The defensiveness made his eyebrows raise. Ah, sorry for prying so much. I simply wanted to get an idea of what to expect. He sighed in an almost over-dramatic show of apology that he absolutely did not mean. "I suppose I'll just have to see for myself, if it speaks to me at all." An edge of suspicious lined his voice. If it speaks at all, not because he'd be somehow unworthy, but because the boar was lying through his teeth.

Then his eager opponent came crashing into his legs. Off-balanced and with very little time to react, Melinoe directed all this newfound moment directly at the boar. Hopefully, if the boar didn't immediately dart away, he'd be able to crush him like some sort of bug. However, somehow the boar was able to slip out, and Melinoe was now flat on the ground with nothing to show for it.

To his delight (and surprise, though he'd never admit it—not even to himself), the lion tripped perfectly. Edric was not one to waste an opportunity like this. Goring someone was maybe not best practice for a spar, but it would be HILARIOUS. Or! Jumping up and down on the fallen lion, if only he could balance! The peak of comedy! Alas. If he had had time, Edric would have heaved a wistful sigh. Maybe next time.

He settled for the next best thing: kicking Melinoe. Yes, while he was down. The lion had asked Edric to beat him in a fight, not to act like a paragon of chivalry. Cackling gleefully, the boar aimed a vicious kick at the lion's chest.

This was NOT how it was supposed to go. He was BETTER than this, lying on the group because a STUPID BOAR ran into his legs. How was he even that fast? One of his legs was made of stone! The boar can running back before Melinoe could even properly right himself, this time kicking him harshly in the ribs.

Mustering a deep growl, he swiped at the boar while he was still close. Hopefully he'd hit him right in the face, but at this point any sort of hurt would be satisfying. His paw missed the boar's face, but he still landed a substantial hit on his chest as he began to get back to his feet.

Edric reeled as the lion hit him with a massive paw. "oof!" he gasped, staggering back. His chest hurt now! What an awful feeling! And the lion was starting to get up. Not if Edric could help it! Edric threw himself shoulder-first at Melinoe's legs again, aiming to topple him again with his weight. He was putting so much force into it that the impact would probably unbalance him as well, but Edric didn't care! As long as the lion got hit too, it was all part of the fun!

He was just straightening up into a proper fighting posture when the boar came charging forward right again, crashing against his foreleg with a surprising amount of force. He would've been impressed had he got been embarressed FURIOUS because this dumb little piglet was NOT supposed to be winning.

Letting the boar run circles around him was a mistake that outta end now. This particular tactic hadn't worked earlier, but it had to work NOW, right? He swiped both arms forward, trying to snatch Edric closer and use his remaining momentum to fall directly on top of him. This time, it worked like a charm, and all 300 or so pounds of lion crashing directly on top of his poor opponent.

He had a brief moment to panic as Melinoe was falling in the wrong direction NO before the lion came crashing down on him. "OOF!" Edric grunted again, this time with more force as all the air was knocked out of his lungs by the impact. Weirdlight and Whispers, this lion had NO RIGHT to weigh this much. Edric could barely inhale, which was a very good reason to start panicking.

He thrashed as best he could under Melinoe's weight. One leg was pinned in an awkward position, and one was made of stone and didn't move all that flexibly, but Edric could flail the other two about all he wanted. And flail he did, lashing out wildly with his hooves. He wanted this lion OFF OF HIM. NOW.

Victory was short-lived as his opponent began to (very understandably) panic under his weight. This panicking was evidentially very effective, thrashing hooves causing impacts that'd surely turn to nasty bruises, and the sharp edges were enough to create small cuts and scraps. When a hoof nearly landed right in his eye, he decided it'd be best to back off and 'reevaluate' the situation.

He stood up, backing up, but not before aiming a whawp at the boars face, or whatever he could reach without getting kicked, really. Again, he missed the face, landing a still decent punch on the boar's side.

To add insult and injury on top of preexisting injury, his opponent kicked--or well, smacked--him in the side before finally GETTING OFF OF HIM, much like Edric had kicked the lion in the ribs only moments earlier. Edric gasped for air, the bruises all over his chest aching as he inhaled.

"You will not defeat me!" he grunted, once he'd gotten enough air in his lungs to brag again. Then he charged Melinoe again. But a different side this time. Maybe that'd confuse the lion enough to stop him from landing on Edric. That, or Edric could just be smarter this time, and not get fallen on. Yeah! He wasn't gonna fall to the same trick twice!

At least he'd managed to do something other than fall over and over again like an idiot. The boar gasped for air, and Melinoe let him, feeling the ache of his own bruises. This certainly wasn't how he'd expected the fight to go, but it was interesting nonetheless. If the boar was beating him this badly, maybe there was some truth to his claim. Maybe this was the power he'd been granted.

And then he was being charged at again. Far to fast to react, and annoyingly effective. "Is this the only trick you know?" He growled, swinging at Edric as he fell. He wouldn't be able to hit Edric again, but he needed to do something.

Unluckily, he only managed to his the boar's stone leg, the one thing he didn't want to hit. He let out a small, frustrated hiss of pain as he dealt damage only to himself.

To Edric's immense delight, he did not in fact fall for the same trick twice, only stumbling a little when his leg was hit. The same couldn't really be said of the lion, though. "It's an excellent trick," he gloated with a toss of his head as Melinoe fell once again. "Clearly."

Backing away (he thought he'd made his point by now), Edric gave the lion a smug look. His ribs ached awfully, but it was nothing next to the satisfaction he felt. "Well? Was that convincing enough for you?"
