By falling over face-down in the dirt, the caracal had inadvertently avoided Kin-Kin's attack. But that didn't matter. The sheer irony was enough for Kin-Kin's effort to be worth it. Skidding to a halt, Kin-Kin stood nearby and sneered, her throat rumbling as she desperately tried to hold back her sneers, and inevitably failed.

"Seems... heh-heh... that it's more likely you'll destroy yourself," she giggled darkly, shrugging back her cape with a little paranoia that she'd trip over it herself. That'd be... uh... She didn't even want to think about it. Even the thought made her feel hot and prickly under her skin.

Not-quite out of politeness, Kin-Kin waited until they scrambled to their feet to make her next move, and then threw herself at them with the same gusto that she had before. She wasn't aiming to kill, for obvious reasons. But the golden wolf seemed to feel that this battle was nearing its end, and that no less, this gutsy stranger had overstayed their welcome.

Without anymore joking or jeering, Kin-Kin charged, aiming to drive them to the ground with her weight.

Imperia Let's forget that ever happened

Imperia snarled at the other as she laughed at his misfortune. Destroy himself? Of course not! "Destroy myself? O-of course not! I'll still destroy you!" He had stuttered. The one thing that could have made this worse, and it happened. He silently cursed himself. Could it really get any worse?

Yes, apparently. It could.

He yelped in surprise as the she-wolf charged him, knocking him right off his sore paws and into the ground. He groaned and scowled. His back was sore now from being pressed against the ground, as well as his front from falling right on his face. This would not do, this would not do at all. She had to get off, and she had to get off now. He tried scratching her, hoping that would get her off.

Kin-Kin had had just about enough. Her sneers and snarls were wearing thin, her adrenaline was wearing out. As hard as she'd trained, Kin-Kin felt as though nothing but further fights could prepare her for this. Her heart was pounding, her breaths were short and a little rasped. The shallow wounds she'd retained stung, and she wanted to step aside and lick them clean, to smooth her ruffled fur again...

She had to end this somehow, but she was stubborn, and proud. She couldn't simply back off. she wouldn't. She needed the final huzzah, the last laugh. That feeling only deepened as Kin-Kin felt their claw across her cheek, leaving little streaks of blood seeping into the fur beneath her eye. She felt it sting, and bared her glistening fangs.

"You... You wanted a fight, huh?" she hissed through her teeth. "Well, then... Let's see if I can... make you want to finish it!"

Moving her paws, she tried to cover Imperia's throat, just enough that it was clear that this was over, but not enough to kill.

Imperia ...Did I win?

Imperia grinned in satisfaction as he felt his claws rake across her cheek. That victory, however, was short lived as he felt her paws on his throat. She put a bit of pressure, but it wasn't a lot. This battle could end, sure, but it sure as hell wasn't going to end this way! He figured he ought to try and get her off.

Kicking out with his hind legs, he managed to throw the other off of him. He rose and faced her, baring his teeth. "There. The battle is finished, I hope you're happy." While it may have ended, he had no idea who had won. Had he won? Or had she won? He wasn't sure he'd be able to handle it if she had won.

Now that the adrenaline was gone, his wounds were really starting to get to him. His paws hurt more than ever, so he sat down, trying to lessen some of the pressure, especially on the paw she had bitten. He was sore all over after being thrown against the ground multiple times, and he knew that these next few days were going to be hard. Whatever. If he won, it'd all be worth it.

However, by the looks of it, it seemed as though the other won. Imperia's eyes narrowed. Had he seriously just lost this battle? His first battle, and he lost? He scowled. How had he lost? Surely he'd have won? He glanced at her wounds. She had a lot less than he did. She just had a scratched face and chest. His paws were burnt, one was bitten, and he was sore all over. He growled and glared at the other.

It seemed that they would have the last laugh after all. Kin-Kin was thrown, and came tumbling to a halt a short distance away. For a few moments she lay, before slowly clambering to her paws. In response to the caracal's words, Kin-Kin let out a snort, filled with contempt and triumph. She was aching now that it was over but she stood tall anyway, puffing out her chest and paying no heed to the stinging scratches either side of her gem.

She bared her teeth in a grin, looking over the cat.

"I'd say you bit off more than you could chew," she jeered. She was going to milk this as much as she could, at least until the other cracked. Kin-Kin decided that she loved this, a chuckle rising in her throat as she received their growling and glaring with a grin that bared glistening fangs.

"Maybe you should have quit whilst you were ahead..."

Imperia I'll win next time

Imperia scowled at the wolf. "I had every chance to win as you did! It was just a lucky break that you won. It won't happen again!" He snorted. "One day, I'm going to fight you again. And I swear I'll win! Just you wait!" He jumped up, facing the other. He winced slightly from the wounds but ignored it.

"One day, when I'm older and even stronger, we'll fight. And next time, I won't lose!" Imperia's claws dug into the ground below, trying to work out his frustration. She was making him even more mad on purpose! He thought about going off on her, insulting her as best as he could, but decided to take a different approach. If she wanted him to get even more mad, then she had another thing coming. He took a deep breath, and with a lot of effort, managed to calm the fur along his spine. She'd have to try a lot harder than that.

Kin-Kin let out a snickering laugh at their anger, watching with eyes aglow as they seemed to rise to her taunts. Her bait was set, and she smirked. "Oh, sure it was," she drawled, waving her tail softly in an effort not to appear too proud, simply contempt. Again, she gave a sneer, lifting her upper lip. "I'll wait for that day, and then we'll see," she assured, overconfident now.

"I'll make sure to stay a couple of steps ahead."

Certain that her taunts were beginning to get under the caracal's skin, Kin-Kin flattened back her ears and shifted her cape so that it shrouded most of her back. She stared at them; trying not to make her concentration clear. In a few moments, the reflection of light drained from the wolf's coat, and even the traces that remained were engulfed by the cloak that had once been her baby blanket.

How she'd changed since then.

Now, she walked silhouetted against the dark.

With a last, dry chuckle, she turned her back on the caracal, and knew that this was the last she would see of her birthplace. As her claws clacked on stone, Kin-Kin was proud that she'd go out with a bang.

Imperia scowled at her. Oh, how he wanted to rip her to pieces! But he couldn't. One day, however. One day they'd meet again, and he'd make sure he didn't let her off so easily. He watched as she disappeared and he lost sight of her. His eyes narrowed at her last words. Yes. Until next time. Next time, he'd get her for sure.

When they were sure she was gone, they began to leave as well. They didn't know where they would go next, but it didn't matter. Wherever they went, they'd be sure to fight. And they'd win.
