Obstacle Course

Rules:

In this competition you must race through Polaris and go over the selected course to reach the end!

Do not use magic or physical combat to trip up or otherwise impede your opponents, the judges will be watching closely and if they spy your character cheating you will be disqualified.

Characters will also be disqualified if they use magic to help them through the course! You may only use "other" roll attempts to get your through each leg of the race!

There will be five sections of the race! You must use your roll attempts to get through each one! To reach the next section you must roll a minimum of a barely successful attempt or you may not advance until your character posts again and does roll at least a barely successful.

Winners will be decided based on who gets through the course first! In the event of a tie (characters reaching the end at the same time) then whoever has rolled the highest number cumulatively will win.

Please allow a judge to post to this thread first to begin the event! Then, you all may have at it! But please, to make it fair, allow everyone entered in the competition to at least have a post once before you post again. If three days has passed and one of the other competitors has not responded to their leg of the race then you may post again on the fourth day.

As with the other event threads spectators are allowed and there will be no set posting order for spectators.

Faelan watched with barely suppressed excitement from where he sat in between the two other judges as the participants of the Obstacle Course arrived. He didn't recognize any of the creatures, but seeing as he'd only recently emerged from his chrysalis, that wasn't all that surprising. Not knowing any of them didn't stop him from being beyond thrilled to watch them compete though. His small, round ears strained forward to hear the sound of their arrival, and once he was sure that they were all here, he leaped to his feet. Practically skipping forward, the lion cub put a few tail lengths between him and the other judges before finally stopping to suck in a deep breath.

"Welcome to the Obstacle Course! In this event, you will race through a course across Polaris, with the first one to the end being the winner. You cannot use magic, or combat, against your opponents, and if you do, you will be disqualified. " The young Gembound spoke with his chest puffed out, and his head held high, pride in being apart of the judging evident in every inch of his posture. "The first part of the course is between here and the Spire, and you have to jump over the fences that stand in the way. No flying allowed! Next, you run around the Spire twice, and then head for the river. By the rivershore, there will be a pile of rocks and branches. You have to search through the pile for a rock with a red mark on it, there are as many rocks as there competitors, so no cheating by taking more than one! Once you have a marked rock, gather a stick or branch and head back to the Spire. Somewhere around the Spire, shove your stick or branch into the ground so that it sits upright. Then, with your rock still in your possession, make a dash back here to us to finish the race! "

Faelan stopped to take a breath, and exchange a look with each of the competitors before continuing. "We will be watching, so compete fairly." he stated seriously with a flick of his tail to indicate himself and the other judges. Then, a grin chased his momentary sternness away, and his eyes lit up once more. "Now...LET THE RACE BEGIN!"

Oh how he couldn't wait! He, alongside some other unimportant gembounds, were going to be running a race today, more specifically an obstacle course! Although he was new and young, his long legs were still able to carry the foal at high speeds. Probably not as fast as some others, but he was definitely fast.

Approaching the course, there was a lion cub that announced the rules once everyone arrived. The wayward foal lined up with the other competitors and eyed the course. The jumps were pretty high for his size, but he was a taller foal than others. Hopefully he could clear them with ease. He kicked up a little dirt with his hoof, digging somewhat of a hole as he readied himself to start.

Just a moment later, the gembounds were off, heading straight for the first obstacle and the many others that stood behind them. As he approached the first fence and leapt, he cleared it with ease! This was going to be so easy! Little hooves carried him to each obstacle fence and powered him over each fence with the same amount of effort as the first. Never did his hoof even graze the top of the three feet high fences, making all of this go to his head in meer seconds.

Kito pawed eagerly at the ground, excitement building up in his veins. The zebra foal could not wait to start! He wished he could take off right now, but this lion cub was taking forever to deliver his speech. An obstacle course, it seemed like great fun! The striped foal danced around on his hooves as he lined up with the other competitors. All this energy, he could barely contain it.

I hope I win!

Kito dug his hooves into ground as soon as soon as the lion cub's voice rang out to start the race. Kito flew towards his first obstacle, some fences lined up in his path. His heart pounded in his chest as he galloped nearer, braying triumphantly. I'm gonna clear it! He shout excitedly in his head. The foal leaped forward, tucking his front legs into his chest. He felt as if he was soaring, like a bird! Then suddenly, fate slipped the rug from underneath him. His chest smacked into the first fence, flipping him clumsily over. Kito bearly had to yelp in pain as his face hit the ground, his body crashing down on top of him. Embarrassment flared up in his chest. "STUPID DICE!" His screamed like a crazy horse. How dare it sabotage his chances at winning! Kito quickly fumbled to his hooves and started towards the next obstacle in a gallop. He had to catch up! He had to beat everyone!

Auditory hallucinations

Oh! This all was so exciting! Her first ever Olympics games! Whatever that was... Oh, it didn't matter! This was all such great fun! So many of her friends were here! The little filly lined up right next to Kito and gave him a great grin. She was about to say how exciting all of this was but a young lion cub began to speak so she figured it would be rude to whisper while he was talking so she pricked her ears in his direction and listened. So, she had to go through each obstacle in order? Easy peasy!

The cub called for them to begin and they were all off in a flash! The filly kept pace with everyone else, allowing her long legs to help her eat up the ground. Thanatos seemed to be doing really well as he pulled ahead and scaled the jumps easily. Well, she just had to work to catch up to him! The little filly came upon her first jump and launched herself from the ground, it was a close call but she just managed to get over the fence with her rear hooves knocking against the wood. Unharmed she continued on with the rest of the fences, scaling them in a similar fashion as she raced on towards the next part of the course.

