Blue smiled. Their magick had made a child. They made a child. The thought was astonishing to Blueberry. He thought it was a dream almost. He couldn't begin to describe the joy he felt.

But... what would the child look like? What would it be like? He hoped the child would be fierce and strong and stubborn like Blackberry. But they needed another stone. And he'd give it. He'd give Blackberry everything. Blue smiled at her before looking down, making sure that his gem wouldn't break.

Blueberry brought his hoof up to his face awkwardly, and shaved off a piece of his stone, letting it slide down his face and onto the floor gently. Now to wait for the next part. And they'd have another child. Two. Would Blackberry want another? He could give more of his stone. And he wanted to give more. Just one more.

She looked up at Blueberry, the strange emotion still writhing away in her stomach and watched as he set another piece of stone on the ground. For a moment, she just looked at it. She had done that for him. She had really taken off a piece of her gem, just for this moose. Again, unwanted doubt seeped back into her, but she shoved it away. She was certain in her decision, if maybe not her emotions. Either way, it was too late. Now it was her turn to imbue life.

She stepped forward and rested her beak upon the stone, but she found that she was having trouble kickstart her magic. She wondered if she should be doing this instead of Blueberry. She had never been one for magic. But no, she couldn't get at her gem anymore. What else could she do? She just had to focus.

Blackberry didn't want Blueberry to see that she had failed to cast her initial spell. So she just closed her eyes, as if she hadn't tried yet and focused with all her might. This time it flowed easier by her strong will to make it happen. Instead of glowing green, there was a small spark and a small flash of yellow through the blue gem before it went still. She carefully picked it up in her beak and laid it next to the piece of her own gem before turning back to Blueberry, her eyes careful and watchful. However, she was beginning to grow tired. It was a lot of effort to create this kind of magic, the magic of life itself. "One more." It was a simple statement, not a demand or a question. There was finally a perfect understanding between the two, as if no words need be said at all.

Blue watched as Blackberry let her magick flow into the gem. His gem. Her yellow, sparky magick. And now, another child. Blue was nearly overwhelmed. The undertanding. The simplicity. The pease. He almost wished that everything could be like this.

It was thrilling. But nothing like the rush and thrill he got from battling and hurting. No, this one made him feel light, and at peace. This thrill made him giddy. It made him feel as he had when he first hatched. Nothing like battle. But even more enjoyable.

Blue brought his hoof up once more, taking off one more peice of his stone. There was less magic this time though, and the moose winced a bit. It wasn't painful, but it wasn't comfortable. It still worked though, and a flat disk fell to the ground, the gem on his head no longer raised, but flat and smooth.

Blueberry stared at the gems. Three. Two, faintly glowing with life. One with a soft green glow, the other, a soft yellow that flickered occasionally. And one, waiting to be given life. Blue looked at Blackberry expectantly, his gaze soft and kind. She could do this.

There was one more to go as Blueberry handed over the flat disk of a gem. She pulled it close and pressed her beak against it fervently. It sparked in her face from the amount of magic that she pushed into it, but she didn't mind. Only when the glow settled did she pick it up to put it with its siblings. She stepped back and looked at them, her children. Their children. Perhaps she would think differently of this night when she awoke the next morning, completely healed. Or perhaps not. Perhaps this was her true self, the violence and hate pushed back by a horrible injury that only Blueberry would care to heal. Either way, there was no going back now. Three gems with children inside would grow and hatch and they would be parents.

And for the first time in her life, Blackberry did something natural. Something that any mother goose would do with her eggs, could gembounds lay eggs. She walked over and gathered them together into her nest and sat right on top of them. She had to open a couple of her claws to compensate, but that made it easier to push them into her stomach protectively, as if her feathers could keep them warm. But it at least felt good to be doing this behavior, this extremely natural motherly behavior.

Blue watched quietyly asBlackberry put life into the last stone. They had three children. They were just stones, for now. But one day they'd be strong, powerful creatures.

Blue wondered what they'd look like. The two were rather different, and the gembounds they had created might look a little odd, but that didn't matter. Blue wouldn't mind. He'd love them just the same.

Blueberry watched as Blackberry gathered their children and put them hin her nest, laying on top of the. Blue worried for a moment but dismissed his thoughts. Blackberry may have been cruel, but she wouldn't kill her own children.

Blue reached his head over the edge of the nest and laid it against Blackberry's side, his eyes drifting shut. He was tired from making sure Blackberry was okay, and from creating life.

"I love you Blackberry." Blue murmurmed and he shut his eyes and embraced the void that was sleep. He was at peace.

One thing Blackberry missed about her last body were the feathers. She could no longer rest her head under her soft, feathery wings, like she once did. She would just have to droop her head and wake up with a sore neck. However, when Blueberry rested his head next to her, she automatically leaned over and her her own head sit on top. She heard the faint murmuring of Blueberry and hearing the words aloud sent a jolt through her chest.

A crushing doubt smashed into her like a dragon. A doubt filled with darkness and screaming voices and laughing and blood. A doubt that demanded she had nothing but pain and had and anger. She was not allowed to have the pleasure of company or the love of another. And she was most certainly not allowed to love anyone, not even herself.

But being here, resting atop Blueberry's head, with their children peacefully under her belly, gave the emotion that was under siege a second wind. The doubt was wiped away and she was filled with what she had been denying for so long.

Although Blueberry could not hear her, or, perhaps, he could, Blackberry softly replied. "I love you too, Blueberry."

She felt asleep with her first genuine smile.
