Thomas followed closely behind Gabriel. He didn't want to get lost in the cave; especially since he could barely see. The structures around him seemingly started to smooth out and become less rocky. Perhaps they were nearing the exit. "I hope the journey is not too long," he replied. "I also hope that Polaris is everything I expect it to be." Thomas didn't expect much from the cavern, but he did hope for a few things. He hoped the fungi grew large. He hoped that light from the fungus and other plants was bright enough that he could see beyond what was right in front of him. He wanted vision; he wanted light.

Thomas' hooves made loud clattering sounds with each step. He looked back over his shoulder to see that everywhere his hoof landed, rocks dispersed around it. Even some of the smaller pebbles appeared crushed to dust. In confusion, he turned back to face Gabriel. "Does the tunnel have a name? Like Orion and Polaris does?" Thomas wanted to gather all the knowledge he could about these caves. It fascinated him; it was his home. Someday, he hoped, he would be as knowledgeable as Gabriel.

"With legs like yours I feel you'll find the journey to Polaris a comparatively short one." A single stride of theirs ended up being many smaller steps for Gabriel, which was undoubtedly the optimum way to travel. Unfortunately, Gabriel lacked access to this 'method', and doubted that its body would ever would be large enough to travel in complete comfort and safety. "Well, what are you expecting?" Gabriel's description of the cavern may have been inadequate; but it had to admit that expectation and reality were two very different things. It would be quite inefficient to describe every detail when one could just give the basics and show them the rest. Leading by example, Gabriel did not know exactly what to expect of Pisces, the waterfall room. Knowing how to get there and the basics of what lay at its end were quite enough.

Thomas wasn't the quietest being to travel with, and not just with their talking, but Gabriel didn't mind too much. having a larger being at his side was always going to be a useful thing regardless of how stealthy they were being. Besides, with every word they spoke, Gabriel was learning more. "Not that I know of. But I find it easy to tell it apart by the sweet scent on the air." That was another thing Gabriel found quite curious; perhaps it and Tacitus could investigate that, as well? Surely, there was a cause and a use for a sweet scent.

Gabriel continued leading the deer onwards. They were beginning to draw near to the edge of the cavern, the mouth of the tunnel a gaping blackness looming ahead of them.

"There. do you see teh gaping mouth? that's where we are going."

notes: they'll be heading through Tunnel N! do you want to make a separate thread in which they travel, or timeskip? I think it would definitely be interesting to follow through over a couple of threads to build their relationship and show the passage of time ^^

Thomas looked down at his legs once again and noticed how wide his steps were. He was somewhat confused at what Gabriel was talking about, but when he looked down at the pups own strides he came to a realization: Maybe I should slow down? He changed his pace only slightly; just enough that his legs were taking more normal steps and less quick ones. Thomas looked back up from Gabriel's legs and looked ahead of them with wide eyes. The look of the cave seemingly changed before them. The rocks became smoother and the buildings of Orion were further in the distance. Perhaps they were closer than the young elk presumed.

"What do I expect?" he repeated. "Well, I'm hoping the fungi glow bright enough that I can see real colors, and not just dull shades." Thomas sat in silence at his own reply for a few seconds. Is there anything else? he pondered. Surely he was hoping for more activity within Polaris, but most of all he wanted to see light and color; real color. Thomas glanced down at Gabriel as he exhaled slowly. "That's all I'm really hoping for," he added.

Thomas looked beyond them as Gabriel spoke of their destination. He strained to see cavern that the pup was talking about, but he gathered a general idea. It resembles a gaping maw, which at first terrified Thomas, but the idea of new things replaced that fear with excitement. Who gets scared of a silly old cave anyways? He looked down at Gabriel with a delighted look on his face. "I see it," he replied.

ooc; I think we should completely play out their journey to build their relationship! I can see some pretty great things happening between these two in the future.

Gabriel's ears pricked back towards Thomas, the pup heard the deer's strides changing, seemingly in response to its comment on finding the journey easier. No doubt the deer would find their footing more and more with time and journeys would become ever easier. They both would.

"Well, considering what you've seen of this world so far... which is presumably, not much..." Gabriel glanced back at them, and kept on moving as the tunnel loomed ever closer. "...I don't think you'll be disappointed. But I'll let you be the judge of that." Its voice calm as ever, Gabriel kept trotting onwards, soon drawing to a halt. It paused there for a second, allowing the deer to catch up, before continuing on. Orion was left behind and a sweet scent enveloped them.

Thomas grew attentive as they drew closer to the giant maw. He was captivated at how something made of rock could resemble something so feared by creatures like him. He wanted to discover all the knowledge that came with the formation of the rock exit. Was it built by another gembound? he thought. Or perhaps it has always been there? Maybe one day I will know.

Thomas looked up at Gabriel as the pup slowed down to make sure he was coming. He caught up quickly, and stared up at the surrounding rocks. He faced forwards again and looked into the tunnel before then. The sweet scent of the cave was strong and made Thomas wanted to seek out its source. Where is it coming from? He looked back down at Gabriel as they started to walk forwards into the tunnel. "I hope Polaris is everything I want it to be," Thomas said softly.
