He was warm and comfortable, he had never lacked for anything. Never hungry, never thirsty, never tired and never lonely. Well of course the loneliness was debateable, he knew nothing but his own existence and so he could not desire the presence of others. His ears flicked, not able to move much in the cramped space. Fear seeped into the large yellow gem, the creature it held, the young deer-like creature was scared. His gem chrysalis had cracked, a cold breeze was seeping in, bringing with it fear of an end his peaceful and content existence. He did not know what would happen once the yellow gem broke open and he was not sure he wanted to know, this had been his entire life.

The crack that had formed was spreading, spreading across the entire crystal palace until it had spread enough to shatter. The small deer rolled from his safe haven onto a damp wet ground, his eyes still closed and his heart beating in his ears. This was the hardest the little organ had had to work in his entire life. With a shiver his eyes opened, everything around him was blurry and fear struck at him again. There was no one to greet his entrance into the world. A few more moments of blinking and he could see the world around him. Dim flickering lights above illuminated a small concentration of water in front of him.

Curiosity grabbed him and with shaky wobbly legs he tried to stand, he fell with the first attempt but with hard-headed determination he tried again. Wobbly steps carried him to the water. The first thing he saw was his appearance, an uncrowned head stared back at him from the water, his yellow gem glittering. As he moved his head he could see the first bit of his soon to be beautiful antlers budding. His head cocked to the side in curiosity at his appearance yet the more he stared into the reflective liquid the more he realised there was something else there. The focus of his eyes changed and he watched as small glittering creatures darted across the water, forwards and backwards. Running from him everytime they moved. What the hell was going on?

Nox could move faster now! the tiny claws that poked from her sides had grown into paws, and then into short, corgi-like front limbs. They weren't exactly functional yet, true, but the little slug had certainly been able to get around. Her limbs flapping this way and that and her body wriggling itself forward, the little one made for quite the comedic sight as she made her adventurous way forth, seeking out new places and new friends. As she moved, her maw was open wide and the eye within glowed bright, scanning and searching.

Soon, she ended up in Pisces again- the waterfall room. That was good, she liked it here! She wondered if her friend Xin would be here again to see her. She liked him, because they'd played together. She'd be able to play even better now!

Slipping and sliding along on a slick coating of slime, the little slug soon noticed something new... A creature stood at the water's edge, and Nox had never seen them before. A new friend! she flapped her rubbery limbs ever more determined as her tail whipped back and forth, the slithering and wagging motion of her entire body propelling herself forward.

The closer she got, the more Nox realized that this creature was a lot bigger than her. Much taller, and with big legs! Nox got excited; was that what her legs would look like some day? She wanted to be that tall, too!

Her jaws closing and hiding her eye from view, Nox sucked in her breath and a gurgling sound echoed in her throat. She paused a few metres away from the other being. Hugs would come later. She wanted to see the entirety of them for now!

"H-hollo, f... fwiend!" she blurted out excitedly. By this point, she knew the language, but due to the obstruction in her throat, still found it difficult to talk. It made her eye feel funny, too. Speaking of her eye, her mouth remained wide open as she stared right at them, waiting for a response.

The creature that approached him confused him, perhaps if he had been more accustomed to what things were supposed to look like he would be afraid of the dark and slimy creature. His head cocked to the side, eyes wide with curiosity as he stared at the black slimy creature. He leaned forward, his head almost entering the creature's mouth as he examined the red gem encasing the eye. The words that exited the creature's maw and the movement of the jaw startled him and he jumped back, falling backwards onto his rump. His eyes wide with fear, this thing that moved and made sound. What was this? He was curious yes, but he was also scared, he pined for the warmth of his gem encasing that lay scattered on the ground behind him.

He sat on his rump, long legs bent at strange angles as he stared at the creature, trying to understand what these strange words were. The sounds were similar to things he had heard while in his crystal, perhaps this was... a way to telling others what one thought. He had a good understanding of the language from what he had heard in the crystal yet... he had never tried to form the words. He wiggled his jaw, his teeth grinding against each other as he did so. A frown crossed his face, still on his rump he tested the movements of his jaw.

A noise croaked from his throat and he grinned at the creature in triumph, it was an unidentifiable noise, yet a noise none-the-less. "I" he croaked again, this time the noise sound a bit more coherant yet it was not exactly what he wanted to come from his maw, rather he had aimed for hi, but I should suffice. The concentration that was clear on his face disappeared as he stared at her expectantly.

@Equinox

Nox tilted her head to one side curiously as the creature jumped away from her and fell onto their butt. What were they doing? Was it because of her? A sudden wave of bashfulness swept over, and she covered her mouth with her newly-formed paws. She didn't wanna scare people! As she hid, though, she heard the sound that had emerged from the other creature's throat, and peered nervously through her fingers. They were sitting, and looking at her... and then they made a noise!

Not much of their voice was revealed, but it was enough. A wave of excitement swept over her, and she wriggled around on the ground, waving her paws. "I, No... Nooorx!" she struggled to say what she was, a name she'd proudly come up with. All by herself! Almost. Although she did struggle to pronounce it, the name emerging as a sort of low growl that ended in a hiss.

"F-fwiend... riiight?" she tilted her head questioningly, her gaze quickly carried to the shattered chrysalis behind them. Wow! what a lot of pretty rocks! The little one had never seen a shattered chrysalis before; her own life had begun at the bottom of Cetus' murky swamp, where all she could do was search for the surface. She hadn't known where she'd come from or that she'd oozed out of a small orb of diamond. All she knew was that she was born from sheer darkness and slime. Maybe she was that swamp. she didn't know what she was.

Either way, the little one wriggled her way forward and picked up a shard of chrysalis in her paw, offering it to the fawn standing over her.

