So, going into our third month we've finally hit that inevitable dead period. Most if not all sites experience one at the beginning, and periodically through their existence. But a good site will outlast these periods and come out even more active - so thats why we need to buckle down and pick up the slack! I'd like to brainstorm some ways we can get Origin more active, including increasing our member numbers, active threads, etc.

Here's some suggestions i have:

- Advertising on rp blogs on tumblr, rpg directories, etc - branch out and advertise in places we haven't advertised before! Try to appeal to the rpg communities on other kinds of websites like tumblr, pet sites, etc.

- Origin dA group? For the artists, maybe we can get something going in the art community.

- The AW initiative: always have an AW thread going! Join AW's when you can! Tie up the loose ends in your old threads and start new ones, do some group activities or something. Get some new threads going!

Thats all i got right now. Anybody else have ideas? :O

MORE FLUFFY WHITE SHEETS

How about a limited time promotion? New members that join Origin get 100 magicka when their character is accepted to use on a low intensity spell or to save. This promotion lasts one or two weeks, and the prize is claimable only once, for fairness.

Please tag me when it is my turn in threads!

If I have not replied to a thread in a week, feel free to skip me!

If you'd like me to use a different table in a thread
just let me know!

Organ Cave.

Where we all wear costumes.

Or daily bonuses. Like from those cheap apps, we could have day 1 be 20 day 2 be 50
weeks might be better actually. We should have weekly magicka rewards.
So no one will want to leave :)
One day I'll get the pronouns correct..one day...

What about more magicka per post?

Also, what about some sort of weekly raffle? You could make it where for every certain number of posts your name is entered first once and then for every count you meet you get your name in more times for the prize. Alternatively, instead of doing it for posts you could do it for threads completed as more initiative to post/get threads completed.

LOL OMG. I could make flyers and pass them out at ComiCon. I bet you we'd have this huge-ass influx of people. XDDD I'm kidding. That would never work. Ahaha. Um... I could talk to some of my friends who like RPing. I've already tried getting bf in here but he's not into RPing animals... But I know a few people who are.

@Banshee - thats something to keep in mind, especially if we're having a special Origin event!

@Sans - i really like the magicka incentive for posting at least once a week. possibly you can claim magicka if you've posted that week? i'm not sure, we'd have to work it out, but i do like the idea!

@Briar - i do like the idea of a weekly raffle; if it was for posts, people would have to keep track of their own posts, but if it was for complete threads, i feel like we'd have very few entries every week :P maybe every 2 weeks? every month? as for more magicka per post, the Core already offers an increased magicka output. Magicka is *supposed* to be difficult to rack up, so I don't want to make it easier :P

@Fira - literally make little business cards for Origin and give them to people, literally. :P i mean, i always go to C4 and i roleplay, who knows how many other people do it? if you're going into a large gathering of people with the intention of bringing people to Origin, i guarantee that comic con would be the best place to do it, lmao!

JUST SAW THIS THREAD O:

Bringing up activity of current members

Board-wide:,

World events are awesome and Origin’s doing a really great job. However, these threads are getting dragged over time. It would be tedious and overpowering for any one player to toss all their characters into a key event thread and put a strain on administrators as well. I’d like to suggest special events lasting 1-2 weeks where a character may need to only post once and get a reward. E.g. mysterious, different coloured crystals have appeared everywhere and if your character cracks one open, a random reward pre-determined by admins will appear (perhaps based on roll number). It could be a few magicka, an IC item etc. This way, there’s an element of surprise which players can look forward to! But overall, I feel that Origin is doing very well with board-wide plots.

There seems to be a couple of quests going on at one go – Beast’s armour, dragon and lamb, carvings…perhaps all these things can be compiled and regularly updated on one page! For example, I was getting confused whether certain armour had been retrieved, and where these threads were, hence I have refrained from participating in the Beast’s quest. If everything ongoing (not just a compilation of all the quests thus far under Game History) is compiled and regularly updated on one page, rather than having a player to go through the different cave reports, I believe it’ll be much more convenient for existing and new players!

Group-wide:

Many successful roleplay sites I’ve seen have board-wide plots (which Origin’s doing really well in), but that isn’t the only key focus of players. Players should also be incentivised by the micro-details i.e. the groups, packs, tribes they are in. This refers to Maji Walezi, Bonebound and Merrymen. I would suggest a tab on top linking to each pack, so that potential players may learn about these groups easily and think about how they can have a character join, rise up in ranks and just be incentivised to post and work towards something in general. I’ve noticed that Banshee has created a formatting for the groups and think it’s a very good initiative! (side note: I’ve suggested The Council here, intending to use it to pick up activity if it’s possible in the near future: /showthread.php?tid=816)

Motivations:

Currently, characters are driven by individual motivations. There doesn’t seem to be much of a goal for a new gembound i.e. wander around, explore one tunnel after the next and just look out for the next big thing happening. Joining a group and inter-group interactions (mediators, visitations etc.) should be encouraged to boost activity in other events apart from the board-wide plot. Although Origin is free-play and I really love the system, there could be more IC achievements e.g. participate in a hunt, participate in a group’s festival, active membership for 1 month, 3 months, 6 months etc. The reward could be in magicka or a shiny badge to add to one’s profile. This will give a sense of direction for players to write because currently, they’d just be wandering the tunnels and not doing much (especially since the groups are rather peaceful with one another too).

Others:

I have suggested this previously in the cbox, whereby there is a prey account. This way, existing players may choose to play a prey for other players and claim magicka for it when it’s over. The ones participating in the hunt may claim magicka too. That way, there’d be “GM” activity without an actual GM, players may take control of this aspect and beef up the roleplaying life! Also, how about being able to spend Magicka on selective mutations? Another note is that personally, I feel it rather tedious having to play my character for 4 months before finally hitting 4 cycles and this might cause the board to move slowly as well, since characters are growing at a slow rate too (but it’s okay)

Bringing in new members

A change in banner every month would be nice (how the board looks to non-members). A simple shake up of graphics might be good too, giving the board a fresh new look, a different colour scheme now and then.

As a newbie, I didn’t realize that Origin used a roll system till I started typing – and that got me hooked. I’d suggest a simple “roll” guide to be placed under “game mechanics” in the guidebook to highlight how this makes Origin unique and worth it to be in (:

Also, it’d be good to list out hyperlinks to existing groups under the guidebook or in a tab above for easy access!

I agree with a weekly raffle, but it could be other things too e.g. a rare set of armour, something aesthetic? I’ve noticed that players are very happy to have Usui craft them something (and it’s really nice, I like it too), that their characters might gain something else other than spending on magic once more.

Also, instead of more magicka to new characters for a limited period of time, how about have a changing/randomized list of 5-10 animals that if these species were created, they’d get the extra magicka? I think it’s a nice way of increasing the diversity of species on Origin.

In conclusion: I'm in favour of having more activities/goals to aim towards to boost activity, rather than through direct increase of magicka.
