The feline didn't do what she asked, instead she bared her glimmering fangs. Hmph. Plain old teeth without any color. Lame! Real queens had pink fangs, like hers. It was a sign of royalty in her eyes. Who cared if all of her fangs were colored that way? They were clear and thus held no real value to them... unless... "Since ya wanna be difficult an' not give me the feather, I'll think I'll take one a' your teeth too as a prize after I kill ya." The tiny queen grinned sweetly at the cat as she unabashedly studied those fangs.

For a moment the pair were in a stasis as the cat's fangs flashed. Oh ho! Now she really wanted one! Diamondfang leaped back, still on her rear legs as the fur along her spine straightened defensively. Her head lowered and she bared her teeth at the cat. "'An I'm sorry your 'All Mother' is nothin' but rhino shit!" With that the queen lunged with her spear coated in deadly poison. All it would take was a bit of blood to be drawn and she would be able to severely cripple the cat right from the start. If that happened all she would have to do was wait and wear her down slowly as the poison took effect. Just one stab. There was no way this furball would win.

The mongoose lunged and she scrambled to get out of the way, the spear grazing her side but not quite drawing blood-- though it did tug out a bit of curly, twisty fur. Dovefeather hissed, wondering why she was fighting with that strange tool instead of her own claws. She crouched down into the grass, feeling the All Mother all around her. There were trees to hide behind, roots to trip her opponent over-- everything flashed through her mind.

She had outs... But first, she had to try and fight back. If she backed down now, she risked drawing Fang deeper into the forest, closer to the All Mother and the Eyes. It was too dangerous.

"You only have eyes for material possessions,"

The warning came out in a low growl as she prowled, waiting for the right moment to strike. She tried to inch around Fang, looking for an opening.

"Your greed blinds you from the truth!"

The feline yowled, a guttural battle cry, as she lunged towards the mongoose with her claws unsheathed. She had to knock that spear out of her paws-- she weighed more than Fang, she could take her down like a piece of prey... But that spear. She didn't like how it shimmered in the light, and she certainly wouldn't liked being stabbed with it.

She lunged and the spear snagged the cat's coat, pulling out fur but there was no blood drawn. She'd have to try again. There was no way to get poison in without access to that precious life blood of hers. The mongoose circled with the cat, eyes locked onto her in case the feline let her guard down. "'A course, Dovvie, a thief's gotta have a sharp eye on the prize but I don't expect you to know nothin' 'bout that." She couldn't get too cocky, that cat was larger than her and could easily pin her to the earth. Those claws were dangerous and sharp as well as those gem fangs. It would be best to attack with ranged attacks rather than getting in and close... but then again when did she ever want to get in close and fight fair?

Then, the cat lunged towards her. With the speed and ferocity of the attack Fang couldn't scramble away fast enough... A negative to walking on her rear legs was she traded in her speed. The spear was knocked from her grasp and it clattered a few feet away, currently out of reach. The mongoose fell to the earth with the cat atop her. Now in a distinct disadvantage the mongoose could feel panic rising in her gut. The cat was bigger, it could bite her throat and kill her! The mongoose's silver eyes narrowed as her fangs bared at the feline. "Get offa me!" She snarled. The mongoose scratched her rear claws at the cat while she aimed a bite at one of those paws, channeling a new move that she never had before.

Dovefeather managed to throw the mongoose to the ground, her claws sinking into fluffy red fur. Fang thrashed under her, and for a moment, Dovefeather was torn between trying to snap her neck or doing no harm. A conflict squirmed in her mind and she hesitated, just long enough for Fang's teeth to snap down on her paw.

With a yowl, she tried to pull away from the mongoose. A moment of conscious honor filled her-- she did not want to kill Fang. There was something innately wrong in taking the life of another. It was an act she was not ready to perform.

"You're a fool!"

Her paw hurt worse than she ever thought it could as she stumbled back, pressing her pads into her belly, trying to fight off the pain. She bared her teeth at Fang and tried to send a flare of light at her. If she could just blind her, then she could work out a plan.

All Mother, protect me, the thought breathed through her mind as she felt a sickness swelling through her body. Something was wrong, but she couldn't quite tell what.

She felt her fangs sink into sensitive flesh and she felt satisfaction course through her as she tasted the blood in her mouth. The cat stumbled backwards, holding her paw to her belly while Fang rose to her footpaws. The thief hissed at the cat, eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. "No! You are! You shoulda just gave me the feather, ya idiot! Then ya wouldn't be about to die!" The mongoose glanced back briefly and located her spear but before she could dash towards it there was a blinding flash. Diamondfang cried out in pain as her paws flew up to her eyes and she stumbled backwards as she pawed at them, trying to get her sight back.

As luck would have it she stumbled backwards and tripped right over her spear, landing flat on her back. For a moment she wondered why the cat was not upon her again but she couldn't chance her luck. Perhaps this stupid All Mother was watching and didn't give a dog's ass about this "sister". Huh. That was good for her. Her vision was starting to clear so she reached out with one paw and grasped her spear. The queen forced her eyes open and through the blinding blinding dots in her vision she drew back her paw and threw her spear at the cat... or where she hoped the cat was. Maybe look would be on her side again.

