Things had changed, and Nemesis did not like it. The stillness of the air left her restless and agitated, ears twisting to try and hear the roar of wind. Every small noise, drip of water, clicking of rat claws, drove her closer and closer to the edge of insanity. She wanted to just run away, but there was no where to run. She seemed to only find peace with Maggs, but still felt uncomfortable hovering beside her for too long. Last thing she wanted was to make the princess feel like she was weak and needed protecting... The dog was strong on her own accounts, and had gone... Half a cycle, was it? Without her.
She shook her hide as if to kick off flies that were bothering her and stomped at the earth. There was an urge to charge and race the wind, but the air was still and flat. Occasionally there was a brief rush of wind, but they died as fast as they came. She wanted things to go back to the way they used to be, but ever since that day everyone invaded her home, there was no turning back.
Which meant that now, Nemesis was left with only aggravation and an overwhelming urge to protect her home. Now that she had hatched again, this time with more heat under her skin and a tougher hide-- not to mention the obvious face lift-- she was ready to do any and everything she could to defend her home. She was expendable. For all she knew, a fatal blow would simply put her back in the crystal. The pain was worth the price of protecting those she loved.
A noise reached her ears and she lifted her head, snorting. Something had entered her home. In the silent aftermath of the twister falling low, she had become acutely aware of every noise. Painfully aware. Every sound drove her crazy, and with a lashing tail, she slowly trotted forward to find out who had entered her domain. She wasn't a warmonger, but she was ready to fight anyone who didn't carry her password.
"Fin-ish! Ori-- Gin-ae Pend-ee!" She roared, fumbling over the foreign words on her tongue, sweeping her array of horns through the air as she tried to find the source of the sound.

“ i'd never been here before. but with the growing of my limbs and expanse of my paws, i felt as though i was old enough to wander further than eridanus for once. i was taken aback when the sight of the monstrous being was rampaging about. she was a warmonger on the loose, ready to take anything asunder she could get her..paws? hooves? on. i had no idea what she was. i approached with major caution, careful to avoid the center. i embarked the large beast from the diagonal rear end, holding a posture of maturity all the while stifling the aloof aura i seemed to give off from time to time.
"pardon me,"
my voice was trying to find it's way. from childish to transition to mature. so it was an awkward tone, a teenage tone, but the beckoning would be followed up in case i was shoved off without a chance to finish my sentence.
"i was looking for someone, might i ask if you've seen him?"
i finished off with a small smile, jaded lenses observing the hulking beast as my mood remained somewhat stable. my tufted tassel gave a flick of anticipation before slowly flickering back and forth, trying to remain as calm and as neutral as i possibly could. but the searing hot rage radiated from the herculean beast.

Nemesis' feet drew to a stop as the voice caught her ears. She swung her head the opposite way, to face the feline that had approached on her flank, and slowly rounded to face him. She held her head high, though she did not think herself mighty-- it was a show of incredibly temporary peace. You did not want a rhino to lower its head towards yours.
Before her was a lion, though he held more hair than the first lion she had ever met. Her tail lashed with the childhood memory, and she snorted. "Many trespassers step into my home," she declared with a sharp sneer. She did not like the look of this boy in her home, nor did she trust him.
"Describe 'em. Folks don't tend to hand out their names when they're breaking the law of the land," she suggested, the gem that nested between her three horns taking on a soft, orange glow. She made no effort to hide the fact that she did not want him there-- but if he knew a member of the Merrymen, she would grudgingly escort him if need be.

“ oh no, what had i done now. who was this that i'd crept up on that when it turned, my heart sank into my stomach and wanted to fall out my ass. my eyes widened in fear as i stared at the monstrous beast who was easily three times my size. she had three horns, and her gem was huge, and it lightly glowed as she turned the burning rage upon me. the animosity was clear, and i wanted to turn tail and sprint. however, i would ask what i needed to of the warmonger before i am to disappear from her home.
"oh, i'm terribly sorry! i didn't mean to intrude, i had no idea this was anyone's home. you see, i've never been this far into the cave before."
i scrambled to explain myself, though none of it was excuses nor were they lies. i kept the smile, although however worried i was, i wanted to make it clear that i was not here to take her home, or intrude, or trespass.
"he's a black leopard, with an orange gem that looks like two horns atop his skull. he goes by the name of cancer. he's my adoptive father, and i've seemed to have misplaced him."
a soft chortle escaped nervously as i laughed at my own jest, trying my damndest to lighten the mood even if but a fraction.

The lion was a coward. She could sense it in him, could see the fear in his eyes and in the way his breath raced down the floor. He reminded her so strongly of Makyna, the innocent, pure little queen who thought she could just prance around other people's homes. She held down on her temper, trying not to let it show. Her tail gave her away with its violent lashing.
Her silence grew into a hot rumble of burning blood in her veins as Niru explained his friend. The memories washed over her-- the deer, the white dragon, and the black cat, all disturbing her home. She remembered the painful, ear splitting pop of molten light that burned through her world and sent Raheerah screeching. Red filled her vision like the flames that engulfed Monoceros only half a cycle ago. To many, they had been days away.
For Nemesis, it had been only yesterday.
That awful black cat had come to her home and tore apart everything. Niru thought she was a warmonger? His father had started the whole mess! It was his fault that she had nearly died, nearly abandoned her whole home and nearly left her Princess all alone. It was the reason she was no longer a true rhino-- something that was her secret shame.
She lowered her head, eyes narrowed. "Your father is a horrible person," she told him calmly, surprisingly cold for the beast of fire. "He awoke the Dragon, my family, that consumes the cave in Fire in his rage, and chased him out. He turned the Dragon against me. Because of your father--" She tensed, just for a moment, and then lunged.

