Tectus waited around the Tower, lingering on the floor where the three chrysalis were growing. They were...very large now. Now so big that the floor was completely taken up by them, they weren't hatching as Valkhounds did, fully grown and all, but they were definitely going to be large creatures. That was pleasing to her, considering how small some of her last hatch had been.

Hopefully, these would not disappoint.

It had been a cycle, yes? Perhaps a few days further but she knew to be patient and wait. They'd hatch in time. And she had done plenty of waiting before.

Their arrival would be met by the massive Overseer awaiting them eagerly. She'd welcome them in.

Callista stood under the ceiling of Orion and looked up, curious. She had never really considered the "stars" of Orion before, unable to even get close to them. She didn't have wings or anything and didn't exactly have the kind of magic to get her up there. But she knew they couldn't be stars...not when there was a ceiling.

As a kid, hatching here, she really had thought that there wasn't anything but the ceiling. And those stars were the only stars that existed. She knew better now, stories of Noctua, of the surface, but she had yet to go. It was so far, but she'd heard the descriptions - an endless beyond, glittering stars so distant it doesn't seem real.

These were not stars. Which meant they could get knocked down.

She reached down and grabbed a pebble off the ground, turning back towards the ceiling. Tossing the stone in her paw once, she gathered energy into her arm and then made to throw it as hard as she could. As the stone released, the energy surged from paw to rock and shot upwards towards one of the "stars". There was a distant fracturing sound as the stone hit one of the lights and then bounced off, to immediately hit the ceiling, scattering shards of rock down towards the ground.

She huffed. So close.
Tectus definitely did not try to give life to the three stones she had in her posession as soon as she returned from Ursa. She was exhausted, probably frost-bitten, and in no shape to create. A night's rest and a warm meal revived her, though, leaving her sore and, thankfully, free of major injury.

Now she traveled to the second floor of the tower, the three stones she carried safely under her tongue deposited on the floor. First, the ghostbird's jacinth from the day before, a sunstone she'd found while wandering, and an olivine, which one of the force had found.

The jacinth was first and a surge of magicka thrust into it - Tectus was pleased, having been slightly nervous that it wouldn't take to the Lesser's stone. But as soon as she set it against the wall, it began to grow into the surrounding architecture.

Good - they would have their scout, their watcher. One that could blend into Ursa and keep an eye on the Hive to report back, to her, Vargas, or Aethril.
It was that hard. And now it would lose all hope at its gossip-o-matic 9000--oh! Who's that! A creature it hadn't seen before! And big, too. It had been told (by the veterans it had begged for help behind the arena) that those who belonged to the Task Force tended to be big. Especially when it could not even find any of the groups it was supposed to befriend! There were supposed to be two of them in Orion; surely it could not be that hard?

It was that hard. And now it would lose all hope at its gossip-o-matic 9000--oh! Who's that! A creature it hadn't seen before! And big, too. It had been told (by the veterans it had begged for help behind the arena) that those who belonged to the Task Force tended to be big. Its heart beat faster as it always did when it had to make any kind of introduction or social interaction. But it wanted its gossip-o-matic 9000! Faceless skittered forward, eternally-smiling mask looking especially hopeful today.

"Hello!" it chattered. "Are you from the Task Force, buh- by any chance?"
The chrysalis had been growing steadily - gathering energy within itself for cycles now. The black opal, sitting between the soft bedding of the shared nest had begun to crack that morning. A small nick in the top of the crystal - barely noticeable at first.
It is only some hours later that the crack fully scales down the crystal, a wet slap hitting the warm nest surrounding it. Vizard opens her eyes to a new world, and a soft one.
It had taken some digging through the information network to figure out that the smith named Ember, who knew how to make enchanted objects, generally spent his time in Orion. It was some distance away from any of the established nodes the Hive possessed, but it wasn't as though Jinyi had never ventured this far before--he had, in fact, been to this place once before a long while ago.

