The juvenile gull was still being dragged through the darkness, bouncing over stones and flailing his wings, screaming helplessly, when something lit it all up somewhere nearby. His screaming would probably just fade in quite close to Kerberos, given the strange muffling quality of the void; as he bounced closer, the tendril dragging him, he continued to shriek.
He wasn't sure if the giant, three-headed white thing making a blinding burst of light was a friend, or an enemy, but given that literally everything he'd met in his short, hellish nightmare of a life had been hostile, he continued to scream.
His body was fighting the tendril and failing, his voice was still at maximum volume--what else could he do?! Terror kept his heart hammering far too quickly in his chest, and his magic swelled up unbidden. It didn't do anything--or if it did, it was unnoticeable, especially under his screaming--but he felt the faint strange tingle of it and it only frightened him further.
"AHHHH! NO-AAAWW! AWWW! NO! HELP! EEEEEEAAAAH! HELP! GO AWAY! AWWRAAAAWK RAWK RAWK!"
His shrill, whistling screams would whip past Kerberos as the tentacle dragged him to the wall, just a brief flailing mass of white-brown feathers.

It was there... still there, laughing. Eyes, glittering, looked at her. She stumbled around, looking at the eyes. She had tripped... they had tripped her, but... were they bad? Fallah remembered the two lights she had played tag with. They sent shivers up her body, but they were not bad. The shadows... this thing was hiding... There was a game like that, right? It was, "Hide and seek?" the lynx murmured to herself. The eyes looked at her, were they smiling eyes, or malicious eyes? For everyone's sake, she hoped they were just mischievous, "... Do you... Would you like to play a game?" she asked, her ears listening to the world behind her as her she looked to the shadows. She really hoped the shadows wanted to play a nice game and not something like eat-the-gembounds.

The voices of the Gembounds were lost in the darkness, swallowed whole by the intangible, creeping black that consumed them. As though the sounds were trapped in the endless void of space, they were left unheard, ignored, shoved aside and drowned out with the vicious manic laughter of the creature that took hold of this room. The three headed dog's raucous voice echoed and bounced through the room, and the bird's panicked calls scraped against the walls like claws on a chalkboard, but it was the lynx's voice that seemed to have stunned the darkness in its entirety. Her gentle murmur had taken the attention of the darkness, and her question seeped into the air, bringing the laughter back into pensive silence while the tentacles of shadow released their victims and slid away.
Soft, echoing rumblings. Quiet words passed among themselves. "A game? A game? She wants to play a game. We want to play a game. Let's play the game. Game. A game. Time to play. Let's play a game." The eyes, unblinking, had turned to her and then to themselves, their slit and round pupils pulsing with intrigue. Then, they all closed.
In the darkness, they could hear something suddenly shifting. As though a great weight was slowly sliding along across the ceiling, along the walls, onto the floor. The sound of blades across the rock and muffled footsteps. The feeling of some malicious presence bared down on them all. Then the creature stopped, and in that split second, the darkness thinned - a subtle glow came to the lights strung up in Canis, but only in that far corner of the room, where they could see the creature now.
It's form was thin and wretched, its long arms poised with knobbly, naked toes on the ground. It's legs were folded beneath it, and a long tail reached out behind it, darkness fizzling on the surface of its body. There was a cold stone lodged in its spine between its shoulders, looking as though it had once been clear, only now it was stained with shadows and in place of its eyes were hollow holes. It bears an uncanny resemblance to a sort of feline, but any personal familiarity it once held has been displaced by the vicious shadows interwoven through its naked skin.
It's jaws cracked open wide, revealing rows of sharp, black teeth. A coagulation of black shadow amassed between its teeth, allowing photons to bleed into its surroundings, and a dark sludge of shadow burst forward towards the four Gembounds. While the darkness itself caused no harm, it was the small glow of sharp purple surrounding the mass of shadow that seemed to burn into their skin, irradiating their bones with a corrupt wavelength of light.

Ashtoreth didn't want to fight or play any games. She wanted to be left alone-- and as the shadows slipped away her timid eyes found the source of the voice. A strange, terrifying monster of void that lashed out with a dangerous darkness that burned at her.
Her immediate reaction was to scream. Her jaws parted, the gem lodged deep in her throat reacting to the pain with magic. Her feathers rustled, claws dug into the ground under her as she kept coiled up, shaking. All of her energy she put into the magic, hoping to deter the thing from her. She didn't know what else to do if this failed-- she had no idea who any of the other large, terrifying creatures were, either. For all she knew, they all would attack her and kill her.
It was quite a frightening thing to be your first sight, anyway.

