Trial of Hydra - Reclamation

The next Trial of Hydra--titled Reclamation--will occur in August! Signups will begin in two weeks' time. For now, we're giving information here so players can prepare their chosen characters--for example, getting in any last-minute rolls for progression and the like!

The Basics!

Never done a Trial of Hydra before? It's a potentially deadly test of skill, wit and luck where the survivors take all (including spells, magicka and mutations) and the losers get death--even their stones will be lost. (The losers' players, however, can still claim certain participation rewards!) Players can each enter up to three characters in the Trial; it's a good way of either killing off, or giving development to, less-used characters! Unfortunately, Order characters are unlikely to be welcomed to the Trial...

Rolling

The system may be tweaked before the Trial, but right now it is as follows: there are one to two rolls per round, generally open to any roll type (Magic, Physical or Other). Succeeding Roll #1 allows the Gembound to choose whether to move ahead to a better trial position, or stay with the group. Roll #2 allows Gembounds to recover from a failure on Roll #1, or if they succeeded, to instead attempt to either sabotage someone of their choice, or aid someone who failed Roll #1, only if these characters share their trial position. Failing both rolls, and not being aided, results in character death. Stones are unrecoverable.

Posting Rounds

Given the poll results for round length, each round will be four days long--that means you'll have four days to make your posts. (Missing a posting round will have IC consequences; missing two when not on absence will likely result in character death.)

Theme

This Trial of Hydra is intended by certain powers-that-be to grant Hydra a more liveable state between trials--no longer requiring danger rolls to post in (see details below). Thematically it will therefore be a return to the original Trial of Hydra. While I won't lay out all the juicy details here, it will follow much the same layout as the original, requiring traversing--and surviving--each section of the desert, while accomplishing certain tasks to modify its danger levels. Threats will, as in the very first Trial, mostly consist of terrain hazards and the deadly Lessers: extreme heat, Sand Worms, toxic gas, and more.

Rewards

All Survivors will receive:

1. Again a throwback/homage to the original, characters will be able to each choose two mutation features:
A. Any single feature from a Hydra lesser
plus
B. Any single feature from any other Hydra Trialgoer (character in the trial)

All Participants (alive or dead) will receive:

1. 300 Magicka
2. Magicka claim at the end of the thread, for all participating characters (not just one!)

After a tiebreaker near thread's end, characters will also find themselves in either First, Second, Third or other Place! First through Third will receive additional awards--TBD, as yet, but including spells and magicka!

Subsequent to this Trial, Hydra will function as follows:
- Dangerous Lessers Familiar Forged here will still not thrive elsewhere.
- Players can roleplay in Hydra without requiring danger rolls. (Characters who have already survived a regular Hydra thread prior to this Trial will receive a legacy achievement!)
- The cave should still be taken IC as harsh and unforgiving, but less deadly than before.
- Future Trials will still be deadly, and the cave will become extremely dangerous for the duration of the trial (characters still won't need to roll unless they enter the area around an ongoing Trial, whether ICly on purpose or by accident)

Watch out for that sign-up thread--and get training!
