The cold, dirty waters surrounding the grand waterfall were lined with dust, stones, and silt; good cover for the small, silvery fish that darted in and out from within the murk, scales glinting in what low light broke the surface. They would flit through the clouds that surrounded them, chasing one another, utterly carefree, until a disturbance prompted them to return to their hiding places.

As what was happening now. In this case, the disturbance was a sudden movement from within the pond where the fish did play--a sure sign of a predator, from a fish's perspective. From a terrestrial perspective, however, it was plain to see what had caused the interruption: the shaking of a crystalline object, roundish and blue, resting quietly in the shallows. Slowly but surely it wiggled this way and that, stirring up the dust that had settled beneath the water. For a good while this was all that happened, as the thing seemed to struggle against an invisible force.

It was a gentle, chilly breeze that sped things along. As it snaked through the waterfall room, its presence seemed to make the gem-like object almost shiver, and after a few moments of rest in the cooled air, something burst forth from within. First a furry brown head, and soon two white paws and a mass of white fur. Two more snowy paws and a bushy tail quickly followed. The fox kit, before he even had the chance to open his eyes or adjust his ears, tumbled head-first into the cold water below.

Though the icy feeling on his new skin did not irk him--indeed, it felt quite pleasant--the rush of water into his nostrils and mouth prompted the kit to cough and sputter. His ears drowned in the noise of the waterfall around him, and upon finally opening his eyes he found he could discern nothing but inky darkness.

Dazed, the kit managed to steady himself and sit down with a clumsy splash, as he flicked his ears this was and that and sniffed the air for something he could not yet name: answers.

Pisces. A room she'd never heard her mother talk about and one that, because of it, she'd never gone to visit before. Once she stepped foot into the place it wasn't a surprise why her mom never bothered with talking of it. This place was awful! It was cold and wet! The little liogoose could feel something itching in her coat, a sort of crawling sensation all over her skin as she walked forward. Oh, All Mother, what was that? She rose up from her quadrupedal walk and began to scratch all over with her forepaws as the sensation gripped her. With a cry of utter discomfort she bolted forward, subconsciously heading straight towards the ponds near the fall.

Without a moment's hesitation she threw herself in, allowing the murky water to soak into her coat and give her relief. With a sigh of content she began to roll around soak herself all over with the water. Normally she wasn't a huge fan of water but this time she could get used to it. Finally she sat up and shook her head, scattering droplets and freeing up her eyes to see... and see she did. There before her was a ball of floof!

Serendipity's head tilted to the side as she eyed him. How had she not noticed him before? Well, possibly because she'd been distracted with that awful feeling in her coat but now she stared at him straight on with a crooked grin forming on her tiny muzzle. "Hey, there! How ya doin', Fuzzy?" She asked, trying to play off the fact that she'd dunked herself in the water in a rather undignified manner. Hopefully he wouldn't bring that up if she just acted like it hadn't happened.

Quickly she climbed out of the freezing pond and once on semi-dry land she shook out her pelt, scattering more droplets but freeing herself of the cooling water.

Chi-Square flinched as a cascade of water splashed him, throughly drenching his upper half. He blinked a few times and sniffed the air, confused as to who this new arrival could be. She was making rather distracting noises, in his opinion; that much was clear. He watched her silently as she heaved herself out of the water and shook herself dry. She spoke to him, her voice barely audible above the ever-present roar of the waterfall. He could tell she was being loud, though--so very loud! Deafeningly loud. So there was a well-formed observation about his new world: it was quite noisy.

Chi-Square stood up and shook his head, too, imitating his companion. Most of the water had been absorbed into his thick fur, but he managed to re-fluff himself up a bit, and stood to to exit the pond. The ground below him was damp, but seeing as how he was now thoroughly soaked, he didn't take much notice. This thing in front of him seemed so foreign; but then again, what did he know? He wasn't sure he wanted to engage with her, but without any other options, he managed to utter a reply.

"Who you?" the fox asked, staring at the creature with wide eyes but avoiding eye contact. "It wet," he commented quietly, more to himself than to her. "You wet."

The young fox stared at her then at length replied with a "Who you?" which showed his age. Not only was his voice cub-ish but it wasn't phrased very well. Now that she thought about it... Wasn't that a broken chrysalis behind him? The little liogoose peered around him and decided that, yes, that was a broken chrysalis. So this Must be a hatchling! Interesting.

The little liogoose put her paws on her tiny hips and stared up at him, trying to catch his eyes but found that they were awfully elusive. She had no protocol for this sort of thing but would try her best at talking to the fox. "Well, yeah, Fluffy. That's what happens when you fall in water! Ya get wet!" She said with a laugh before raising one paw and pointing to herself. "I'm Ser. Do you have a name? Besides, 'Fluffy'?" She wondered if she was going to fast. She had a feeling that the whole world must be a confusing thing to this little babe.

"Ser," Chi-Square repeated, trying out the word. This liogoose, full of peculiar first impressions, spoke enthusiastically, which both intrigued and intimidated Chi-Square. She was oddly in-your-face for someone so frail-looking; Chi-Square noticed her thin frame and wouldn't have expected her to be quite so overwhelming. Still, she didn't seem to be a threat. The fox twitched his ears and looked her up and down, before at last meeting her gaze. "Ser"...was that what all of her kind were called? Were "Ser"s common in this strange new place?

Then she asked for his name. Name. The word turned itself over in his mind. What was he called? It took him a few moments to transfer the answer from his brain to his mouth, but at last he spoke once more. "Chi," said the kit, the hardness of the sound striking the back of his throat like a hammer. It felt nice--natural, even. "...Square. Chi-Square." He turned away for a moment as if in thought. "That's name. Chi-Square." This was a satisfying reply and a suitable answer, he felt. Brief and informative.

The fox shook his tail, freeing a substantial amount of water from within his fur. Then he shook his head, like before, and blinked a few times. Ser was okay--she could have been mean--but he still felt wary. He might as well come out and ask her what her standing was the best and only way he knew how. "You safe?" The question wobbled on his tongue. "Where this?"

Serendipity nodded her head. "That's right!" She said encouragingly. Finally it seemed like he could meet her gaze. She grinned at him, one fang becoming visible as it poked out of her mouth with the action. The little fox when on further to explain that he was "Chi-Square"... What a weird name... She liked it! "Chi-Square, eh? That sounds even better than 'Fluffy'! Alrighty then, Chi-Fluff." It was the best of both names! "Nice t'meetcha!"

The fox continued to shake himself off, scattering water droplets which made the little liogoose take a few paces back from him but her smile still remained. Was she safe? What did he mean by that? Would she hurt him? Pfft, as if she could hurt anyone. She'd need bigger claws than what she had... or tools. The idea popped into her head from out of her back of her mind. The older part of her that seemed to know about things before she did promised something special if she looked for it... but she had to look. The youngster waved the thought away. Later she would go on an adventure and find what she needed to. "'A course I'm safe! One hundred and ten percent safe! What's better is, I know how to have fun! Lotsa it!" She assured him. "'An this is Pisces. It's not where I live but I was just out explorin', havin' fun, you know? Say, you like havin' fun, don't cha?" He probably didn't even know what "fun" was yet but she could help him learn... What was more... She would be closer to that "thing" that she couldn't get out of her mind. Not exactly a "family" but something... something that promised just a bit more.
