Torrential downpours cause localized flooding and many upset cats. Along with these frequent rain, from gentle drizzles to heavy rainfall, there seems to be a flux of Magicka drawn in particular to water sources. Occasional jet streams of warm air make narrower tunnels harder to navigate. On occasion, the rain intensifies, becoming howling storms with sleet or large hail. However, the temperatures overall are a little warmer, with snow and ice in temperate caves somewhat receding.

Curious... it had come to see, to know, to observe; it was the traveler, the wayfarer, the seeking and the sought. It did approach the mouth of the room most dense in magic, but it did not enter. Here, where the air vibrated with a magical hum; here, where the air was illuminated by such energy; and here, where it would make its visit unknown and unseen.
The light around the Polaris entrance slowly and gradually faded; and faded more, until the area was swathed in darkness. It scattered treasures around the floor, gems and other sparkling things that might illuminate when trespassed upon. Were these creatures covetous of objects?
When it felt satisfied, it backed itself against the wall and retrieved from its robe a small black book and a small black pencil. It would wait for hours, perhaps days, perhaps longer; completely still and silent. The Observer, the Visitor, the... its calling was lost like a whisper on a dark and empty night.
Gembounds are free to explore this area veiled in shadow. Please note which grid position your character is searching in so that their treasure may be revealed!
There are three grid spaces that are available to discover the Visitor; each time it is discovered, it will move to a different space.
The grid will be updated each round to reflect character progress. More than one character may occupy a grid space, and fighting or bartering may occur for treasures.
Vivilene wasn't so much afraid of the dark as much as she was... very unnerved by it. But Vivilene found that she was Very Unnerved by most things; so perhaps this much wasn't a surprise.
Ahh, but the curiosity bit at her. When the lights faded she heard tinkling, bumping-- mysterious and anxiety-inducing, yes, but very interesting. No matter how worried she was going to end up she just had to see what was going on, find what little treasures were being thrown around in there.
There were two, hesitant clicks, before she went bounding into the dark. She stopped somewhere, where she judged would be... the middle. Roughly the middle. Actually it was fairly difficult to tell where she was anymore.
Don't panic, Vivilene told herself, who was definitely beginning to panic. The fear blossomed in her little chest like a cold chill, a sickness, but Vivilene knew, at least, how to combat it. At least for a while.
There was a little thump as she knelt down and started searching the ground for treasures.
When the Darkness descended, Hunter wasn't far off from Vivilene-- he had been stalking his sister, waiting for the right opportunity to punk her in some way without scaring the heck out of her. He felt too bad to really make a move, though, and spent most of his time picking up weird rocks and almost losing her.
... But then it was black. And Vivilene, his lovely sister, clattered off into the darkness. "Vivi!" The biped noodle yelled after her, charging forward toward the echoing of her hooves. He quickly became disoriented in the blackness, somehow either passing her or stopping too short of her.
Either way, he had lost her in the black. Things clattered around him, ears swivelling to listen to the strange sounds. Was there .. something in this darkness? The mustelid sniffed, pulling his spear from his back, and began to poke around cautiously.
"Hey, Vi? I'm over here, alright-- where are you?"

Alpha and Garnet-Delta are searching B4
(powerplayed delta into here with permission! shaf'll post it tomorrow)
Alpha's whole reason for being here was pretty simple: its smaller sibling, Garnet-Delta, had done the equivalent of pulling on its pantleg and staring up with those big buggy eyes of its, calling up to the heavens about some need to explore and check out what this Polaris deal was all about. Which, fair enough. Given the... circumstances (dragons, think dragons) it didn't want to be caught out and about without a bodyguard.
Which, led them here. To this pitch-black space. It could see if it kept bowing down and staring directly at the floor, but... well, that was pretty inefficient when you were front-heavy and your front legs were entirely too long for any efficient scuttling around like a bloodhound on a scent.
Instead, it straightened, grunting up to the garnet on its head, "do you see anything?" It was more suited to seeing in the dark - something magic-related, for sure. Alpha just continued to stare down, then glancing around for any lifesigns.

