She tried not to let it on, but the darkness really was beginning to bother her. She couldn't walk more than a few steps without stumbling over her oversized bird-feet or bumping into some foreign object: she didn't even want to try flying in the air. What little she flew often ended up in failure, anyway. She didn't have the knowledge nor the right teacher for it.

Not being able to do much was, ultimately, boring. There was little to do with the lights on, and there was even less to do with them off. Her days were spent lazing around the base of the spire, basking in the dim blue glow that it offered - likely the only light that was left in the caves at all - sleeping and licking rocks, looking for moss to eat.

White had never had particularly good smelling. It meant when she couldn't see she was typically blinded on all sides. Only able to hear things made little difference: she didn't know how things-with-no-eyes did it. At least, she was sure things without eyes existed.

In short, the hybrid had had just about enough of this whole dreary blackness that bathed the caves. She had to do something about it. The what didn't immediately come to her, however. It took a good few moments of internally complaining and rolling around the ground until it came to her.

Specifically, it came to her when she had rolled onto her back, crushing one wing under her own weight while the other sprawled out aimlessly to her left, talons upright and comically swaying. White could make things glow. She could make light.

The realization threw the hybrid upright, onto all fours and she was looking around - though, she was unable to see. She knew what she had to do now, and how to do it. She began marching across Polaris, around the base of the spire, talons clacking noisily against the ground.

It wasn't long until she found it. A pebble. The caves were littered with them, of course, but this one, in particular, had caught White's attention. For starters, it was lodged in one of her hind talons and it was kind of hurting.

She turned and pressed her nose right up against it. She could see, albeit faintly, that it was dark and bumpy. Not the best, but it would do. She flicked an ear and shut her eyes, concentrating all of her efforts into her nose that pressed against the rock.

...but there was nothing.

White stood, ears flat against her skull and limbs stiff with concentration as she tried - and tried as she might - to make the little rock glow, but there was nothing. "Why aren't you working?!" the creature demanded of the inanimate object, but she received no reply.

With a scowl, White lifted her head again. A forepaw knocked the rock out of the way, closer towards the spire - likely where the rude little thing belonged - and sat back on her rump with a hollow thump. What was she to do now?

White looked down at herself - or at least, what little she could see. She supposed that trying to groom herself would be a good start, and she lifted a pearly white paw to begin quietly licking at the pawpad while she attempted to conjure a second plan.
