Introduction:
A narrator, a voice with no clear origin. They describe the present, hint at the past, and spectate while others put together the pieces of information placed in their path.
A book, its contents old and its previous owners unknown. Where it came from, also not apparent, having discreetly made its presence known in the scrapyard referred to as Tunnel J.
A bird, the one who happened upon both. Whether it was by chance or by design, he is uncertain of. He knows not the exact nature of the situation he's mired in, nor can he glean the full intentions of the disembodied commentator shadowing his steps. All available to him is a collection of pages, their scrawls at the moment indecipherable while the pictures therein are a mixture of familiar and foreign.
Preserved inside this dusty book are the thoughts of those who once possessed it. Through them the past might answer the questions of the present. The issue is where to start, or rather when to start?
And the even bigger question: who is it that wants him to?
The Cast:
Our detective is East, a hawk fueled by suspicion, smart enough to doubt his course of action but too curious to reject the mystery laid at his feet. A solitary figure, he's kept his flight path to a small circuit of the caves, never straying too far from the glittering patch of Orion that spawned him. Now he quite likely will find himself venturing to places never visited before, and being very much a tourist without a map, fly into trouble as a result.
He understands the dead, how they decompose, and the Lessers that populate the caves he frequents. However, that does not grant him expertise on any subjects outside of those. The book he's found might contain secrets better unlocked by other Gembounds.
Shall you aid this inquiring mind in plumbing the depths of obscurity? Will the pursuit of knowledge guide your actions, or does some other motive influence you, ulterior or otherwise? The choice rests in your hands.
