Appearance

Despite hatching from a rather beautiful rainbow crystal Zeno himself is a fairly plain fruit bat. Thick brown fur covers his small body, almost the same shade as his brown eyes. His dark wings, while strong and functional, are a dull matte black. Given the abundance of plant life in the cave Zeno is almost never too far from a meal, and thus is built strong for someone his size. His tendency to constantly travel and explore has left no room for these excess calories to go to waste and accumulate on him; flying takes a lot more work than just walking everywhere. One thing he doesn’t appear to have is a gemstone of his own, a fact that the small bat is acutely aware of.

Zeno’s demeanor is a friendly one… though at times perhaps a little too friendly. In general he is respectful, but he has an apparent awe of the beautiful gemstones that other creatures in the caves seem to sport and can sometimes forget what personal space is. He speaks with a soft accent, with wording that tends to fall on the passive side but never allowing himself to fully fall into a self-defeating tone.

In the absence of a gemstone Zeno does his best to keep his appearance clean and neat, or at least as neat as he can be given his diet heavily relying on juicy fruit.

He who lives in harmony with himself lives in harmony with the universe

Having no gem may be a bit of a disappointment to the bat, but it has only prompted him to look to other things to find his place in the world. Zeno is steadfast in his pursuit to gain as much knowledge of the caves and mastery over his own mind as he can, leading to a rich and eclectic lifestyle. If he isn’t exploring undiscovered parts of the cave he is likely to be researching what mysteries he can dig up in the areas he’s already searched. If he isn’t off in his own corner of Orion studying ruins he’s getting to know other gembounds to learn their history and admire their gems. If he’s fatigued and on his own it is not uncommon to find him resting completely still as he meditates and digests all the information gathered that day. While his thirst for knowledge and self-mastery may have been prompted by feelings of inferiority it has sparked a fire that burns brightly on its own.

Zeno also possesses a curious innate skill in magic that he can’t quite explain. Every once in a while feelings of life and energy will swell up in his chest and create flickers of light around him, especially when he’s describing something that has sparked his interest. Rarely, when the feelings are particularly strong, these lights will coalesce into a ghostly figure of whatever it is he’s describing. It is unknown at this time if he will explore this strange phenomenon, delving into the mysteries of magic, or if he will leave such a path by the wayside and focus on complete mastery of his art without the help of this odd power.