Hm, the darkness in here was thick, all of a sudden. They'd just been passing through when they'd found the place covered with darkness. They grinned wide and tried to look around, to see their surroundings. But it was so, so dark.
Their curiosity was stirred. They wanted to know who'd put the lights out and why. What was going on. And if there was some kind of secret here to figure out. The had magic pulsed into their eyes, to heighten their senses to see through the unwavering darkness. They walked around, trying to find someone nearby. They could hear a voice (oh great, Alpha was here) and others walking around as well, but they searched their area first.

His first thought was, 'wow. It's dark.' Well- no. His first thought was, 'oh shit. I've just lost my daughters.' And that spurred on first 'huh, I wonder where they are,' to 'I hope they're okay,' to 'oh no, what if Vivilene sees that bug monster that Asteri saw?'
To say he was concerned would be an understatement. Even if he didn't have the trembling anxiety of Vivilene, he still worried when Hunter went in after her, and disappeared without a trace to follow them.
'Ooh boy.' Drawing in his breath, he stepped in behind his daughter, fingers tensing on the bag around his shoulders. Hunter'd gone through this way, right? Or- was it the other way? Oh no. When he turned around, the darkness blinded him, and he reached out in a fumbling motion into the air.
Nothing. Well. No way to go but forward. But- well, it didn't hurt to try something, at least. "Vivi! Hunter! Where'd you run off to!" They could get hurt, they could get kidnapped, that beast could be back, they could trip and fall, they could find a dragon (wait, dragons were good-)
Ah, hush, brain. Work on your vocal cords. "Hunter! Vivilene!" He cupped his hands around his mouth, searching in the dark for them. Hunter was calling for her- he could hear him, but when the elf went to look all he found was more and more darkness.
Pip had been on her way back to Orion from Polaris. Her escapades with the door were pretty cool, but she wanted to find those familiar ruins. Had Pip not gotten caught up in the sudden darkness, she'd likely had been searching the caves for much, much longer. As the tiny gembound began to enter, everything got darker. It seemed to just be the normal darkness of the caves at first. But the darkness deepened. Richer and thicker, until Pip was left in pitch black. Then she knew for a fact that something was wrong. She tapped her arms against the ground as she walked, trying to avoid stepping on anything that could bite.

She took in a deep breath. She was stalling meeting the Overseer- and why shouldn't she? No. No, that line of thinking was rather rebellious. The quills on her back shook as she rustled her pelt, resetting herself and clearing her mind.
She had a purpose to serve. Closing her bleary eyes, she held her head high as her ears dialed around her to listen in on the surroundings. Typical, Linea things. Just do your job. Her nostrils flared as she scented the air and turned towards the tunnel she last hibernated in.
When she opened her eyes, though, she was taken aback by the lack of light. Had the generator broken? No- looking back in the previous room, she saw lights there still sputter on, and her quills rattled more with a shiver of her coat. Curious. Was this a trick of the weather? Hm, she could have sworn she knew some sort of magic to cast light at night, but at this level she wasn't sure if she even needed it with the state of her eyes.
Instead, she relied on her ears, dipping her head as her pedipalps stalked forward, toes clicking on the rock below. Others were calling out and clatterings of rock sounded around her. They had lost people? There was also the fact that she hadn't heard this many people in a long while.
Her head drew up at the orthoclase's voice. That's one she knew, and she drew closer, following the siren song while stopping now and again to feel for the ground below.
All in all, not too much a change. Perhaps the orthoclase could give her a brief run-down on how this happened.

Curiosity killed the cat, and all that.
So when the lights went out, Callie trotted that way. Oh, what was that? And there was jingling and jangling and clattering and humming, and that was just her sort of thing, of course, so, with a happy purr, the fluffy calico slunk into the shadows, perking her ears as she slunk through the dark, detecting heart beats around her.
What was that? She wasn't sure, but she was a cat, and curiosity killed them, but satisfaction brought them back and she fully intended on being satisfied by the end.

Morpho had stuck to Orion for the most part- it was the cave most familiar to him, after all- but after being unable to find Pip, he decided to go and look for her.
By the time he entered the tunnel it was already pitch black. He would've blinked, if bugs had eyelids, but instead he looked around the pitch-black room- not seeing much, since it was so dark.
Then he heard Pip. At least his search was now finished, but there was completely different problem at hand now. "Pip?" He called, making his was over to the sound of her voice.
