It was another regular day. At least, what Mayfal's body perceived as a day. And at that time, Mayfal's body was hungry.
They were mucking around trying to hunt with varied luck. They'd caught a mouse but it wasn't very big so they were trying again for something a little more filling. In the middle of their search, they heard a heavy footfall. Mayfal immediately hid themself. As the sound got closer, there was a smell that Mayfal knew well: the smell of one Comet. She must be coming to check up on them.
Mayfal quietly followed behind her. She must have been going to the house, as they could feel the smooth, beaten path beneath their paws.
When Comet stopped, so did Mayfal. She called out for them, proclaiming her presence. Mayfal had to hold back a giggle when she did that.
Then, after a couple moments, they yelled out "COMET!" and pounced onto her, laughing.
@Comet
Mayfal knew that Comet didn't dodge on purpose. From how sparring went last time, she totally could have. But they were glad that she let the tackle happen.
Comet sounded like they were ready to leave as soon as she knew Mayfal was alright. It was embarrassing to admit, but they didn't want her to leave so soon. They came up with an excuse.
"Well, hunting's still a little tricky. I only had a small mouse before you got here." It sounded pitiful even without trying.
Maybe Comet would help with their hunt. And maybe stay a little while after that to eat with them. That would be nice.
@Comet
Comet's ever-warm tail felt comforting on Mayfal's paw. They wouldn't mind holding it again, but they should probably keep learning how to navigate on their own.
"I'll be okay. I can follow you by smell and sound!" Their excitement about hunting with Comet was starting to show. Their ears and tail were perked up, their chin raised high, and their voice was lighter than usual.
"Lead the way!" They were ready to keep hunting.
@Comet
Mayfal followed Comet's blatantly loud footsteps until they halted. There was prey nearby. They could smell it, too. They did as Comet instructed and followed the trail of this scent closely.
This scent led to the sound of a small animal chewing on plants. Those plants were about to be it's last meal because Mayfal was getting into position to strike.
@Comet
This part of the hunt was always the most thrilling to Mayfal. Knowing that their technique had worked, even with their disability, always gave them a boost of energy.
They heard where the creature was. They could smell a general direction as well. And there was a small spot of heat that their head could follow.
They pounced!
...Which made enough noise to alert the small creature. It was too late for it, though. They moved forward a small ways, but Mayfal's teeth sunk into its flesh. They had to bite into it again since it was still struggling, but it's pulse weakened to a stop. Mayfal was proud of themself!
