'cause i'm the big bad wolf
now let the games begin

Coal black paws treaded across the dead, ashen ground, but with each step, tiny, green sprouts emerged in their wake. The scraggly she-wolf had walked what seemed like acres across the blacken, smoking scar that tore through Eridanus, her home, and kingdom, for many cycles. Or at least, it was until now.

Her fur and whiskers were singed, and she reeked of burnt hair. Dezba had barely escaped the inferno with her hide. Her den, her work, her legacy, all destroyed by a fool recklessly wielding fire. She tried to resurrect the green life taken in the fire, but sadly, she was one gembound who could only do so much.

The black she-wolf strode through the charred remains of the once lush jungle and came to a stop at a desolate valley. She sniffed the air, and caught the powerful stench of charred flesh in the wind. Dezba narrowed her burning, green eyes. They were gembounds like her, but they were not as lucky. She bristled with anger. It was not like her to care what happened to others, but burning alive, in her own territory, no less, was a fate too cruel to be ignored. Whoever had done this was murderer, and if she found them, they would not get off so lightly.

The run hung noise of the wolf walking through the dead, charred forest jolted Lethe awake. The half-formed chrysalis around her shattered in an instant but she barely noticed. Something smelled funny.

She lifted her nose to the air, a bit of green crystal sliding off and she was immediately met with an acrid, disgusting smell and taste on her tongue. Her nose wrinkled with displeasure and she climbed out from under the tree roots she had been sleeping under.

The world was no longer the lush green, fruitful place it had once been. Everything was charred and burned to nothing but ash. The fruit and the leaves, everything. Gone. All that there was was dead forest and a black wolf.

Still sleepy from her cycle long nap and grumpy that she had been awoken to this, her irrational, not-too-sharp mind immediately identified the culprit of this disaster as none other then the wolf in front of her.

Her lip curled with anger and her long tail lashed, throwing up ash and dust. "Think your funny do you? Burning all the food and shit? Now how am I supposed to eat?" Her words were slow and slurred, way too obviously the voice of someone that had no idea what was actually going on.

Dezba approached a twisted carcass, scorched beyond recognition, and sniffed it. The burnt meat had not rotted and smelled.. somewhat savory, to her surprise. Dezba licked her chops. The dead gembound, greater or not, did not need its flesh as much as she did, not anymore. The idea that this could have been someone like her repulsed Dezba a little bit, but her stomach was to hungry to really care. She was about to dig in when a cranky voice from behind her broke the silence.

The black she-wolf snapped her head towards the groggy stranger, and gnashed her teeth when she heard the insult."What did you say to me, you little shit?" She growled, stalking closer. Never once did her hateful, green eyes break contact as she pushed her way towards the binturong, like a dark, menacing storm. "Watch your tongue," The she-wolf snarled ominously. Her bared fangs moved in threateningly close, with breath, hot and sticky. "Before I tear it out. "

She snapped away and huffed. "Besides, I don't burn things," Dezba said. "I make them grow."

She placed her paw down on the ash and called forth the dormant seeds. She felt something grow, but then, its life was drained from the soil. Dezba sighed, annoyed by her botched attempts at magic, and raked her paw across the ash. Wilted seedlings poked up from the earth, crumpled and dead. It was a depressing sight for the she-wolf. "But it seems I can even do that right now." She snorted bitterly and stalked off towards the carcass.

Perhaps Eridanus would be better off without her.

The Binturong rolled her eyes at the threat. Despite knowing that she should definitely be scared by the wolf, she wasn't the slightest bit scared. Perhaps it was just because she was far too grumpy to be dealing with any of this right now. Way too tired.

She unintentionally felt a yawn coming on and her jaws stretched wide. "Yeah, well, you don't look much like a grower to me," she yawned. "If you had any decency you'd grow me something to eat. I'm starving." She leaned down and tried to chew on a half-dead plant but the ash and charcoal coating the leaves was foul. She spit it out with disgust.

Also frustrated, she scraped her claws against the ground, wishing that she had some kind of magic that would magically make food appear. That would be nice.
