Some hours later, Cayenne had long since drifted off to sleep, letting the fire die down. The soft breathing of everyone sleeping in the wolf's den created a hushing lullaby that Basil woke up to. He was still incredibly groggy as he woke up, so he didn't question the fact that he could see. With his eyes half open, he looked at Dove sleeping across the way, and watched her side rise up and down as she slept, and he was at peace.
The demon in him took over with no fight, gently pushing Basil aside. They were both in agreement in this one thing, and no words were exchanged. He grabbed the blindfold that had been taken off by the healer, and with awkward, pain-filled steps, the two of them left as silently as they possibly could.
Neither of them would put Dove in danger, at least not after what had just happened. That, they could both understand.