Jinyi flew from Ursa to Orion on shimmering cosmic wings, then let them dissolve away as he landed gently. He made his way to the Throne at a deliberate pace. He had made sure that every detail of his appearance was in order before departing to ensure he made a good impression. To those who knew him, his appearance may have seemed oddly bare--most of the organic silk of his 'robes' had been cut off by Jinyi himself rather recently--but he had made sure the cuts were clean, that the silk that remained draped nicely and symmetrically, and that his chitin was free of chips (no pun intended) and imperfections. And he had come bearing greeting gifts. He wasn't sure what Ember liked, so he tried to bring multiple possibilities. Four bags of Dontas lay arranged in a biodegradable box, similar to a thicker version of the material used in the bags. Also in the box was a set of ornately-filigreed goggles, with a protective layer over the eyes, that Mother had crafted cycles earlier for her entirely harmless gifts to the Gembound. Jinyi thought it might be useful for a smith. At least, based on what he imagined smiths did, which was spend a lot of time around fire, things that glowed bright with heat, and sparks. Perhaps he could also sculpt something with organic polymer on the spot, or promise something else, maybe along the lines of what Halcyon had suggested in their conversation.

When asking a favor from someone, after all, it was always good to show your sincerity.

At the door of the workshop--Jinyi was pretty sure this was the right workshop--he checked over his appearance once more and knocked with a smooth pipe-organ "Hello?"

"I'm looking for Ember," he added to the door.
The Olympics had simply taken too long. The Overseer had overestimated their ability to choose the worthy before it became too much for the valkhound. By the time she returned to the cavern where Saran'zol waited, with the names of the worthy on her tongue, the oilstone chrysalis had reformed, but this time the shell had trembled with the force of keeping the valkhound contained. She had waited for a few days, before telling everyone to go home - when he emerged again, they would be ready. It could be any day now.

Tectus had kept an eye on it. Every day, she'd journey to the wall in Orion and see if there was any change. For a while, it was simply tension.

But then, a few days ago, the spark shad gotten worse. The oilstone's angry reddish glow had started to get stronger. When another day passed and it got considerably worse, she'd called for them - the worthy. The champions of her games, that had proven themselves, hopefully, strong enough to withstand the might of the Unbound Champion.

And then, at last, the day came where the energy that charged in the air was so palpable, one could taste it, like blood and ozone. Tectus stood in the middle of the Forum and knew it was time. She raised her head. <spk>"COME, CHOSEN GEMBOUND!! FIGHT WELL! SURVIVE!! YOU HAVE PROVEN YOURSELVES WORTHY!!"</spk> Her voice bellowed through the ruined city of Orion, loud enough to echo across the walls and send streams of dust trickling down form the ceiling. With her announcement out of the way, she turned and climbed back into the seats, high above where she could carefully observe while being out of the way of the fight.
It would not go the same way as the wrestling. It would NOT. He had nothing to hold back, now. He had no limits. He should have won that fight, but he had been SHACKLED. He would NOT be shackled any longer!!

Snarling, he stepped out to the same place that he had been during the wrestling tournament and waited. If she didn't show up...then he would make a sport out of hunting her. He would find her. And she would wish she'd never hatched.

A part of him hoped that she wouldn't show up. To let all forms of honor die sounded ideal to him. He very much desired to peel her apart form the inside out, if only for the satisfaction of revenge. All this to say that the Bauxite had spent most of its cycles decimating, or attempting to decimate, the local ecosystem. However, he was no cat, and stealth was a skill he'd been forced to self-teach. The odds were not in his favour.
Bored. Bored bored bored bored bored. BORED.

What was the point of a task force with no tasks. Not that the Bauxite was keen on completing anything asked of it. But it wanted to be asked anyways! Otherwise what was even the point of doing anything, of using this stupid fake name and designation, trying to prove himself "worthy" to anyone but himself. He was Shepherd. He was BORN worthy.

All this to say that the Bauxite had spent most of its cycles decimating, or attempting to decimate, the local ecosystem. However, he was no cat, and stealth was a skill he'd been forced to self-teach. The odds were not in his favour.

All he had was a target, and the general direction it might be.

The last of the matches, Azrael stepped out into the forum once again, flexing his muscles as he warmed up for the final fight. He'd had some good ones over the last few days, and now he was looking forward to facing his competition for the winning spot. Of course, he was fully confident he was going to win - there was no room for doubt in his own mind.

