A gem lay nestled against a wall. For a cycle, it had been growing something among its walls. Now, as a crack appeared, it was time for whatever was growing inside to come out. The crack grew, splintering along the black gem with light blue speckles. It wasn't long before a side of it gave in with a crack! revealing a small puppy.

Said puppy lifted its head and looked around. Their eyes didn't work too well just yet, but they could tell wherever they were was bright. Very bright. Color and light flooded in wherever they looked, causing them to close their eyes briefly before opening them again.

Looking around, they tried to figure out where they were but could not tell. They knew nothing about the area they hatched in. They wanted to know about it. But how? Was anyone nearby?
