Appearance

As a gryphon Amras is a fairly unusual species for the caves. His bird-like front half sports brilliant shimmering royal blue down feathers, which fade almost seamlessly to similarly soft blue fur as it runs down his body. Oddly, aside from on his wings, he does not have the upper layer of feathers that would usually help protect him from the cold. His talon-like claws are strong and flexible like a humanoid hand and the actual monstrous feathers of his wings are a lighter shade of blue. His lion-like tail is long, with a tuft of long hair at the end the same color as his wing feathers. His back paws are larger than a typical lion's paws and his legs in general seem to be much stronger than a typical quadruped’s. His overall size reflects that of a similarly aged lion, though perhaps a little smaller and about as light as a creature half his size. His actual strength is what would be expected of his stature, with extra strength in his wings to facilitate flight.

This adaptation is due to another oddity about the gryphon. Depending on how he holds his wings while resting on the ground he is capable of keeping a center of balance either on all four limbs or just on his back two. With wings folded nicely at his side and resting on all four legs he is capable of running at faster speeds with less focus and is able to take to the air rather quickly. When resting his wings behind him his center of balance allows him to maneuver on two legs, freeing his talons up to manipulate objects and allowing greater omnidirectional maneuverability. Despite the lessened speed and slightly lessened stability as he gets older Amras will likely spend more time on two legs than four, especially as unlike most of the residents of the cave he requires his talons for casting spells.

Amras's stone is a triangular rod of milky quartz running down the length of his right forearm. Like many gembounds it actively shows signs of magic when it is being cast; glowing in various colors depending on what type of magic he casts.

Personality

First and foremost Amras is completely enthralled by magic and will try to use it at every available opportunity. A little too dark? He likely to go around casting glows of different color on just about every rock in sight until it looks like a party. A little cold? At the very mention he will summon blaze from his very being to create a campfire. Need a place to stay for a bit? Just ask and he will bring the powers of energy magic to bear and dispel rubble into the wall until it becomes a divot. Give him a few days and you’ll have a den worthy of taking up residence in.

For the most part the gryphon is very courteous, very willing to help those around him. He is not, however, the type of person to take any kind of abuse. If he feels he has been wronged or underappreciated for his efforts he will respond in kind, bluntly at first but if the behavior continues his revenge becomes colder. Even cycles down the line he will remember a slight, and if not corrected he will subtly manipulate events until he feels the debt has been paid. After that point is reached, though all grudges are dropped and he goes back to being courteous, though perhaps less helpful, to that individual.

Amras also has a bit of a competitive streak. He’s not really out to prove himself the best, or even use competition to improve his or his opponent's skills. He just likes the thrill of facing off against another, and even more so if there are actual stakes involved. Sure the stakes may be as simple as a weird looking rock or rights to a title for a day, but a victory is a victory. Despite his tendency to hold shallow grudges Amras is actually a gracious winner and a respectful loser; to be otherwise would dissuade further competition after all. If the opponent blatantly cheats then it is, for the most part, not seen as an infraction but a change of rules or a shift in the metagame that needs to be matched by equal strategy.
