CHARON
The very mountains whisper your name...

”I know she wouldn't just leave, but something happened,” he said with a helpless shrug, ”I just don't know what. She might be in Pisces, I don't know. I never found Pisces, I only barely managed to get here after wandering all over the place for a bit. My sense of direction isn't very good.”

”I don't think so,” Charon said, ”I was the only one she had, I think. She made me from an ice worm stone, it's this great big worm that burrows in the snow in Ursa, they're huge and not very fun to encounter.”

He shook his head and swallowed, "But how do you get bigger, Dread? Bone told me you knew how to do that, and I though maybe if I figured that out, I could get bigger wings and fly properly. It'd make it easier to visit, I think.”

"YOU WOULD LIKE PISCES," Dread said, rudely making it more a statement than a guess. "ASIMONA LIKED IT. IT WAS COLD. IT WAS PRETTY--LIKE HER STONE. LIKE DIAMONDS IN WATER." Perhaps surprisingly poetic from the big beast. "BUT IT IS VERY FAR FROM HERE," he added--and Ursa certainly held its own beauty. But to Dread, he associated Asimona with Pisces most of all, and imagined Charon might have liked it more; Ursa's beauty was rough mountainsides and bitter storms, a true wilderness type of beauty, whereas Pisces's was the glitter of light in water droplets and the shimmer of the great lagoon.

"MY TAIL?" he asked, glancing back at his now-long tail, then back at Charon. "IT WAS MOSTLY MY TAIL THAT GREW. I DON'T KNOW HOW, EXACTLY. I WENT TO SLEEP IN MY STONE, SOMETIMES, AND WOKE UP AND IT WAS LONGER!" If he'd had known how to control the results of his chrysalis, he'd have been a hundred feet long and unstoppable.

Bone settled in to listen, looking between the two as they spoke. She was basking, meanwhile--enjoying the light while she could. Her contribution to the conversation was only a little one: "I can show you Pisces some time, if you want. Maybe Mom's there," she added, though she was careful to keep her voice neutral. No point in getting their hopes up too high.

CHARON
The very mountains whisper your name...

”It sounds nice,” Charon agreed, thankfully oblivious to Dread's rudeness, ”I have the same stone as her, actually, and her magic.”

He swung his tail around to show the long scythe that cut through the very tip, meaning that when it dragged along behind him, it was twisted to one side. He didn't have the height of a rear end to lift it up, however, so it would probably end up deforming his tail at some point.

”I'd like to go to Pisces,” he said, facing Bone, ”Thanks, I think I'd just get lost if I went myself.”

Charon sighed softly and stared for a moment at Dread's tail, brows set in a heavier frown. All Dread did was go into chrysalis and then... come out like that? It sounded so simple, surely that couldn't be all there was.

”Is there a safe place around here I could try to do that?”, he asked, ”Like a hole in the cliffs or something, near the ground, preferably. Maybe I could try to do that and we can see if anything happened when I come out.”

He was eager to try, judging by how his tail flicked back and forth, the scythe leaving deep ruts in the sand.

Dread considered, eyeing Charon. "NO," he answered, when he couldn't think of anywhere appropriate off the top of his head. But--BUT!

The dragon turned, without warning or explanation, and took two long, leaping bounds. His feet struck the sand as he landed from the second, and with this momentum he leapt skyward--wings catching his weight on the warm wind and carrying him a bit away. He didn't go high--or far, even; he swept back down, coasting in along the beach until he was skirting the edge of the trees. Abruptly his wings lifted at an angle and he dropped much lower, his tail lifting, then slamming down as he skimmed the earth and sand.

Magic came with the sudden sweep downward of his tail--wings pumping to lift him higher, the entire momentum of his lifting body tearing his obsidian-edged tail into the ground. The hit was imbued with magic, and with a shattering crack a hole tore through the ground, a splitting fissure that gaped like a huge jaw at the trees' edge.

Dread curved higher, silhouetted briefly against the sky's light, then back and down again, sweeping in for a second landing. One plume of sand later and he was wing-walking toward the pair. "YES," he called, and as he drew closer, glanced back at it: "YOU COULD REST IN THERE. I COULD SEE IT FROM MY NEST AND CHECK ON YOU."

