Perhaps he could dislodge them from the ground with smaller growths of crystal? Yet, he wondered how that would work. He could summon gemstones beneath them, but would his regular magic be strong enough to dislodge the castings of a mad man?
He felt a pang of guilt creep through his chest. He'd been so... lost. So distraught. So destroyed. And yet... and yet it had served a purpose. In his grief, he had learned a valuable lesson. He'd learned mercy. He'd given Kerberos a second chance and so far, it had paid off. The hound was back to guarding the cave and there was only minimal scarring on the dog's middle head.
But still, he'd lost his Bevy bird...
...but he'd try again anyway. He pressed his paws firmly on the ground and focused his magic. With the glow returning across his skin and horns, behind that empty eye socket, the ground cracked beneath his paws. New lines of orange and red quartz shot from where he stood in a web pattern, lacing around the pillar, but that was all, and he felt the strain and sat, releasing the cast as quickly as he'd summoned it.
Well, that didn't work. Now what?
