HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Welcome to 2023! We're living in the future, baby! And with the fresh spate of heavy activity on the site, we have a lot to announce!
First off, The Cave Stories have completed another chapter: The Creator's Test has come to a finale with the release of the new non-elemental spell Leech. Leech is a pretty cool spell that can be used to draw in energy from other sources--and weaken them in the process. Got any magic stones you really hate? Get rid of that pesky lingering life with a good cast of Leech, and vampirically empower your own magicka for a little while in the process! A zero calorie boost!
On a related note, Lacerta is completely open now, with two more powerful Lesser Gembounds yet to be encountered. If you'd like your character to be the first to discover a Squallfang or an Azhdar, head on over to the dino island and GM tag for your search! The Lacerta quest Life Finds A Way also opened the spell Stellar Flare, a high-intensity Energy spell for all your glowing laser breath needs.
The 2022 Holiday Event, The Giftening, is still ongoing! Plenty of Gembound have exchanged gifts--and then been given something special by our resident holiday expert, Naskital. This thread is still open until mid-January, though IC it takes place in December, so any characters hatched by that time are still free to join via liquid time!
Upcoming we have a great deal of activity! First, the Order Versus Chaos event kicks off soon--and while there'll be a very large, clearly laid-out info post for that, we do have some information to share with you now. First off: we can tell you a little about the layout of the event. There will be three factions--Order, Chaos, and Neutral. Order will be attempting to take over several caves, with the forces of Chaos tasked with defending and pushing back. These strategic maneuvers, scouting, battles etc. will each be their own mini-event, with an overall score tally being kept! The Neutral faction--with a character not yet revealed--will be attempting to gather and provide shelter and supplies to refugees who want to avoid the fighting. This 'faction' will have its own secret to share with those who either help them or take shelter among them... Second up: character deaths won't be forced, but will be rewarded! If your character kicks the bucket in battle, you have the option to have their stone recovered and revived by the NPC leading your faction's charge--or you can allow the other side to take the stone, reviving it to their own ends. (NPC revives will be guaranteed, but you're free to leave the gemstones to fate and other characters if you like!) Most of the raffled Drones are now in player hands, and just about ready to hatch, so keep your eyes open for those Clearstones cracking open...
In other future news, also keep an eye out for the reveal of a new NPC or two, along with more upcoming Cave Stories to feature Pegasus, Orion and more, along with revealing new spells for those who take part!
Congratulations to our January OTM winners, some of whom accidentally but very fittingly follow the Order vs Chaos theme: Manticore, the hapless would-be Chaos dragon-lion-Valkhound, for Character of the Month; Ananke and Elysium, Mother's zealous converted Host and fresh-out-of-the-chrysalis valkyrie Drone for Pair of the Month; the exchange of kindness and generosity between Gembound in 'THE GIFTENING (Holiday Event 2022) ' as Thread of the Month; and as our Member of the Month, the dedicated and beloved Nemesis, who has now added Order Drone Ace (Zero-One-Zero Skyreaver) to their roster alongside such classics as Fahl, Karambit, Halcyon and East!
