Magicka Competition

Rules:

For this competition you must wow the judges by a creative use of magicka.

Judges will deliberate to designate which character's use of magicka is the most creative, thought out, and impressive of the competitors.

You can use anything in the environment to aid with your spells.

You have three posts (or if you want to use less that is fine) to wow the judges and audience with magicka use, after which the next competitor will go until all have had a chance to perform.

Winners will be picked based on IC performance as well as the successful of the rolls.

If a competitor is called and they don't respond within three days on the fourth day they will forfeit and the competition will move on without them.

Please allow a judge to post to this thread first to begin the event! Then, the first gembound will be called to make their beginning posts.

As with the other event threads spectators are allowed and there will be no set posting order for spectators.

Everything seemed to be going smoothly, at least that's what he'd assumed. Bartleby wasn't exactly experience in, well, anything at all. Now he was a judge for the "First Annual Olympics", his qualifications included that he knew exactly 33.33% of what that name meant. If he had been more experienced, and several inches larger, he might have considered participating in any of this trials. Instead he was probably going to end up squeaking himself hoarse to be heard.

"Welcome to the First Annual Olympics! I don't know what that means either, but I know that you should try hard to win it! " He hoped to the rocks up high that people could hear him squeaking. "The rules for this challenge are easy! Just be creative, or impressive, or both! You can use anything in the area to help with your spells, but please remember this is not a fight, and don't directly try to harm your cocompetitors okay? The order is as follows, Thanatos, Carni, Imperia, Zevruu, Tukluk, and Albeon. I have no idea who any of you are!"

Although he was excited to participate in the Olympics, whatever thhey were, he was nervous for the magicka competition. Being a newborn, the young foal barely had any spells under his belt. Less than a cycle old, there would certainly be others with more impressive spells than he. He swallowed hard, standing amongst the other gembounds entering this contest.

When his name was called first, he froze for a moment. He had to go first? He wasn't expecting that! Swallowing hard again, he stepped up and away from the group. With his magicka being of the earth variety, he didn't want to hurt anyone. Making sure he had room, he looked around the floor for ideas. Had he known themis was coming, he could have something in mind! Oh well, he had to work with what he had. Pawing at a rock nearest him, he took a deep breath and closed his eyes as he began to concentrate...

He felt his magicka come forth and felt the stone beneath his hoof change over a timespan of a few seconds. It changed into a chunk of raw obsidian, shiny and black, just like his stone but much larger.

Thanatos opened his eyes and they widened when he saw the chunk of black gemstone he created beneath his hoof. He'd never done that before! His heart raced with stage fright and the excitement of learning a new spell somehow, but he couldn't stop now and think about it. Now, it was time for his next spell to make this a little more of a show and less of a nap session.

Now he wanted to smash the stone in to pieces, hoping he could manage it with a spell. He couldn't smash it on his own, so if this didn't work, he'd be up shit creek without a paddle. Staring hard at the stone, it's like he hoped by osmosis the stone would shatter into a million tiny pieces... But could it?

He was holding his breath until the stone shattered, though it took longer for it to than it took to shape the rock into the obsidian. He could only hope then that his final spell would bring this all to a close and at least give him some chance at winning this.

Finally, this was his last shot to wow the judges. He was familiar with the spell he intended to use now, he just hoped it worked better than the last two. He couldn't complain though, since the last two attempts hadn't failed. Either way, this was the finale and he had to stay strong.

His intentions were to shake the earth like he had when he hatched and send the pieces of the stone he shattered flying upwards to make a rain of obsidian shards. Rearing up, he hoped to mimic what he had done the last two times he used this spell.

As his hooves hit the earth, the familiar shaking of the earth began with contact and sent the shards flying upwards a good three feet and out towards the judges and other competitors to rain down on them with a nice glittery effect.

