Rift was bounding along the beautiful grasses of his home cave. As he ran through the forest, small plants grew into beautiful flowers every so often, leaving a trail of color behind him. A cracking sound broke into his bliss and he skidded to a halt. Not far away was a chrysalis that was cracking. Excited, he walked forward and sat down patiently for the creature to emerge.

It was a small pup, barely as tall as the fur on his chest. He leaned down and sniffed it carefully, admiring the determined look in its eyes. "Hello! I'm Rift! What's your name?"

Rain looked up at the big creature and shrang against the ground,
her tail fluffing up indignantly at being dwarfed.

"How are you so freaking huge?!" She squeaked, her words barely loud enough for her own ears, let alone his. She looked up at the other creature and then sneezed, attempting to absorb in moisture from her surroundings without even realizing it.

Words. "Speech."

Rift looked at the pup with confusion. He didn't really think it mattered how big he was. And he didn't really know how. He just was. "I guess I grew," now taking time to look at himself and realizing that he had in fact grown since his own hatching.

His excitement at being grown caused a few small sprouts to peak out of the ground. He didn't notice them, however, as he turned back to the dog. "I'm not going to hurt you, I just want to know your name."

Rai kept staring at him, dumbfounded, until she heard him speak again. She puffed out her chest proudly.

"What gives you the to know my name then?" She asked defiantly, her small body wasn't even a tenth of the creatures and still didn't trust him. She sneezed again and, like last time, her body acted accordingly and drained more of the moisture than she could hold from the air, and sucked it into her body. This time it was visible to the other creature. This time she started choking on the water and gagging and coughing.

Words. "Speech."

Rift felt a flash of anger at the pup's annoying defiance. As the emotion rippled his pelt, a few petunia's sprouted on his skin and their purple color flash through his fur. "I'm just trying to be friendly," he replied, narrowing his eyes. Whatever was causing the dog to be so hostile, he didn't know. But it was probably in their personality. He wasn't sure he liked that.

But his eyes widened as he noticed water collecting on her skin and she started gagging. Instinctively, he stepped closer, ready to help in any way he could. "Are you alright? Can I help?"

"Please...help....me!" She choked out, her small paws starting to scrabble on the rough terrain as she was choked on the water. She didn't know why she felt water in her throat and kept coughing.

Words. "Speech."

Rift's eyes grew wide and fear fluttered in his heart. He'd never helped a drowning gembound, and especially not one that wasn't even close to water! What could he do? He didn't think that his plants would help in this situation. So, instead, he did the only thing that was logical to him. He lunged forward and hit his paw on her small back, not too hard to do any damage, but hopefully enough to dislodge the water. His swing was perfect, his paw coming down with the perfect amount of pressure on the perfect spot that would cause her to sputter and release the water from her throat.

She sputtered, the water in her mouth coming out and splattering on the leafy ground. She looked up at the big creature and then passed out, her small head dropping to the floor with an audible thunk.

Rift was relieved when she spat out the water and, for a moment, dared to believe that she was okay. But then she promptly passed out. He started to panic. What was he supposed to do? Now he really couldn't give her any herbs or plants! He looked around, trying to find some inspiration, when he thought of his home. He couldn't drag her there, but maybe he could make a new one.

Focusing all his magic energy, his ear began to buzz with power. He ignored the ringing that blew into his mind and instead focused all of it into his paws, calling forth the mightiest of his spells.