The plasma, Kerberos thought dimly, had brought back some light to the room. His doppelganger faded, his magic drained from his body. It was getting hard to keep this up-- this constant battle towards saving his mother. Pink eyes searched the shadows, unaware that the fading darkness was a choice of the void monster and not of his own glowing hot plasma in the room... Perhaps it helped, though.
As it was, finally he could see, and his six eyes locked on the beast, the feline-alike shadow monster and he felt all of the fury in his bones mount into a single point of hatred. This was the thing that was toying with them, the creature that had stolen his mother and brother and family.
He could not forgive, much less act rationally. His body was aching from his own burn out of magic, even before the radiation under the shadowy void washed over his body. A nervous laughter started up in his stomach, one not unlike his own mother's laugh-- but the barking cackle dissolved rapidly into one of venomous snarling.

He was but a hatchling, but still, he knew the difference between a game and impending death. He heard the quiet words murmured--"game," "play a game" and felt as the darkness released him.
Terror and rage filled the fledgling.
Terror, because he had hatched into a void-space filled with tentacles and whispers and what was that skinny black thing over there?! and this HOLY SHIT SCREAMING THREE-HEADED DOG BEAMING LIGHT OUT ITS MOUTH.
Rage, because this was so totally unfair. Why did he have to get born into this?!
With a raucous terrified whistling screaming cawing, and a dazed look of horror in his eyes, the gull stumbled back and away from Kerberos, who had suddenly erupted from the pitch black. He had no idea what had dragged him to the dog but he wanted nothing to do with any of this.
"GAME?!" he screamed. "You think this is a GAME?! This ain't a game! This is--this is BAD! This is some HORROR shit! HOLY GODS AND DEVILS, whatever they are, I get born into PITCH BLACKNESS and TENTACLES and WHAT ARE YOU?!" he screamed at Kerberos.
His screaming might have sounded almost confident if it didn't have the nasal whine of a young bird, barely approaching the age of flight.
And if it weren't filled with the quaking tremble of utter nearly-unconscious terror.
In fact, barely had he finished screaming before Vinnie shuddered, his eyes rolling up in his head. He managed the briefest of foul swears before collapsing on the ground, his legs twitching, passed out from fear.

The darkness swelled, pushing forward and reeling back, as though the shadows themselves were breathing and this patch of dull light was no more than a fragile lung. Black dripped from the maw of the feline beast, who sat hulking, snarling, advancing, their face contorted into a wicked smile. Had their eyes lasted, they would have been wide and bright, playful almost, but there was nothingness. Those jaws had cracked back in a manic grin that delivered only malice. It could feel the darkness clinging too to those that had met its radiated blast, and one of the creatures had shrieked its fury and then disappeared unconscious, another had parted its jaws and screamed wordlessly; a vibration in the air would agitate its senses, but nothing more.
The three headed dog was the real problem. There was fury there behind its words, each head full of gnashing teeth that, for a moment, were met with awe and appreciation. The thing wrenched its jaws open wide and cackled, dancing back at the cerberus lunged forward, its long tail sweeping low to the ground. Then it moved side to side, hopping on its toes, leaning back onto its hind feet and swatting in the direction of the dog, all while chortling a distorted, feline rattle. It couldn't see, but it could feel that magic pulling towards the dog's mouths, knowing that something would be vying to destroy it. And it would have leaped out of the way, had it not been for some small fluttering just above its head.
The hallowed caller divebombed the shadowy beast from above, landing viciously on its head and jamming its beak at its ears. The monster scowled, and then the cerberus' magic exploded towards it, a beam of concentrated radiation sending it flying. It rolled, then quickly fumbled to its paws, sending a strangled feline roar.
All at once, a thousand eyes had opened up in the surrounding darkness. Their vivid colours glowed from the shadows, multi-coloured irises shifting and focusing their slit pupils on the dog. Different sizes opened wide as they could, gaping eyeballs, staring unyielding at the dog from every direction. While a notable limp had burned into the monster's shoulder, it cackled still and backed away, melting into the shadows. It skirted around them now, hidden, playing this game of cat and mouse; ready to strike where they least expected it.

The avian was suddenly thrust towards something, and a series of events happened in a blur. But the devil that had been toying with them finally reared its ugly head. It was a dark and vicious thing, almost feline. It reminded Azazel of Cancer, but he didn't want to think about him right now. He just had to.
He had to chase this bastard out of his home.
No... they had to chase them. They had to kill them, so that they would not cause anymore terror.
He compressed the air within his lungs and took flight. And he let forth an unholy screech at the shadowy horror.

For a minute, a wave of nausea flooded Fallah. She was unable to focus, even though she was aware of the looming danger above. She heard several gembounds firing at the whatever-it-was. She couldn't just stand there and not help! Her magic glowed and she threw her head up, attempting to throw ice in a wide arc over the ceiling. It should make it harder to traverse for the monster and possibly, if she was lucky, hit it and freeze it too.

Ashtoreth froze.
There was... Something else there. Her dark eyes stared in the dim light, the shadows pressed away for just a moment. She had heard the feathers before, but now she was seeing him. An angel of reds and blacks, someone that made her try and call out into the empty void.
Somehow she knew that the Ave that had screamed was important to her especially. Afraid, she listened to how he screamed, and inhaling, she tried to mimic her father.
