Reign was right. Scorch needed to not panic. Panicking would only slow them down. He took several deep breaths, remembering the sound of the cheetah cub's purr. A rough tongue flicked across his downy feathers, and Scorch blinked with surprise. It tickled.
The fawn seemed to be scared of them, ducking behind the tower and only hesitantly stepping toward them. Scorch wanted to hoot to it, tell it that it would be fine, but he was too afraid of scaring it. Reign was talking, though. And Scorch thought he was doing a good job sounding very not-frightening. Maybe he should try too?
"Yeah, see, Reign and I are friendly people. We promise not to do anything bad," he said, doing his best to keep his voice gentle and reassuring. He wasn't sure how that went, though. Scorch ... was not the calm leader type that Reign was.

The fawn seemed trusting enough, perhaps alone so long that it was starved for contact. It stepped cautiously forward to meet Reign, and quickly began to sniff over the cheetah's pelt, seeking mother's milk that was not there. It settled for trying to suck on his ear instead, insistent and now unafraid, though the hind leg hung unused in the air. It appeared to be hanging at an angle; it was unlikely that this fawn could survive on its own.

Scorch cooed softly as the fawn stepped closer and started sucking on Reign's ear. He wasn't sure what it was trying to do - surely Reign couldn't be that tasty, especially to an herbivore? - but it was adorable nonetheless. But its leg didn't look normal to him - he had only two legs, but Reign had four like the fawn and Reign didn't hold a leg like that.
Ah, yes. Reign had confirmed it - the leg was injured. There was something he didn't understand, though.
"A mother? Why does it need a mother? Can't it eat plants on its own?"
@Reign
The young deer continued to follow, trying its best to 'drink' out of an ear. At length, it seemed to realize nothing was going to reward it, there, and instead it turned to nosing along the rocks, as if browsing for grass that wasn't there.

Scorch stared at Reign for a moment, processing what the cheetah was saying.
"Guide it? To what?" Food, maybe? But why couldn't he and Reign guide it to food? That didn't seem very difficult to him. And how would taking deep breaths help things? Completely confused, Scorch settled for standing awkwardly and watching while Reign did whatever it was that he was doing.\

The fawn hobbled a few steps, unsteadily, then collapsed with a sad bleat. It seemed unable to walk all that far, probably due to its injured hind leg--yet its cry wasn't one of pain so much as a pleading sound.