"And that was Thanatos everyone! That performance really behooved some more practice." Normally this would be were a speaker paused for the chuckles in the audience but Bartleby immediately went into full squeaky toy mode with his own laughter. "Get it, behooved? Because.. he's a... Never mind. Well, what a tough act to follow right?" Hopefully the next competitors successes would be less ambiguous.

This was silly. Goodness, this was very silly. Fun, though!

Terrifying and a horrible waste of magicka, in his opinion, but fun!

Carni sat, dignified despite his nerves, off to the side as the tiny bat announced the event. Comically, he might add, with how little the tiny guy seemed invested in his task. First up, though, was Thanatos- and as the (huge) colt stepped up to perform, Carni settled in to watch with rapt attention.

He watched as the black horse turned a chunk of rock into obsidian, shiny and smooth and black, and mildly impressive. The obsidian shattered from the ground moments later and flew up into a glittery stone rain. Cringing, Carni lifted his wings to shelter as a few pieces rained down around him. And that was that.

His turn.

As the tiny bat made a half-hearted attempt at calling around the next round, the Bone King leapt from his perch and trotted into the center of the crowd, looking pretty and clean and confident. He was young, and less trained than he'd liked to be for such an occasion, but he knew plenty of different spells. Time to put some to good use.

He stopped and stood still for a moment, wings arched over his back in a fancy display as he willed his magicka forward, stone lighting up with the charging magic...

...and with a subtle hum of energy, a breeze kicked up in a spiral around him, sending the previous competitor's obsidian dust back into the air in swirls of glittery black. His wings parted and spread slowly with the effect, and he let the spell fade as most of the dust reached high above their heads. As the wind died, the glitter rained down again- but his stone was already buzzing with the start of his next spell.

His focus shifted from the winds to the water running nearby. This was a harder spell. One less practiced, and he hoped to attempt something entirely new with it. If he could just focus...

...but just as he found his hold on the water, the strain became too much. With a gasp, he released the spell, sending only a spray of water from the river in his direction as what he'd been holding up came crashing down prematurely. It sprayed his fur and feathers and he stiffened uncomfortably at the sudden cold.

But he wasn't done. Despite the ringing in his ears from the failed spell, he had one last trick up his sleeve- and that hadn't been a complete failure. He could work with this. He just had to... improvise.

And improvise he would. If he couldn't dazzle the crowd anymore, then he'd have to give them at least something to remember him by. The cat shook the water from his wings with a delicate flutter of feathers, then stood on his hind legs with those wings spread wide and tail flared for balance.

This time, if he could just get it right...

...his concentration paid off. With a clap of his wings, the winds picked up again, rushing over the river's surface and carrying the last of the spray with it, mixing droplets of sparkling water with the obsidian dust from before once more, but this time spiraling into eye-catching twisters as the gusting winds shifted and churned. A few moved to center around him and merged, breaking together with a snap like a whip and casting the carried water and obsidian dust into the air like a firework- the resulting mix raining down one final time, as Carni managed a quick and polite bow and all but fled from the center ring, back to his place on the sidelines- probably to nurse his aching head now that he'd spent all that energy.

Imperia waited rather impatiently for their turn. Their tail flicked as first Thanatos and then Carni went. Finally, as Carni finished his last spell and went back to his spot, it was their turn. They rose and walked over to the center, where the others had done their spell. They only had a vague idea of what they would do, but perhaps it would be enough. It had to be. Aaliyah was watching, and they had to impress her, to show what could be done with magic. And if they failed...They weren't sure what they'd do if any of their spells failed. Guess they'll just have to find out.

They decided to go with a simple spell first. Nothing too hard or fancy. Just let the others know what they could do. When they began to feel the familiar feeling of their paws burning, they let out a small sigh of relief. Their first spell hadn't failed. Heat began to emanate from their paws and nose, as well as other places. They moved their paws around, looking around for something to burn. A shard of the obsidian that Thanatos had caused caught their attention. They pressed their paw to it and watched as it turned near immediately into smoldering ash. They grinned.

"Listen to me."
