The sounds of flowing water filled the air as bright blue creature stood in the middle of a circle of stones placed on pedestals of sand. Though no stranger to this room of brilliant magical energy, this visit was a surprisingly rare one for the gryphon. His sparring sessions with the wolf had become a frequent thing though, and even if they had yet to show even a spark of magical ability he could not let himself fall behind. The power of pure physical ability, even in a creature smaller than himself, was nothing to scoff at.
He had mastered the art required to cycle through elements by brute force; from energy to light to fire to electricity. If he was to discover a way to utilize any others then surely he would have to go back to basics, to the very element he had been using since birth.
The gryphon closed his eyes and focused on the power in his gem, which began to glow a soft white as it was called into action. Both talons came to his chest held together as if in prayer as he moved seamlessly from primarily building energy to primarily shaping it. For this spell attempt he would try to perform a dispel, but rather than form the energy in a single talon he would try to distribute about half of it across his entire body, with the rest held stable between both talons. If he performed it just right he would probably be able to perform an omnidirectional dispel- as thuddy as his earliest attempts in life but without the blind spots that the spell usually carried with it.
With the relaxing drone of water in the background and the abundant magic drifting about in the air concentration was a simple matter. In no time the soft white light of energy magic had washed over him like a barely-visible angelic glow. The shaping was done, all that was left to do was to manifest.
In one fluid motion the standing gryphon swept his arms out to the side, splitting the central portion of the spell and releasing the rest of the energy all at once. Sand kicked up from all around him as pure kinetic force was expelled from his form. The rocks that had been set upon the carefully constructed pillars went flying in all directions, some bouncing off the steep shoreline and some sinking into the water.
Amras stood still for just a moment, digesting the success and making sure that nothing had gone wrong before letting out a caw of success. Wait until the next time Xireidi tried to attack him from the side!

Somehow the large chick had escaped from Eytan's company. He was running, full tilt. Those brawny legs he had been born with were more than adequate to get him going, and he stopped only when the dirt did; the water appeared suddenly, so suddenly that Morigarra had to grip the edge with his thick toes and swing his head back for balance. He fell backwards, plopping on his little tailbone, and was left staring wide-eyed and dumb at the world around him. It was only a moment before rocks and debris erupted from nearby - he let out a strangled noise of shock and, following instinct, lurched awkwardly to his feet. The chick stood as tall as he could and puffed up (as if the stones were an enemy and he, being big and strong and intimidating, could scare them away). When the dust settled he was stalking around with high steps, his head and neck up, and all his feathers dusted over.

His brief moment of victory finished Amras folded his wings and dropped to all four limbs, ready to look around the area and try to figure out if there had been any weaknesses in his execution he could work on. Had the wave been stronger on one side than the other? Were there any gaps that had formed? A quick look at the sand pattern would probably tell him quite a bit about the details of what had just happened.
Before he had too much of a chance to investigate though a bit of movement to the side caught his eye. At first he had thought it was a stone still rolling in the peripheral of his vision, but only a slight turn of the head later it became abundantly clear that his test site had not been as clear as he'd thought it had been!
A quick chirrup of surprise escaped the gryphon as he rushed over toward the obviously perturbed... was that a baby bird of some sort?
"Are you okay?" he inquired softly as he lowered his almost-lion sized head toward the ground.

The thing that came out of the drifting dust wasn't like Carni, or Uncle. Well, it was, sort of... But really not at all at the same time. The thing was feathery and it had a beak (does everything have a beak? he might've thought if he were older), but it walked the way he did - on two legs. It had other legs too though, and talons, and again Morigarra was left feeling like he was missing something important - like he wasn't finished yet.
But he didn't think long or hard on these things. They were so fleeting, he would've never remembered how heavily his jealousy sat within his little heart.
The bird spoke - like Eytan - which was familiar enough by now that Mori wasn't outright afraid. He couldn't mimic the speech yet, but he wasn't going to run from it. Rather he stood there with a frown on his face (he would've crossed his arms if he'd had any), and chirruped a few breathy notes, as if he were thinking.

