Sigurd
The Shadow in the Dark
The young wolf had been making his way through Cephus where he had met his moose friend. He was fun and they had played tag for so long. He couldn’t remember ever having as much fun as he had racing across the green lawns of Cephus with his friend hot on his heels. The tunnel he walked through had a cold creek running through it. He had found out just how cold it was when he had stopped for a drink. That had been an hour ago. Now he was in far worse weather. Around him white stuff fell from above and stuck to the ground in deep drifts. There were no trees here to break the cold wind that swept down off the mountains that loomed larger than anything he had ever seen above.

He wondered what possibly could have caused such a huge thing to form here. He began to wonder if there was anything living in this place. He couldn’t help but wonder how anything could survive this kind of weather. He had his thick fur to help keep him from the elements, but even to him the cold was seeping through and numbing his paws. The cold stung his nose with each inhale of air, it came out as a puff of white steam. Broad paws barely kept the young wolf from sinking too far into the deep snow.

The dimness of the cave was something that didn’t bother him, having been born in the strangeness of Gemini. The shifting mirror like surfaces that showed your reflection at every angle at every turn. It had given him a very good look at himself right after he had hatched. It was also then that he had come face to face with Comet. She was just like him, she was wolf only of a different breed. Here it was just cold and dark. Emerald eyes blinked against the biting wind as they tried to look farther ahead. The young wolf coming to a hard realization that the closer he was to the mountains the colder it was.

So with that thought in mind the young wolf turned from his strange zigzag path across the cave, to make a hard turn and head for farther from the center of this caven. The young wolf was moving at a fast trot not daring to run as he worried his numb paws would be more clumsy than they usually were, which wasn’t saying much, because anytime he tried to run it was really a toss of a coin whether he tripped himself up in his own paws and legs.

A deep angry growl sounded from close by and the young wolf paused in his movement, only realizing that the sound had come from himself when it came again from his belly. It was now that he realized how hungry he was. The young wolf took a deep breath and let it out in a big puff of white steam. ”And I thought coming through here would be a good idea. I just had to see that big thing in there with the Moose didn’t I?” The young wolf grumbled to himself aloud.

This had to be one of the worst ideas he had ever had. He had come here the first time to get to Cephus and the big thing. He hadn’t realized he would have to go through this big cold place twice just to visit it. He was beginning to wonder if it would be worth it to come back to visit his friend, or just to stay out of this area all together and hope that eventually they would hunt us down for a visit. Though he wasn’t sure that would be as easy as he thought it would, considering how infrequently he stayed in one place. He couldn’t help it once his paws started to ache he had to start moving. This was one of those times. He was leaving Cephus and his friend behind because his paws had started that blasted aching and walking in circles hadn’t made it stop like it sometimes did. So he knew he had to start moving, he had to leave and go elsewhere again.

He wasn’t sure how long it had taken him, but the young wolf had finally reached his exit out of this blasted cold area. It was here that the young wolf felt a welcome wash of warmth over his fur and against his paws. The young wolf happily and eagerly trotted into the tunnel and down into Leo.