The All Mother had only one answer for Dovefeather.

Light flooded her vision, a kaleidoscope of blindingly sharp colors. She could see every single color in that instance, and her body started to shake. She stumbled back, Fang's words echoed distantly, distorting in her ears. She could feel the grass growing up into vines, twisting into her legs and up her fur. She couldn't see-- not truly, her vision was swarming with hundreds of fireflies.

One vine lashed up around her shoulder, cutting deep. She didn't scream, in fact, she couldn't. Her mouth frothed, her body convulsing, as she felt her grip on reality slip. What was the All Mother doing? Was she wrapping her up in vines... to protect her? Or was she trying to get her killed?

Dovefeather did not understand. She fell to her belly, pressing together into a tight ball, pushing her chin into her chest. Her teeth ground together as she tried desperately to break free from the All Mother's vision. Now was not the time. She was going to die if she didn't fight back.

O All Mother, her mind swarmed with words, don't let me die. All Mother, please!

He had been wandering Eridanus, lost, thinking kind thoughts of Dovefeather and meeting her recently. Just thinking of her sweet curving form and her big eyes that reflected everything good int he world directed his feet with no purpose, but he walked much better than before - he hardly ran into anything now, even with his blindfold on. She was his angel, his purpose, something he always thought of but always had to stay away from.

Female sounds brought him out of his thoughts, and his fur bristled, his legs prepared to run on reflex - but he recognized one of them. Was that- was that Dove? Who was she calling a fool? And who was saying she was going to die?

Blind panic set into his bones, and he ran towards the sound, the cloth over his eyes coming up in the motion, showing him peaks of grass, allowing him to run faster. "Dove? Dove what's going on?" He cried frantically, stumbling here and there. He heard Dove's shallow breathing and something else near her, and he snarled.

"Get away from her!" Blindly he jumped, claws extended, but he only hit empty air, tumbling to the ground. He shook it off, getting back up. "Get back, or I'll rip you to shreds!"

She couldn't tell if her spear had hit, not yet, her eyes were still swimming with those blinding spots. The thief hissed with annoyance, paws scratching at her eyes. It seemed like an eternity but her vision finally came back. That stupid cat! She could have been blinded for good! The tiny queen hissed as she turned her eyes to the feline only to find her on the ground, writhing with a foaming mouth. Ah, it seemed her spear had done its work and that her blind throw had been a good one. The mongoose gave a sadistic life as she stood up and sauntered over to the cat. The spear she retrieved and with it she wiped the blood on the earth contemptuously. Well, this had been ridiculously easy... Almost too easy but who cared? So long as she got her tooth and feather.

She tucked the poisoned spear back into her vine belt and then retrieved her dagger. No need to drag this on. It was time to finish this feline off. The vixen gave a sweet smile as she paced over to the cat, the dagger was drawn and she raised it up, prepared to sink it into the cat's side to finish her off. "Well, this was fun but I think I'll be takin' my prizes now. See ya in th'next life, kitty-cat!" And she swung the dagger, sinking it into the cat's side...

Or she would have if something else didn't happen at that point.

"Get away from her!"

A male's voice yelled. On reflex the mongoose looked and saw a hyena... a very familiar hyena... charging at her. With a hiss she stepped to the side and let him charge past. Was that a blindfold on his face? Was a blind hyena trying to fight her? The mongoose laughed and switched her dagger out for the spear. "Shoulda stayed out 'a this, buddy boy!" Then she threw the spear in hopes of stabbing, wounding, and poisoning him just like the cat.

Her body was shaking and it wasn't from bees. She couldn't stop shaking either. The ground was a mix of vines tightening around her paws and mud that she was slowly sinking in, but she still couldn't see anything past the rainbow of colors flooding her eyes. Perhaps she was dying. The All Mother could be taking her back into the earth.

But Dovefeather didn't want to die. It was pure determination that kept her spirit fighting, and as she felt and heard a distant Fang wobbling and mumbling somehow beside her. A shout tore through her ears and she thought of Basil coming to her rescue.

That was just a fantasy, though. He was blindfolded, probably miles away. She wondered if he would even find her body, or if her sisters would-- would Basil ever know why she disappeared from the Eyes? A strangled growl gargled in her throat as she heard Diamondfang just a bit clearer beside her. She blinked, a blurry red shape just in front of her.

It was either her life or Fang's. She tore her paws from the entangled mess she had made up in her fever dreams and lashed out with claw and tooth towards Fang... Or at least thought she did.

He had hit empty air, and he snapped his head towards the sound of a very familiar voice, a voice that echoed to him from cycles past, but before he place it, something sharp dug into his skin and pushed him back to the ground and he screamed, his shoulder burning and searing with pain that leeched into his blood, burning all along the way. He gasped, and for a second, nothing existed but the empty black void and the pain in his shoulder.

Basil snapped out of it when he heard the hissing female voice cry out in pain, and with an effort, he grabbed the spear with his mouth and yanked it out, muffling another scream, and threw it as far away as he possibly could. With the motion, his head swam, and if he could see, it would temporarily have blacked out.

But he shook it off. Dove needed him. He pinpointed the stranger's scream and ran as fast as he could towards it, prepared to lash out at it, teeth bared.
