It looked back at the oilstone chrysalis it had emerged from. Still tacky with the fluids within as it tilted its head at the now empty gemstone. Then, turned its gaze onto the rest of the hall it'd found itself in. More stones clung to the walls, emerging from the floor.

No matter, it'd already made its way some distance away from the chrysalis, and there was more to see. It thought it had hatched alone. Already at peace with that fact, as it slithered down the halls. It didn't plan to go back in the direction of the groaning noises, it didn't sound like a safe place to be.

Thick, thorny scales made a light scraping noise against the stone as it slithered. A consistent 'ccrrrrrrr' along the tunnel. It didn't know why it was here yet. It only knew a name that would be replaced with a designation: Creep. It didn't know what it would be assigned, not yet.

It didn't yet know of its place within the machinations of these walls. What it had been made for. It only knew one single fact: it was quite hungry. And that there was nothing to eat yet in this tunnel.

At once, there was light, then sight, hearing, tactile sensation. The walls of their chrysalis pressing up against them, suffocating her.

Aiming a kick at the chrysalis' oilstone walls, the creature let out a choked warble as their hit landed and a crack spiderwebbed up the crystal walls. Shuffling to continue hammering that weak spot until pieces of it began to flake away.

Finally, a hole large enough to ooze out of her chrysalis prison and onto the cave floors. Still covered in incubation fluids.
She- They- he- Ophiuchus, he realized, that was his name. Ophiuchus scrambled upright, shaking like a wet dog and flinging fluid everywhere.

Before sight, there was sound. The pulsing of life, thrumming in the veins of the beast inside the chrysalis. The footsteps of lumbering creatures, passing time and time again, unaware of the life growing in the uppermost crags of the tunnel. Its earliest memories were sounds. Sounds were comfort and familiarity.

This feeling of touch was not. The yearning for breath, the will to open its eyes and face the light. These sensations overcame it, forcing its body to lurch, its claws to pierce the walls of its sanctuary and send it tumbling down, down, down the walls of the tunnel until it lay still on the floor of the cavern. Its neck flared- Once, twice, until its breathing was steady and its heart had regained its rhythm.

Periwinkle eyes slid open, slitted pupils widening in the brilliant glow that the creature would come to know as Pegasus. It was unnervingly quiet. No sounds to comfort the beast.
