SO I was talking in the cbox earlier (like 10 minutes ago) about writing styles and how I hate most of my posts and just generally dislike what happens when I try to write thinggggs. I wanna try improving but at this point I'm not sure how or what to do. I'd say give me some constructive criticism but I don't think my fragile little brain can handle all you great writers ragging on the shit I know is shit. hahahaha.

Instead, I have a question. Where do you draw inspiration from in terms of writing style? Obviously reading helps. But are there certain authors you admire and reflect in your work? Is there a good blog for styles somewhere out there? Formulas? Magic pills!?

hello.

I'm fairly sure my style is very, very influenced by Clive Barker's writing. :^o I grew up reading his Abarat series, so. There also might be some Chris d'Lacey in there! But I have yet to find a single "writing guide" or tutorial to be helpful. @ <@; Any improvements to my writing over the years has been pure experience, lmao. My older writing is... painful, to say the least!

I'll admit im a bit of a lazy writer when it comes to roleplay posts haha. I tend to just write down a steady stream of consciousness. However, as a general rule of writing, i try to convey things from the perspective of my characters as best I can. Don't write from the perspective of the narrator, write from the character. That is to say, when you're writing third person - write what the character would be experiencing at that time.

Never write definitively if you're talking about something that isn't from your character's perspective - don't say "Makyna was happy". Say "Leon could see the smile on Makyna's face and the tone of her voice lit up the room."

I have more tips but i'm at work right now. I'll post more later!

My writing style is entirely based on who I am roleplaying with, or my current msue/mood. Simply put, it is very spastic. I sometimes write with simple details and other times I get very extreme. ( I was roleplaying on FeralHeart earlier today using only MEDICAL terms for describing our characters )

I just like to experiment and try new things in writing and see what happens! ( I also like to change tables a lot, hehe. )

Please tag me when it is my turn in threads!

If I have not replied to a thread in a week, feel free to skip me!

If you'd like me to use a different table in a thread
just let me know!