The chick didn't respond to his question, but its expression showed greater recognition than Amras might have expected from a lesser gembound. Talons gripped the ground as he lowered his head further, looking as closely as he felt himself able to without freaking the child out. Its feathers had gotten a good dusting but there weren't in obvious signs of injury, at least not physically. Emotionally it seemed pretty obviously cross with him, and for good reason!
Amras concluded that he would have to be more careful next time. This chick was small but it still would have been visible had he more thoroughly scouted the area between each attempt. The damage had been done now and he'd left quite the impression. Perhaps he could do something nice to get back in its good graces?
Having an idea, the gryphon lay down fully on the ground, left talon resting flat and right arm resting on the elbow. A small show perhaps? Something simple and fleeting. The embedded quartz rod facing his audience glowed a soft white as before and he held two fingers to the middle if his forehead.
As always for this spell the white light began to change a few shades toward purple. He'd theorized that this was an indication that he was borrowing from another school of magic without fully utilizing it but hadn't had too much time to really investigate. For now though he had to really keep up focus or his little show of apology would backfire horribly.
Fish... they were near a river so fish were certainly present. Lots of little silvery fish flitting together in packs, some fish with funny faces and whiskers, some with glimmering scales. Focus on... the glimmery scale kind. What kind of personality would they have? Well, they were probably skittish, but seemed attracted to shiny things. Cautiously curious? Yes, that would be a good base trait to put on a scaly fish. Curious of moving things but quick to swim away.
With that mental image complete Amras drew the energy that had been cycling about his skull back out and held it in open palm, visible only as a faintly purple and almost inperceivable glow. Now to twist and shape and solidify before it was done. The color of the energy and his stone shifted a few shades toward yellow as the energy was twisted as though he were invoking the light element. Palm was held close to his face as slowly and carefully he finished shaping and began to manifest the spell.
The energy of the room they were in was threatening to overpower the shape that was forming, bloating it into what might have easily become a pure source of kinetic force like his earlier spell. Luckily they were only at the edges of the room rather than right next to the spire. Within the gryphon's hand an ethereal golden fish began to take form, swimming around the air like the atmosphere were made of water. It was quite a bit fatter than his mental image had been thanks to the room's interference, but as it swam away from the gryphon's hand and began to circle around the chick it seemed to have kept the cautious curiosity that had been programmed into it.

Before long the weird creature started doing things. The boy wasn't sure what to make of it; he stood there stiffly, and would've quirked an eyebrow had he any. Mori lifted one of his big feet in preparation for stepping back just as the creature began to generate... light. Or energy. Or something.
Mori's eyes went wide at first - with wonder more so than fear - and he was swept up with rapt attention. The energy pulsed and seemed to get stronger, and as the boy watched the strange beast held out one of its forelimbs, and the light sat there. It sat there, swirling and collecting, almost like water - and before Morigarra knew it, there were shapes forming. Real, tangible things - turning more solid and then floating in the palm. Mori didn't know what a fish was, or even what magic was, so all he did was stare with a tilt to his head every so often.
He'd once been compared to a pigeon in his mannerisms, and that wasn't far from the truth. He was transfixed upon the point of light held by Amras, not afraid of it but not entirely sure what to do about it, and merely watched.

"I'm sorry if I scared you with my spell earlier." Amras spoke softly, recognizing that the small bird might or might not understand his speech. Surely his tone would convey his intent though, right? "That was a big and loud spell, and I'm still learning how to do it. This spell is a lot smaller, less frightening."
His free talon reached over to pat the ghostly fish, stopping short of its body to give the impression that it actually had physical mass. The fish tolerated the gesture for a moment, swimming up and around to the back of his hand before it bolted away, still within arm’s reach but seemingly absentmindedly swimming between the two of them.
The gryphon chuckled a light and airy laugh, with twinges of a peeping sound at the end of each note. "My name is Amras, and I spend my time finding new ways like this to use magic. Do you have a name yet, little one?."

This blue thing was impressive. Morigarra felt a familiar sting settle in his chest as they spoke, though. It was the same feeling he had upon seeing dad's wings - a sharp, childish, ineffectual jealousy. Amras played with this ball of light and energy, petting it, letting it swim in his hand, and when it bolted for Morigarra the child honked and stepped back, unsure of what was happening and uncomfortable. But the fish seemed harmless.
Mori couldn't take his big eyes off of it, but he heard the blue thing talking some more - and he used a word Mori had heard before, too. Xerxes had asked the same question. This name thing seemed... important. Well, he might not have had pretty magic, a light fish pet, or freakin' wings, but Morigarra did have a name!
"Morigarra!" He announced, almost defiant in his manner. The first R rolled off his tongue easily but the second rolled, perhaps indicating he was still mastering the whole talking thing, which wasn't exactly wrong. The babe continued to watch the fish, fixated upon it.

((Sorry on the late and short reply, muse ran away for a bit on thread ^_^;))

Well, the young one could talk! Or at least it could understand him to some extent. It also seemed to have calmed down a little bit after that large scare, taking interest in the strange spell he had woven.
"It is good to meet you then, Morigarra." he spoke softly in response as the fish continued to dart around. "Are you interested in seeing more magic? I can find a safe place where you can watch from so it can't hurt you."
He'd never had an extended audience for his practice sessions before, but if this young one was going to be wandering around while he was throwing energy spells around he wouldn't want to accidentally hurt it.
The large gyphon extended a taloned hand, palm up, offering to carry the child should it accept.
