The space was growing tighter each and ever day that passed. Her outer shell was starting to pinch at her skin as she pushed and prodded against it. She knew it was time to get out, but her cage just wouldn't let her go. She shook and wobbled her body as much as the tiny space would allow her. The dome tumbled and rolled but refused to crack open. The neonate was growing impatient, and knew that if it stayed in the shell any longer something was sure to go wrong. With a head full of frustration, the creature inside the chrysalis leaned completely to one side. She could feel the shell rolling. Soon there was a loud crack and the gem broke away.

She shook her head and rolled onto her stomach. Her tail wagged slowly as she dug her paws into the dirt for the first time. The mist in the air consumed her body and made her dark fur damp in some areas. The German Shepherd pup attempted to push herself to her paws, but she failed, and with a loud "Oof!" she found herself back on her stomach. Inhaling deeply, she found herself climbing to her paws. And once again, she fell. What is going on? she pondered. What is my name? she added. The pup rolled to her other side and sniffed the air. It smelled like light rain; presumably because of the misty air.

The pup turned over and rested her head gently on a patch of moss. She inhaled deeply and exhaled slowly. Name, name, name she continuously pounded through her thoughts. She just wanted to know who she was. As a neonate she knew everything, but upon hatching it seemed as though everything escaped her head. The German Shepherd dragged her paws in an attempt to crawl towards a nearby object. She pulled herself forwards until she hit something hard and smooth. Presuming it was a rock, she turned so her side was gently touching the stone. She pushed herself up and leaned against the rock for support. Finally she was standing.

It was if the newfound strength in her legs brought forward something locked away in her head. "Xeo!" she shouted gleefully to herself. She wagged her tail in excitement, but instantly regretted the decision. The sudden movement caused her to stumble and lose her balance with the rock. In one fluid movement, she hit the ground with a loud thud. She dipped her head down and rested her chin on the grass. She sighed deeply and relaxed on the moist ground. "My name is Xeo," she added with a soft whisper.

Xeo pushed her body back up against the rock. She twisted her limbs as she made a slow ascent to her paws. Once standing, she flexed her toes and dug her small claws into the dirt. The grasses tickled at her pads and she relaxed her paws in response. I got this she thought. In one fluid motion, she made it to her paws. With patience she stood completely still for she feared that one small movement would throw her off balance again.

After a few minutes of silent standing, she decided to take a step. Xeo cautiously reached her front right paw outwards. She wobbled slightly and froze, but soon she regained her balance. Slowly her paw touched the soil, and she began wagging her tail. One small step after the other, she managed to start walking. Her tail wagged furiously for a few moments before she froze and sniffed the air. I wonder if anyone is near she thought. Xeo began to focus hard to use her red sense in attempt to find any nearby creatures.

Xeo's senses expanded far and wide, but she could not see a thing. No heartbeat was within her limited range, and so she sighed. She came out of the focus and stumbled to the ground. The magic had made her dizzy. It felt as though her head was spinning; so when she hit the ground for the third time it was a relief.

Xeo knew that she had to get out of here. Once again she stood, but this time with few problems. She stumbled once or twice, but her paws caught her. She knew that she was getting stronger. Each step she took was as difficult as the next. She had to step slowly and place her paw on the ground as gently as she could. If there was something hard or pointy, she would have to drag her paw along the soil until she found a location that had no other surfaces. Xeo sighed deeply as she slowly made her way towards a cave wall.

"This would have been much easier if someone were here to help me," she grumbled under her breath. Xeo was growing frustrated and angry. Not at herself like many would expect, but at the gembounds. She was beginning to blame them for her awful experience. This mindset was going to develop into a negative one, where she would eventually hate all who roamed the caves in which they lived.

Xeo soon crashed into a wall and groaned as she toppled over. She landed on the ground with a thud. "Why must this always happen," she growled.

Xeo dragged herself across the forest floor along the wall. She huffed out air with each drag and rested between every pull. She decided against standing again, because every time she seemed to fall over. The pup could hear nothing but her own thoughts and heartbeat. She thought it to be weird that she was the only one in this misty forest. "Perhaps there are other gembounds nearby," she said to herself. Stopping in her tracks, she shook her head violently. "Even if there were I doubt they would help me!" Xeo growled under her breath. She began moving again, and before long, she smashed into a large round stone.

Xeo shook her head and raised her front left paw to feel the rock. It was small and round enough to move, and so she attempted to give it a shot. With all her might, the pup smashed her shoulder into the rock in attempts to roll it out of her way.

It moved!

The pup began to crawl forward with a new found sense of determination. If she could move that stone, she could move anything! Xeo's tail wagged furiously as her tiny body dragged itself across the misty forest floor of Cetus. At this rate, she'd be out of here in no time.

Xeo had found herself near another large rock. She pushed her body up against it, and like every time before, she began to pull herself upwards. Slowly she dragged her body higher and higher up the stone until she was at her feet. Now was the moment of truth; would she be able to stand once again or would she fall back on her stomach? The pup inhaled slowly and gently pushed herself off the rock.

Finally!

Xeo was now standing and moving much faster than she had before. She remained somewhat leaned against the wall in order to move faster and maintain a balance. The pup was even stepping high enough off the ground to avoid any twigs or mosses that might grab at her paws. She was so busy focusing on her pace that she missed when the wall suddenly disappeared. Xeo came to a halt and managed to catch herself before falling. She turned to face the now missing stone and curiously began to step forwards. The air was dryer and sweet scents began to envelope her.

The world is changing.
