Just an idea, but you know how most RPGs have factional reputation that can unlock quests and vendors, and lower your reputation with enemy factions?
I'm not sure what Origin's backstory or plot is in terms of friends/enemies NPC-wise, but this might be a really cool thing to implement. I'm just not sure how it would be kept track of.
Like imagine if you could ally with the golems or yetis and get to a point where you're friendly with one but hostile with the other, or with certain npcs or npc groups.
Some ideas for rep rewards:
- Additional Magicka earned when posting in areas that your friendly faction calls "home"
- A spell to call a friendly NPC to your aid (a /roll is required to see if it arrives or hits in combat, maybe)
- Access to purchase faction-specific spells and/or armor
- Secret information/plot progression/authority over other Gembounds of that faction
Some ways to gain that rep (it would be faction-specific, and requested by the faction):
- To gather things that the faction needs, ex. magical items, food, armor scraps
- Spy on, injure or steal or damage something specific from a Gembound of an enemy faction
- To aid the friendly NPCs in combat or quests
I'd give you ideas for factions, but bar The Beast, Aquarian, Yetis, Deer Dad and Golems, we don't yet know any :D
I think it'd provide a pretty cool way to additionally define your characters, measure their progress, provide incentive for posting and plotting, etc. Possible drawbacks include the fact that long-standing chars gain more of an advantage over newcomers, there'd be added complexity for newcomers learning the game, and that it may be too difficult to technically implement.
One other note: a character could easily gain reputation with more than one faction. The exception is that I imagine helping one faction will anger their enemies, if they hear about it (and for simplicity's sakes we could imagine that they would).
Origin already sets itself apart and ventures more into RPG territory with the awesome rolling system. This is along the same lines, imo; maybe it could be looked at later on when more NPCs and NPC groups are available?
That's all for now (read: I'll probably edit this fifteen times...)
