One of the smaller pools tucked farther away from the great crashing waterfall lays almost completely still. The only movement in the murky water are the small grey fish, no bigger than minnows, darting back and forth. Lodged into the rocky bottom is a deep blue stone half submerged half sticking out of the water.

Inside the jagged chrysalis is warm and cramped. The small body, laying as curled as possible, just touches the edges of consciousness as they press against the sides. Without being completely aware the body twitches and pushes against the stone walls. Slowly thoughts began to form with awareness being just out of reach. The first half formed thought was that of warmth. Then came the need to leave it, to be outside the walls that curl so close around the body that it can't even be sure that the stone isn't actually just apart of it. A back arches against the wall while pushing against the other side, and a small head is planted firmly against the top. Finally with the slap of a small tail the chrysalis cracks and begins to fall to pieces. Small and covered in thick lightly colored downy fur the pup nearly tumbles out of its shelter.

When it lands in cold water awareness is immediate and almost shocking. Black eyes shoot open fast enough that everything is a bright blur that gradually takes shape. Cold and the sound of rushing water are the first things that she knows. As everything seems to settle into place the next thing she knows is that she is Fiona, and that the world seems to very big while she feels so very small. For a short time that feels impossible to measure she sits in the water that comes just below her neck and seeps though soft fur to chill her skin.

Soon enough a need to move pushes Fiona to slap the ground with her flippers, dragging short new claws against the rock, and start wiggle trying to push herself to the edge of the pool. Small flippers pulled at the edge of the pool with her tail thumping in the water behind her scattering the small fish to the far corner.
