Since his awakening, the capybara didn't let the child out of her sight. He was to young to understand the dangers of the world he was born into, so much hate and lies. Sometimes she felt like she was drowning her and the last visit from the Lord? Chills crawled down her spine. Now that she knew the truth about him, she couldn't un-see. He wasn't to be trusted and the child had the makings of being just as bad. But what was important now was to focus on her own son.
Coming back from getting some food, she entered the shelter that was her home. "Honey, I'm back . . ." Dropping down the pile of greens she collected that grew around the cave; including grasses, leaves and roots. Now that he was here, she found a new found strength. Like a fire was lit under her and now she had the urge to keep herself stronger and ready her son to run away from this place. It was the only way for him to be safe.
"What have you been doing when I was out?" Cooing softly as she laid down on the dried grass that was where she slept at night. Has her child found his name? It took her some time herself and she felt it should be up him to name himself.

Yarrow was lying there on the dried grass, rolled tight into a little ball, his back to the opening of the tiny little den, shuddering and crying softly to himself. The fight with Kingsfoil went so badly-! King just berrated him and looked down on him and sneered and called him useless and Yarrow couldn't say anything because he was right. He couldn't do anything against his strong and tall brother because he was a worthless little worm worthy of being kicked out and stripped of any family ties. He deserved it- he couldn't do anything to help anyone. He could only cry.
And when his mother came in and asked how his day was, he turned to her slightly, stiffly, his back disallowing him fluid movement, his eyes red and full of tears.
"M-mama...." He sniffled, then he looked away. "Am I....worthless?"

As she turned to face her child, the first thing she saw her tears. No no no. What went wrong! "Am I....worthless?" Quickly, the thin rodent rushed over to the young one and knelt down next to him, pressing her cheek against his own. "No, you are not! You are so much and none of it is worthless!" Her words stuttered in the end, trying to keep herself from crying along side her son. No, she had to be strong for him.
"Why would you say such a thing?" Turning to meet him eye to eye now, her deep brown gaze locked onto those beautiful blues. "Please, tell me."

He sniffled more and scrunched up his eyes, trying to keep from crying, and failing. His eyes felt hot under his eyelids, and he felt so shameful and terrible, making his mother feel so horrible. He was awful, an awful child.
"...K-king told me I was useless...I c-can't fight, I can't protect anything...." He hiccupped, feeling his little chest twist. "Father ha-hates me, King hates me..."
"He- said I sh-should leave a-and stop being a wa-aste of space," He said haltingly, sobbing, his tears breaking up his words, and he leaned into his mother's touch, his chest wracking with sobs.

The tears in her eyes welded up, just about to fall down her cheeks. Why was the white son so cruel already? Then again, he was also the son of the white doe. Her words cut deep so easily. "Now you listen to me, you are important and you shouldn't listen to what King or the Lord says. You understand?" Scooting over to him and planting a kiss on top of his head between those little nubs. "Fighting isn't everything, you understand. You can be so much more and I know you will."
Smiling to him, "I believe in you . . . can you keep a secret for mama?" Lowering her head to meet him eye to eye now. "We will be leaving soon, when the time is right, to a place where you don't have to worry about King or his father." Trying to sound hopeful; knowing this had to be done. Yarrow couldn't grow up here, he would wilt.

He listened to her and he nodded, unable to speak with his throat so clogged up with tears. He turned over slowly, his back so stiff, and he reached out for her to cling to her fur. Mama was just so nice and caring and he loved her with all his heart. He knew she would love him, even if no one else would.
But that was the thing, wasn't it? No one else loved him because he was useless, and he couldn't do anything right. He couldn't run, he wasn't agile, not with his back so stiff, he wasn't big and tough. He was a target. He couldn't protect anyone, not even his Mama.
And the worst part was that he didn't even want to. He didn't want to fight, he didn't want to hurt other people, he just wanted to be safe and warm and at home. He wanted to keep thinking about that idea he had with King, and figure it out.
And then Mama was telling him a secret, and his little ears perked, and he looked up at her, startled. A secret? They were- gonna leave soon? Where he wouldn't be sneered on?
"R-really?" He asked, daring to feel hope. "W-we can just...leave?"
Maybe..where they went next...he could have his own little den, where no big tall creatures could get to, where he could think. He would really like to find a place like that.

Pressing her nose to his own, smiling. "Yes, yes Yarrow. We can, but you have to keep that a secret for me." Her gaze lingered on his own as she laid down next to him. "Promise?" For keeping it secret was the key, for if the Lord Hasira knew or even suspected, he would never let her leave this place. Who knew what he would do to keep her from taking . . . his son away from here.
Pausing to glance outside. "Would you like to stretch your legs?" Maybe walk around for a little bit? It's been a while since she even explored this place.

He sniffed and wiped at his face. "I promise, Mama, I promise." He said quietly, his head nestling into her soft fur. It was an easy promise to keep - who would he tell?
And she was offering for them to stretch their legs, and he nodded. Maybe she would show him around this place? The only things he'd seen was what he'd seen with King, and that was...a bad memory he didn't want to recall. He at least wanted some good memories about this place, with its shining stars up above.
so they both made their way out of the den, and he kept close to her, his steps tentative and careful because of his sensitive palms. He picked his way very neatly, his gaze down on the ground, and he said softly, "...Is this other place...nice? What is it like, Mama, the place we would go?"

As the promise was made, she smiled. It was key for this to be a secret, but she trusted little Yarrow. And she was doing this for him, she didn't even have the strength to go alone; she needed to take him with her so he would be safe as well. As they left the small shelter she called her home, the rodent walked down the small path, gazing down to the little one as he kept up. His question caught her ears and it was a good question. Let's see . . it's been so long.
Only pausing in a step for a moment, collecting her thoughts. "Well . . . there are waterfalls." Thinking back, the memories were a little faded since so my cycles had passed by. "It was the place I woke up, like you woke up here." Leaning down to smile at him, it felt good to smile so much again. "A little wet, but there are many gems that live there. I even know a few of them . . back when I was young like you." She thought about them a little bit, since the two she knew did indeed live there. Leon and Makyna. Both had gotten so big, towering over the rodent; but after realizing the things that were told to her were lies . . . both of them must be good people. Right?
"And it's not as open like it is here, with this ceiling that goes on forever; it's more like a room filled with paths and rooms inside." Maybe he might like that better then this place? Carrie would hope.

He tried to paint the image in his mind as she described it - the place with waterfalls and twisting paths and rooms and many kind gems, unlike his family. It was an idyllic scene, and he leaned on his mama as he walked, smiling to himself. The gems there would be different, they would be kind like his mama because his mama was born there. It made perfect sense to him.
"Can we....go there?" He said quietly. "I mean...now? F-father and King aren't here..."
