Cra-ack. Ploop!' The sound was almost deafeningly loud in this place of quiet. Disturbing the gently flowing waters and blissful peace was a chyrsalis, high up next to one of the waterfalls. It has just begun to show signs of the life inside.

'Crra-ack.' More of the outer pyrite crumbles, sploshing into the waters below. Then, all movement stills. For one beat. Then two.

Then the chyrsalis bursts, sending tiny shards of pyrite scattering across the tunnel. A single larger shape falling with the amniotic fluids slips down the tunnel walls then, just as with the shards before it, drops into the water with a 'bloop'.

This new life for a moment seems stunned, disoriented, belly scales facing the surface and dorsal fin pointing towards the sands below. And completely frozen in place. Another beat passed, then a forth.

Then, the fish rights itself, wriggling in the waters. Its tiny face breaks the surface, looking upward from where it had fell, the remains of pyrite that clung to the wall. As the case with most fish, it's difficult to discern what it may be thinking or feeling. And, before anyone has a chance to try and guess, it dips back into the crystal clear waters.

At least, they would be crystal clear if chunks of pyrite and a falling salmon hadn't disturbed the sands below making this spot particularly murky. The fish was free, but it seemed at a loss. Idly drifting around the waters, around rocks. Letting the sands, rocks and crystals brush against its own scales, getting a feeling for these new surrounds. It didn't seem to have a goal in mind as it drifted.

Just an aimless wander. No doubt punctuated by one thought in particular: Now what?

The crystal clear waters were wonderful for admiring reflections. If it wasn't for the current, Hog was certain she'd be able to see her reflection perfectly, framed by the silt and rocks. Her dark eyes watched her own reflection, twitching only to look from her own eyes, to her large ears, her round and soft belly, to her trotters. She'd opted to sit in the open, tucked up on a rock that jutted out from the waters; a low but small platform for her to admire the waters.

After her visit with the Collector, she'd found herself oddly troubled. With a deep scowl, she looked over her reflection again, as if taking stock of what was there.

Once again, it followed the same; eyes, ears, belly and trotters. As if scrutinising them for long enough would reveal whatever answers she was looking for. Eyes, ears, belly, trotters. And yet, every time she looked, it was still the same. How droll.

With a huff, she slumps back, casting her gaze instead across the dimly lit tunnel. It was a good place to think. Yet, she'd come for a different purpose, her eyes cast across the waters. Seeking something...

...She squinted against the dim light when something caught her eye. A dustmoth? Hopefully, she still needed all eight before the tavern would give her coins. Perhaps coming here from Pieces had finally paid off, and a few strays had entered the tunnel.

Scrambling to her trotters, she scurried over the rocks to reach the potential moth; she could definitely see something fluttering up above, just near the tunnel ceiling. Her trotters made a faint clacking as she hopped from rock to rock. Some nagging part of her mind told her it was too big to be a moth, but what did she know? She'd never been here before! Maybe moths just grew that big here!

So, off she went, closer and closer. It wasn't until she was directly below it that she noticed how huge this thing was. It scrabbled across the tunnel ceiling. When it finally looked at her, its pupils reflected the low light of the cave into bright pinpricks. And then, the beast lunged for her.

Hog squealed as it landed, a sharp pain from her backside sending shock through her system as she made an effort to flee from the dragonbat. Thankfully, it hadn't grasped her, though it looked as if it were ready to change that...
