Appearance

Like any other of his species, Fahl emerges from his chrysalis a mere sliver of what he’ll grow into. Flattened and whiplike, his tail makes up almost as much of his 0.6 meters of length as the rest of him. In coloration, he is nothing particularly eye-catching: his black scales are markless except for a faint gray dorsal stripe. The spines running down his neck and tail are so small that they appear more like bumps. Although long of body, his stubby legs render him awkward on land in exchange for superiority in the water. Murky brown eyes are set into his broad face.

As an adult, he would be best described as a bulky beast, being thick of limb as well as body. From snout to tail tip, he is now 1.6 meters. Copper red mottles his legs and belly before eventually spreading further up to mingle more with the existing dark background. At the top of his head, the scales have developed into points. His spines have lengthened, jutting out with the same wicked curve his claws possess.

Nestled at the center of his tongue is a domed piece of white jadeite. Due to its placement, speech proves a difficulty, often requiring great effort to talk around the offending stone without garbling enunciation. In addition, the tongue’s movements are hindered by the weight upon it.

As of the thread spawn camping, rainbow titanium dye covers the top of Fahl's head as an attempted protective measure.

Mutations:
Already one that grapples with maintaining composure for the sake of a desired image, the Black City quest has left Fahl with his heart on full display in the form of rubbery color-shifting scales. What'd once been black and red now refuses to remain stable, altering shades and hues in conjunction with changing moods and temperatures, and only a conscious exertion of will can bring order to the chaos. Long and flowing fins extend from his tail as well.

The events of A New Leaf have left their own, more arboreal mark upon him. Parts of hide—at his throat and neck, down his back and tail—have developed into thorns, providing him some defense from overhead and up front attacks.

Personality

Insecurity resides at the root of this Gembound’s being, mainly stemming from resentment over how he may be perceived by others. He is convinced that his slow and deliberate manner of speaking causes him to appear exceptionally dim-witted. In reality, his intelligence can be considered average. Unfortunately, to compensate for his lack of eloquence, Fahl strives to prove his worth through bold actions. The flashier or more significant they are, the greater appreciation he hopes to garner.

Impatience supplements his tendency to pursue risk. Whenever an opportunity to gain attention doesn’t go as quickly as he wishes, he pounces onto the next available one which shows promise. It isn’t unheard of for him to latch onto other Gembound while following his goals, promptly dropping them as soon as they are no longer of immediate use to him.

The only exception to his fleeting loyalty is when he finds himself under an obligation to another. Repaying life debts, taking responsibility for harmful past mistakes, or overseeing someone that has been put in his charge are a few examples. To not handle these with the careful attention they deserve reflects badly on his own character. Therefore, during such instances, he’ll channel all his energy into fulfilling them. If only that dedication carried to other aspects of his life.

As a result of his stone, Fahl often speaks with a monotone. He has to actively try to speak with inflection, but usually doesn't since he's too impatient. Misunderstandings might arise due to this.

Use of a feathershard has granted Fahl the ability to conjure a rift to a secret location in the caves. Access is limited to himself unless he grants it to others. Full details here.

RELATIONSHIPS

Imp- Fahl thinks of him as his teacher. Due to the (questionable) knowledge, life skills, and praise received as a hatchling, he's developed a sort of odd devotion toward him.

Comet- Fellow fisher. Her way of thinking confuses him, but he does not deny her skill.

Stormy- Was there when she first hatched. They're on friendly terms, and Fahl seems to delight in sharing experiences with the gentle wanderer despite his initial apprehension.
