He reacted before her, spilling out his rage for the name she had used for him. She could have smirked, rubbed it in his nose by calling him Vazi again, but when he threatened to snap the cub's spine if she so dared use that name one more time and she refrained from it. Every instinct told her to react, to attack the stag threatening to kill the child, but insecurity kept her in her spot. Would she even reach him in time before he stomped down and crushed the poor child's spine? She couldn't risk that, not yet. She had to be patient, to work through her thoughts and figure out how to get him away from the cub. She knew he would force her to attack him. There was just no other outcome from this exchange.
Every last fang within her jowls were exposed the moment Vazi began to claim he was allowed anywhere and she was not even worthy of 'owning' her own land. She did not own Eridanus. She merely took up the spot of overseeing it. Guarding it from the evil that threatened to harm anything and anyone. Much like the stag in front of her. She was sworn to protect all, especially the children. It had been something she had promised her hatchmate and even though Tamelyn had vanished, Arkrael would still uphold her promise. Even if that meant she must face head on the man that had stolen her heart and ultimately destroyed it. She nearly flinched when the Cub cried out in pain when Vazi pushed down even harder as he continued to speak.
"I sent no one into your filthy realm!" She snapped aggressively at his accusation.
"And I certainly would not have sent Leon after you!" Another snarl ripped out from her chest as she shifted how she was standing into a more defensive stance.
She would have never sent anyone after him. It was no one's burden but her own to face the stag. It was her one task. Her one thing she would have to accomplish on her own. Her army was only there to defend against the followers Vazi may be able to recruit and she hoped that would not be very many. She wanted to tell him that. To tell him that she would be the one to end his insanity. She would end the chaos he was ensuing through the caves with his
toxic hate of carnivores. Inwardly she flinched when he exposed his burned wounds to her and she especially ignored the part of her that cried out and hurt just by looking at the wounds. She had to remind herself that he had deserved it. For whatever reason that caused the fight between him and Leon, it was his fault. Her ears pinned back when he finally spoke of the cub beneath his hoof.
"Why do you have the cub, Hasira. What do you plan to do to her..." She hated that she had to give into him, but when he had leaned harder into the cub and the baby had cried out even louder with pain she could not deny him.
She had to get the child free from his grasp, but she was at a loss on how to do so in that moment. So, for now she would continue to bate him, to make him believe she was giving into him and keep him talking while she began to figure out in her mind just how she was going to free the poor thing.
"Please...stop hurting her. She has done nothing... She's just a baby v- Hasira..." Her voice finally cracked, almost pleading him to remove the pressure from the cub's back. Whether it was her trying to feign it or not, she hoped he would not catch on. In all honesty, that deeper part of her sobbed. Shook her nerves from the inside and it was all she could do to keep her eyes welling up with tears.