The creature's words were as well formed as his, perhaps a tad better. He smiled, leaning forward to try and stand up once more. His attempts earlier to stand up had been somewhat pathetic, his wobbly walk earlier had not been the most impressive either. Following his earlier attempts, his lean forward went a bit too far and he landed on his face with a high-pitched noise of pain. With his eyes watering he let his neck rest on the ground, his eyes still locked on Equinox. With a humph and great difficulty he manoeuvred his legs so that they were almost at a standing position. His rump lifted first, his legs wobbling below his butt as he attempted to push the rest of himself upwards with his front legs. As his body lifted his head hung low, making sure he had his balance first before lifting his head. He kept his head low, on par with Equinox's.

"N-o-x" he said, testing the letters and their pronunciation. "Nox!" he squealed, smiling at the oil creature and to himself. His little tuft of a tail wagged and he almost lost balance. A quick struggle gave the balance back to him; legs tapping to the ground as if he were dancing. Eventually, with legs splayed wide he found his balance.

He nodded at Nox at her request of him been a friend, as if to confirm he was. He knew her calling and now another dilemma prodded at him. Who was he?

Nox excitedly wriggled her claws, ripples of goosebumps riding down her spine. The little slug couldn't imagine how standing on actual legs would feel. True, she had small paws and short forearms already, but it wasn't enough to stand. Standing must be hard! She opened her eye and watched the other one closely. They were doing it! They were getting up...!

They seemed to be doing just fine.

And then... thud. Now they weren't! they were on the ground! Nox hurried forward, plopping her own face down on the ground and staring at them. A little peep emerged from her throat. But that didn't last long. Soon they were looming up over her again. So high! And then they said her name! That was her name! She nodded, closing her beaky jaws for a moment before opening them to give a shrill squeal of encouragement.

And then they were up on their feet! More goosebumps! Little spikes appearing and disappearing all over her, like a mammal's fur puffing out.

she waved her tiny arms around, excitedly. "Yoouu d-d-di' it-t!" she cried encouragingly.

He smiled at Nox, his little fawn tail wagging exaggeratedly, his legs spread wide to keep his balance. He was still plagued with the question about who he was, he glanced at the pond, a gentle voice filtering into his mind. A memory truly yet it felt almost real; Soren. The word was one he had heard a lot while in his chrysalis yet he had never truly figured out what it meant. Perhaps it meant him? He stared at the pond, frowning as he thought about the possibility. Perhaps he was quiet for a bit too long but he turned back to Nox with a smile.

"S-ore-en" he said slowly, the long word understood yet his muscles were not used to saying it. "M-ee" he continued, pronouncing each letter. He smiled, glancing down at his legs. He had so much that he wanted to say yet it would end in a truly long conversation. The two of them were not very gifted in speech just yet, perhaps one day. He stared at Nox, not quite sure what to do. He wanted to speak more but he needed to practice by himself before he could truly hold a conversation.

@Equinox

Little Nox listened patiently to the word as they told her their name, bit by struggled bit. Her eye was bright and wide, and she didn't seem to tire, patiently waiting. Then she gave an enthusiastic nod. "Yooouuu... Sss... s-Soooo-ren?" she struggled, a whistling sound catching on her beak. The tip of her tail jerked back and forth with her happiness, and she bobbed her head in another big nod.

Once again, Equinox picked up a fragment of their chrysalis, and began to squirm towards them, holding out the crystal shard that she didn't realize had come from their former home. The little creature thought it was very pretty, so she held it out to them as if as a token of her friendship. She liked them, and wanted to give them this pretty thing she'd found.

"'L-like dis... S-s'ren have it." she told him, dropping it at the other one's hooves, and wriggling back to pick up some more. She held one in each paw and brought them back, grinning. She was clearly very pleased with herself.

Soren chuckled at the creature's actions, it was bringing him pieces of his old home. When she brought the next peice he motioned for her to stop with a smiled he bent his head low to the ground, pushing the shards back towards Nox. He stood up, letting her see the yellow on his chest before lowering his head again. "Rem-ba" he said simply, asking her to keep them instead, to remember him. He already had a piece of the yellow shards, stuck to him. His tail and ears flicked away an insect as he stepped back from the shards. With wobbly legs he turned to pick up another shard, the biggest shard. The weight was unexpected and he struggled as he picked it up, holding it above his head as he wobbled back over to the pile. He dropped it above the pile, it cracked in half, crushing the smaller shards below it. He looked at the pile, stunned.

He nudged the gem dust with one of his hooves. The dust stuck to him and he lifted his hoof, studying the glitter. He stretched his hoof out and gently dabbed the top of Nox's head with the gemstone glitter and he giggled. Motioning to the pool that she should look at the yellow glitter on her head.

Nox hadn't noticed the glittering gem on the fawn's chest before now. But as soon as she did, she was completely entranced; the little slug gazed at it for a while, and compared it to the glittering shard she held. At their word, she gave a very enthusiastic nod, and clutched the shard to her chest. It'd make moving slow again, but it wasn't like her limbs had any other use at the moment.

She watched patiently as the fawn made their way over to the other shards and began to sift their way through them. A loud crash scared her, causing her skin to take on the appearance of spikes, with only the spines on her neck and back being very real. That didn't last long though; within moments she'd realized what it was, her spines had smoothed, and her skin was no longer rough but smooth and slimy.

boop!

The other one tapped the top of her head with their hoof, and Equinox grinned inanely, although she was very confused. in response to their motions, she wriggled towards the nearest pond and peered in. She admired her reflection, opening her jaws wide and tilting her head this way and that. So sparkly! She liked that dust, it was so pretty! The little one wondered if there was any other way she could make herself look pretty. Next time, she'd put a flower on her head!