He had thought about donning his armor for this one - it was a set he rarely used, finding it restrictive to his movements - but he figured if he'd gone through the rest of the tournament without it, then he would finish without it.

He stopped near the center and waited with eyes burning bright. He was ready for this.

Cycle 133 - Backdated so Chishio can play his character!

Foraging was something Aurelle and Lichen often did; they needed to eat, they needed materials to repair the ruin they'd holed up in, different amenities that made life comfortable for Aurelle. So, as far as days went, this one was no different to the others.

What was different was the suspicious shuffling around when Lichen had returned. She scuffled close to the walls, not announcing her presence to her fellow blind roommate beyond the scuffing of her feet across the floor -- which was lop-sided as the dragon clutched something to her chest. Making the tripedal movements loud and clumsy.

She hung close to the walls of the old ruin, trying to find her way into the room she and Aurelle slept in. Unawares of Aurelle's whereabouts and if she'd even made it home yet; not that she could see if Aurelle was there.

Once Lichen felt the air change (it was much less open to the elements in their sleeping room, thanks to the blankets that covered the major holes) she finally stooped down low to where their shared nest was; lowering her find into the soft things they'd piled up.

This find happened to be a gemstone; one of black opal.

Without waiting further, she began shuffling through the pile of soft things, digging a divot into the pile between the junction where two walls met and the pile touched. With the makeshift nest built, she lowered the gem inside.

Aurelle wouldn't mind, surely. Lichen would explain everything and Aurelle would do what she usually did, which was smile, nod and say something supportive. At least, that's what Lichen told herself as she leaned into the soft-thing hole she'd made to hold the gemstone.

Lichen sighed, she hoped they'd both at least be on the same page about not letting a defenceless gemstone roll around the caves. Surely?

The spell made the back of her eyes tickle and itch; Lichen had never done it before, but surely, it would be easy. It was the simple act of giving life, how hard could it be?

Wolfhound had, for nearly an hour, tried to sit on Orion's throne. This was mostly Furud's doing; he wanted to SIT on the CHAIR, even though the other heads had (with dwindling patience) tried repeatedly to explain that their body was not designed for it. They were quadrupedal. They had a very long tail on their butt, which they were pretty sure was the part that went on the chair bit. And even if they could sit upright, they had wings.

Furud didn't care, and he'd been promised the day to choose their activities, so eventually the other heads had given up and held conversations amongst themselves while they let him grunt and squirm and fail to sit in the chair.

When they left the throne, it wasn't because Furud had admitted failure. It was because he'd lost interest, his attention drawn by a new challenge: climbing the Tower. This went as well as one might expect; he kept falling off halfway up. The other heads whispered amongst themselves quizzically: they shared control of the body but surely... Furud knew... that they could fly?

He probably just wanted the challenge, they'd reasoned, and now that had brought them here. Furud was currently trying to scale the cliffs, the other heads doing the minimum to help out, still impatiently indulging him as one would while babysitting a particularly rambunctious child.

Wolfhound was not, on the whole, hard to miss. They'd been all over Orion today, and for those who couldn't see their starlit body (either because of the dim lighting, or something else) would surely hear the scrabbling claws on rock, the loud grunts, and the sounds of multiple voices as the others spoke of other things.

<spk4>"Almost... THERE."</spk4>

<spk3>"It feels almost... like there's latent magic. Sirius?"</spk3>
<spk1>"I don't feel it. Or... no more than any place else. Not like Polaris, I should think."</spk1>

<spk4>"FUCK."</spk4> (Cue the sound of crumbling rock as Wolfhound's heavy body broke away part of a ledge. They nearly fell, until the leathery thud of wings caught them and returned them to the rock slab just below.)

<spk3>"...Anyway, I'm not sure it's like that. It's almost like. Hmm. Memories?"</spk3>
<spk2>"...Furud, are you all right?"</spk2>
<spk1>"I don't feel it. Are you certain you aren't imagining what you want to feel? I do not think-"</spk1>

<spk4>"FINE. Ugh. Why is this so HARD. -Do you think there's food up there?"</spk4>

...and so forth.
