Sprig had gained valuable knowledge from Naskital on how to make the food called 'candy canes', which started with harvesting some of this plant named peppermint. He had thought about it, and decided that it would be best to grow some of it in his garden so that he would have a steady supply. Orion had several of those plants scattered about, and so he harvested some of them, piled them up in his sled, and brought it back to Eridanus. The sled didn't do quite as well when not on snow. It would be important for him to later clear out some roads so it would be easier to transport plants or whatever else he may need to.

He removed a few sprigs of peppermint from the sled, and dug a whole in the ground, placing them inside before burying it. But it would take much too long to wait for it to grow. And would it even be able to grow in this environment? It had been harvested from Orion after all with a much different soil and weather. Perhaps a bit of magic would be able to speed it up.
Sprig tugged upon his magic, managing to grow a small peppermint sprout from what he had planted. But it was not large enough to harvest. Doing so at such an early stage would kill the plant. He would have to make it larger.

This was a spell he had not practiced much, so he was not sure if it would work. He closed his eyes, focusing on channeling the magic from the magnesite. His surroundings faded away as he concentrated upon the plant before him. There was a sudden surge, unusually powerful. He felt it flow from his forehead through his body, then out into the ground. The peppermint plant which had been only about the size of his paw before grew into a shrub. It wasn't fully mature, but it was enough that he could harvest it now.

Since the peppermint was now fully grown, he needed sugar for his next step. There weren't any plants he knew that could make pure sugar exactly, but fruits should suffice. Now that was the hard decision! What should he use? Sprig pondered this question, weighing the pros and cons before settling on peaches. That was a safe choice, as he used it for fruit rolls too. You could not go wrong with anything peach flavored. Unfortunately he didn't actually have any peaches grown in his garden so he would have to go look for some.
As he wandered around the area, Sprig eventually stumbled upon peaches. Well, at least they looked like peaches. In truth, they were a poisonous variety. But he didn't know that. He picked up a few that looked untouched and brought them back to his garden. Oh boy he was in for a treat. A very poisonous one.

The next part of the recipe shared similarities with the fruit rolls. He would need to find a way to heat up the ingredients before rolling them. The stone bowls for all his cooking projects were stacked in a neat pile. Sprig took one of them and squeezed the peaches, extracting the juice until the bowl was filled. Now he just had to find some rocks to strike together and create the sparks for the fire. This all would've been much easier if he had fire magic, which he didn't. It was lucky he knew how to make it this way.
Sprig harvested some of the peppermint leaves and added them into the bowl of peach juice, noticing that his breath smelled... fresher. He didn't know that peppermint had such a strong scent or effect. The bowl was placed atop a pile of kindling. Balancing a rock between his paws, he picked up a second rock to strike it against it.
It took a few attempts, but on the tenth strike the sparks caught onto the wood, starting a small fire.

Now that the fire was going, he waited patiently for the peppermint and sugar to mix together nicely. A stick was used to stir the orange liquid which... wasn't solidifying. What was going wrong? He had done all the steps correctly! What he didn't know was that purer sugar had to be used, and using the juice directly would not work. Sprig waited for a while, continuing to stir it which had worked to harden the fruit rolls. It just simply wasn't going right at all! He pondered over this for a while, before deciding that he could just make fruit rolls. Candy canes were a bit hard of a recipe it seemed, and he hadn't expected to get it right on the first try. But still, it was a bit disappointing. Taking a slab of rock which functioned as a plate, he poured the liquid onto it and waited for it to harden a bit before he rolled it.

After it was cooled enough, he rolled it up. The minty smell mixed in with the main scent of the peaches was unique, and although it wasn't the candy canes he had tried the make, the fruit rolls would still be delicious. It was unfortunate then that it was poisoned.
As he ate the fruit rolls, he did notice the peaches tasted a bit different than usual but decided it was just the peppermint changing the taste. It was after he was done eating it all that Sprig felt... a bit unwell. But not in a really bad way? He suddenly started to feel incredibly drowsy despite feeling energetic just a few moments ago. He should go to sleep. That was when he found he could not walk straight at all. And why did everything look so weird? Sprig felt relaxed, carefree, in a state of mind where both everything yet nothing at all made sense.

Suddenly he was hit with a lot of energy. A state of energy where he suddenly got the feeling that he could do anything. Like make more fruit rolls. Oh no, this was not going to turn out well. His coordination was at an all time low as he crushed the peaches making a huge mess (and several chunks still remained) and nearly tore the peppermint bush out of the ground collecting a few leaves. Then as he struck the fire he almost burnt himself. The bowl was on the verge of spilling as he stirred it then poured half the liquid onto the ground when aiming for the rock. While waiting for it to cool he had an entire conversation with an insect he found on a tree.

When the rolls were cooled, he rolled them up and prepared to eat them. Then he felt all his energy crash and suddenly he was hit with how darn tired he was. All he wanted was to sleep, he no longer cared about the fruit rolls he had just made, there was nothing more he wanted at the moment than to just crash. Sprig had only stumbled a few steps towards the sleeping area before he blacked out. The next day he would wake up with a hangover and regret everything.
