines around the creature. "Let's get you some sun, yeah? You must have spent ages there without any..."

He squeezed out of the fissure, flapping his wings clumsily as his eyes adjusted to the orb-light, then turned around to grab the harness in his talons. "It might be a rough ride!" he warned, before tugging the plant Lesser into the open, losing some height as he adjusted to the weight. Thank goodness Canis is only a room away. It was time to get this creature some help.

The 'plant' fell still, at last, perhaps exhausted. Or maybe it was just resigned to its fate of being abruptly cast into the sky. Either way, it would remain still for now, until deposited at their destination: an amiable enough passenger, if a heavy one.