It wasn't the most common sense solution, but it was... efficient, at the very least.

Dread abruptly taking flight baffled Bone; she couldn't explain or apologize, and just watched--bemused--as he took off.

"He-... Just be patient," she advised. At first, she wasn't sure why he'd split a hole in the ground--but his explanation actually made sense, even if diving down into a deep ravine near-ish to the sea didn't seem spectacularly wise to her. But then, Dread knew Leo better than she; if he didn't think the water came up to the treeline, then it probably didn't.

"Oh, thanks Dad," she said, trying for kind enthusiasm even if it was a bit bizarre. She looked to Charon. "Something would need to knock you into your gemstone, though. I think bad injury does it. I'm not sure... how that'd work, though," she explained, "Or... how or why Dad does it without--getting hurt. Usually. His last sleep was because he got sick, from Blight's magic."

She shrugged, a little. "You could, uh, always use my cave, too," she pointed out.

CHARON
The very mountains whisper your name...

Charon blinked and watched as Dread took off, about to question it before Bone spoke.

"He-... just be patient."

So he waited despite such a thing not being one of his strong suits, shifting from leg to leg as he watched Dread fly off, wondering what the hell the dragon was doing. He covered his eyes as Dread landed, not wanting to get sand in them, and peered at the larger dragon, puzzled.

”... Oh,” he said dumbly, ”That works. Uh...”

He looked over at Bone a bit helplessly and shrugged, ”I know, but he did all that, it'd be rude to turn him down, right?”

Charon was nervous at the injury part, wondering who would have to inflict it upon him. But he shook that off for now and slithered towards the fissure in the sand, arms walking along the sand as he did so.

”... I'm starting to have second thoughts,” he admitted, mumbling quietly as he stared down into the hole, and then back at the other two, ”... It's safe, right? To uh... to go into a chrysalis?”

Dread peered quizzically at Charon. "YOU'RE DOING IT NOW?" he asked, surprised. He figured they'd... he didn't know. Talk. Get to know one another. Eat, maybe discuss treasures or something. He wing-walked over, glancing at the hole. "IT ISN'T SAFE. YOU ALMOST DIE. THE STONE SAVES YOU. I DON'T KNOW WHY I JUST SLEEP," he added, in explanation.

Maybe he was special, somehow? He'd never really thought about it, before.

Bone was lingering nearby, silent, and he glanced to her as if for help--but she only watched Charon, pensively.

CHARON
The very mountains whisper your name...

Charon's head shot up, ”No! No not right now, that'd be stupid. Sorry.”

He leaned back and then over at Dread, ”You mentioned your 'things'. What kind of things? Just like... bones and stuff?”

He had no hoard, nor did he have the time nor the den to really put one into. He had an urge to collect things, yes, but without anywhere to put such things it was rather pointless.

”Are your markings real?”, he asked, rather childish questions for one his age, though to be fair he hadn't really grown up in the normal sense.

Charon had only talked with Carja since leaving to try and find other dragons, and with how childish and immature she was at the time, it made a bit of sense. Perhaps in time he'd grow up a bit.

If he found the questions childish, he made no sign--possibly because he himself was hardly known for intellect or for emotional maturity. Fins rose slightly--maybe taken aback, maybe defensive, maybe proud; it was hard to tell--at the mention of his "things." "I HAVE TREASURES!" he replied.

At full volume, of course.

Flameglow eyes searched Charon, as if looking for something, possibly worriedly. "YOU KNOW? LIKE GOLD! AND GEMS! AND CRYSTALS THAT SING!" He leaned back again, thinking. "...YOU DON'T?" he asked, and it was more curious than surprised--so far as he knew, he was the only one of his entire family to really hoard things at all.

"THEY ARE DYE," he said. "A THING IN ANOTHER CAVE PUT MAGIC IN IT. IT STAYS EVEN AFTER I SLEEP." He hesitated, for a moment; he couldn't remember the Gembound's name, or even a description beyond hazy memories of black-gray fur and stubby fingers. Oh, and a heavy brow with--yellow stone? He wasn't entirely sure. "SOME GEMBOUNDS, THEY HAVE A MAGIC TO PUT COLORS ON YOU." A clumsy explanation, but hopefully it would do.