I listened as she spoke. But anger boiled within my own soul as she insulted my father. I knew for a fact he wasn't a terrible person, for he'd shown me mercy. Saved my life. Adopted me when he didn't have to, and before I could return verbal fire the monstrous being came rushing at me. I let a vicious snarl rip, juvenile bridgework disclosed. She came like a freight train, but those horns would impale me and kill me. I had to use mu agility against her, had to use my smaller size in order to either win or escape. But not after I get a few hits in. How dare she insult my father.
Small limbs sprang upward, attempting to sidestep out of the mongrel's charge, all the while a paw lashed out, claws elongated hoping to smack the side of her face as she came toward me. I needed to time this perfectly if. Were to be successful, and if not, well, cancer would come back to finish them all off for killing his lion cub. A roar slithered from widely opened jowls.
But all was futile, I was unable to get out of her way in time and the ejected paw was smashed into, quickly followed by my entire body. The collision was intense, and I was certain something had broken with the sharp snapping noise which echoed soon after her attack. I was thrust to the side, hitting the rock flooring with a sickening thud, and I struggled to stand up as well as catch my breath, jaded lenses remaining upon the monster as they no longer burned with fear, but rage.

A few puncture marks pocketed the rhinoceros' nose, but she had taken down the lion in one swift charge. This new body of hers was stronger, more firmly compact. It made her feel brave.
A rush of adrenaline sped through her veins as she remembered the violent screams and roar of the fire. This lion had no idea what it was like, to live in a home that was constantly under attack by other groups and monsters and hordes of gembounds. He probably lived comfortably, scrapping by on scraps of cave rat in quiet tunnels.
She hated him.
Summoning her magic into her toes, she strode over to him. Her intention? To step on his frail body and burn him. Brand him. As a sinner, trespasser, as someone who associated with a murderer, a gembound only in this world to harm. She hated them all-- any who didn't associate with her family. They didn't deserve anything but hate from her.
And so, she tried to light her massive foot on fire and shove it into Niru to pin him down and burn him. During it all, she was silent, the smell of burning flesh as the magic tried to come forth from her skin. The only sound was their breaths and the sizzling of flames.

She summoned her magic, and it was clear hers was fire based. My eyes widened as I struggled, scrambled to get away from her, to make sure I wasn't roasted alive. As I scrambled from the warmonger, I jetted a few yards away from her before whirling back around to face her. I snarled a mighty growl, showing my teeth even more so as each hair seemed to stand on end. This monstrous beast had to have a weakness somewhere, but in all honesty she was like a battling ram. The powerhouse wanted to use magic, however I was convinced my own would do nothing in comparison to her flames. So I pushed that thought aside while I took this moment to spew a few hurtful words.
"my father is not a bad person, perhaps you should have been more wise!"
I growled the words, sincerely enraged by her audacious claims against him. I then rushed at the monstrous hag, leaping midstride and hoping to land upon her back. But my stride was not enough for her height, so I landed beside the beast, unsure what my next move should be. I then sprinted away, returning to her forefront at a decent distance, snarling at her.

The lion managed to wriggle out of her clutches, but the wild, hungry flames became the greedy passengers of her thundering feet. Her magic fueled them, her stomping sending and fueling oxygen into the fire's lungs. She turned, slow and clumsy, raking her horns through the air, but the lion slipped out of reach every time.
"Why do you think your father's named Cancer?!"
Her cold, dark eyes watched him retreat once more after his last jump failed. Last time a lion had managed to claw up on to her back, she had only one option: charge the twister. Her pulse quickened: that wouldn't be an option this time. She could only use her own strength. She had no back up plan, nothing to rely on.
"He's a disease, a plague! Next time you see him-- remember-- everyone would be better off without his disgusting filth poisoning our homes, you spoiled BRAT!"
With a roar, she charged him once more. Fire crackled and snapped, flames licking up her legs. Pain seared through her thick skin, the acidic smoke billowing out behind her.
This cub was a fool. She would show him what it meant to be wise. No one messed with the Merrymen.

“ there was absolutely no way i was spoiled. and absolutely no way my father was a tumor, just as his name was. i didn't believe it. he'd shown me such love, attention, allowing me to thrive whilst he basked. i would have it no other way. everyone made mistakes, surely this beastly thing wasn't perfect. i snarled again, brows knitting fiercely above jaded lenses as lips parted to disclose bridgework once more. when i'm older, this might be a menacing look to curdle the blood of my opponent. but as of right now, i was sure i looked like a juvenile throwing a tantrum. but i wasn't throwing a temper tantrum, no. i was defending the honor of my father, the one who raised me with integrity.
"i'd be dead if it wasn't for him!"
i shouted angrily, bellowing my rage as i then attempted to charge straight for her. i was being a fool, i knew it. she'd pummel me. i had to think strategically, but in this very moment anger held me captive. a learning lesson, as cancer would put it. but i couldn't help it. i just couldn't stand to hear anymore psycho bullshit from this monster. these claims she made, they weren't valid. in the least. i wouldn't ever believe her. it wasn't his fault she got turned into the monster she is now. she was just too angry that she wanted to throw the blame on someone else. such impudence, i hope my attach works just for the sake of hurting this thing. i wanted to draw blood.
so now, as i charged forth, with limbs advancing my adolescent frame faster and faster, i skidded to a halt just before her, both forelimbs lashed out at her nose, hoping to claw and scrape up, puncture the muzzle, hoping to make her bleed. to make her pay for what she's said, perhaps even done against my father. i wanted her regret, her hatred to drip in crimson rivers from her nose. and if all i had was to scratch up her nose - well then i'd utilize it. hind limbs acted as anchors as my tail lashed about appropriately for balance.