The excitement is definitely there in Rinaotei although it was inwardly suppressed, she'll allow that excitement to amplify her energy alongside the assistance of Polaris' usual atmosphere. The young lion cub was really just making her raring to go through with this now, but she'll analyse her surroundings first... When the other contestants arrive, one thing she quickly took note of was the factor, that besides herself, the winged Gembound that looked like a hybrid, and the small one with the duck bill on their muzzle, the rest of the contestants were equines... Mm... That does make her wonder how this shall affect the challenge of it, well one thing they all had in common though was the factor that they're all quadrupeds. Some may think due to what kind of animal she is, that she really won't have that much of a chance against these kinds. Still while Rinaotei is lacking in size & weight for a wolf, she makes up in speed and agility as she has less physical baggage to deal with than the average wolf.

Vastly intrigued to how this turns out as she really must stick out like a sore thumb in comparison to all the others she prepares to get ready while the cub is making the speech... Swaying her tail side to side in controlled anticipation, she begins with pivoting her paws in place against the ground to keep them in a balance and avert tripping over one. She adds pressure to them, which allows them to dig at the ground and the crunch of gravel could be heard when she did so. Now just get ready...

Let's begin now...

Releasing all the power in her paws, she bolts off from the start when the cub finally yelled 'BEGIN'. Dashing straight for the hurdles ahead, the first target to complete. While all could be heard was the really loud pitter-patter from when her paws landed back onto the ground from unfolding them. The ground started to get a little steep as she went on further, which added some momentum to her speed. Leaping up the first few jumps she made were effortless. But her energy seemed to sky-rocket and since she's getting hasty already she makes a leap for a hurdle a bit too early. She managed to make that hurdle somewhat, but it was because she managed to momentarily land on top of the fence like it was a tree branch, which was a close call but sadly a jolt of shock went up her legs the moment her paw pads hit the surface of the old fence... Quickly by reflex from the discomfort she felt from that jolt, Rinaotei pushed off the fence and since her leap had just lost balance and the rhythm she was going for with her jumps her muzzle crashes face first into the next hurdle...

It's alright... Just don't lose your composure. Take note of that pitiful mess up... Thinking that and not really one to lose her temper in respond to bad situations she quickly picks herself back up and resume this first leg. Hm... May have to think through here to leap over that one now...

Remedy stood to the side with the other competitors, looking almost bored. She didn't feel overly ambitious about this event. It wasn't her strong suit and she didn't want to tire herself too much before her wrestling match. Still, she'd been bored in Eridanus. Cure was better than fine company, but their lives had stuttered to a dull crawl. The Olympics had been a welcome distraction, and she had every intention of sharing the play-by-play through the link.

As they lined up to begin, however, she realized her disadvantage. Many of these were better runners by build alone than her strange body was. She'd have to be clever as much as she was quick.

Very well, then.

Time to begin.

They were off and she darted towards the hurdles with confidence. She was a damned catbird for gosh sake, jumping was her specialty. She flung herself up at the first hurdle and...

...shrieked as her damned hind paws caught and sent her tumbling into the rest in a tangle of limbs. Smooth.

With a huff, she found her footing again and sprang after the group to catch up. So much for winning. Eh, not that she planned to anyway.

Destiny was so excited! There had never been a big event by her home before, and Destiny was eager to take part. There were so many gembounds here! So many friends to make! And so the blind little lady had wound up here, excitedly preparing for her turn, listening out for any sort of cue that she could go.

And then the footsteps started, she heard them thundering and felt the vibrations in the earth.

"We're off! G-good luck everyone!" she warbled excitedly, breaking into a waddle. She followed the others as best she could, but soon found that they thundered off into the distance ahead of her. Nerves made her chest fill with shivers but she was so excited! She could do this! She could make it to the end!

The little platypus was brought to an abrupt halt as she crashed into something, just as she felt like she was getting up to speed. Was this the first obstacle? Destiny reached up and patted it with her bill to try and determine the size and shape of it.

She could do this! The platypus took several deep breaths.

"Here I go!"

She flung herself forward against the hurdle. Well, that didn't work... She just ended up in the same position as before, sitting in front of a big, tall hurdle. Destiny wasn't really in this to win, but she at least wanted to get to the end. She threw herself at it again, and this time ended up slung over.... Something. Her flippers pitter-pattered against wood, but she didn't look like she was going anywhere anytime soon.

For now she might as well just dangle here and catch her breath.

After clearing the last of the hurdles the filly galloped straight towards the spire in a dead sprint. She couldn't see where the others were, no, she was focused completely on the large clue formation in front of her. After she reached it she managed to get into a rhythm of circling it. The foal didn't even stop or slow during the two laps, she was able to keep up her speed without even breaking a sweat!

With a joyous whinny the filly finished her second lap and went straight on towards the next part of the course!

This is a bit of a problem... The amount of small space in between the two hurdles is going to make picking her speed back up again a hard one to accomplish. ...Wonderful. And she's falling behind. Moving back up with as much distance as she can muster in between herself and the next hurdle, until her rear was pressed against the previous hurdle. This is the best amount of distance she can do right now really, readying again to make the jump she tries to get into a sprint to increase how high the jump will be from her speed and now Rina makes her jump over this next hurdle when reaching it.

Well... She does get the hurdle albeit she had to climb over manually since she landed on the fence again. At least she didn't crash again, but she really needs a quicker way to get over the hurdles it's a race not taking a shortcut on one of her adventures where she can do it at her own pace. No her pace needs to be fast or else she will lose. This isn't going to work this is getting nowhere... Keep your cool and think of a new method to pick things back up, just sprinting with these new limitations piling up isn't going to work...
