Time. That was what it was called. The onward marching of life and existence. Things happened. Then they end. And the caves move on.

The Silence had spent much of that time simply. Existing. Surviving. Maybe thriving even, as she was well fed and content. But she had not done much. She had a name, once. She doesn't exactly remember it. Not that she had much of a reason to use it. There wasn't really anyone for her to talk to.

She heaved herself onto the mudbank. Here, under the gnarled roots of a tree, she'd made a den for herself. Small gemstones and broken trinkets scattered her reed nest, collected fragments of other lives she was only distantly aware of. But they were all overshadowed by the chrysalis set at the edge of the nest, pinkish-red like her own gem.

Collected from Naskital cycles prior, she'd mainly taken it out of curiosity. And it did grow, attaching to the roots to develop whatever new life it held. But then it went quiet, the dark shape peacefully asleep and never emerging.

She wasn't sure how long chrysali take to hatch, but only in the past few dimmings of lights had it started to stirr. It definitely felt longer than it was supposed to be.

Not that it mattered much to her. She has plenty of patience.

So it is a welcome change when the chrysalis starts to crackle from strain.

In the quiet, still air of Cetus, a breeze begins to pick up, waving through the trees and pushing some of the mist briefly away from the ground. Deep in the forest, under the cover of trees, a large gray rat skitters out of the undergrowth, black lines like veins spilling from its eyes. A trickle of blood runs from its nose and dribbles onto the ground.

At first, it chokes, perhaps it won't last long after all, will it die before its task is complete? But then its head raises and from it comes a whisper that echoes through the trees, barely louder then the breeze whistling through the cave.

"Children of Rot? Children of Rot...come here, secretkeepers....follow me, Children of Rot..." The rat shudders but stays still, echoing its message until the breeze dies down. And then it waits. Patiently awaits, away from the Heart and far from the Divine. Who has heard its call?

A call has been sent out to the Children of Rot to follow the rat. Others in the area that may have heard may investigate as well. There is no intentional danger here.

Children of Rot is a reclusive group of Gembound hidden away in the depths of Cetus. From the darkness of its swamp, they send members to seek the secrets of the cave. Under the leadership of the alligator Dragon they espouse the concept of survival through knowledge, and embrace Aquarian's promise of protection in return for serving him (hunting food for him).

Members are organized by Maw (its speakers), Claw (its guardians), and Eyes (its knowledge-seekers). There are no age or species requirements: only a willingness to look for the meaning in every carving, to spy on the elder Masters and their goals, to seek memories in stone and magic to uncover the history of the cave--in order to better discern, and plan for, its future.

Children of Rot is at least in part defined by its distrust of Origin's "masters" (NPCs) after the realization that they must serve other, unknown goals. It is also, therefore, defined by its hidden, esoteric nature and desire to conduct all searches, and spread its word to other Gembound, in a very secretive fashion.
