yara is the best dad *completely serious*

Instead of laughter, what he heard was the rapid rustling of wings atop his head. Ghanyarah slowed slightly, shifting all of his attention to Lituus. He'd hoped that his antics would amuse her. After all, he could hear some furious splashing behind him and assumed that his attempt to knock the polar bear down had succeeded. But Lituus only suggested they help him as thanks for having given Ghanyarah the shard. Well, Ghanyarah wasn't so eager to rescue a newborn Gembound that sounded so darn sassy. But she sounded truly concerned. And when he turned around to look back at the polar bear, he realized that the current had far overpowered him.

Alright, so maybe his attempt to make Lituus laugh had gone awry. Ghanyarah resisted the urge to scowl - after all, this was his fault, and his joke had failed, and now the little polar bear needed his help. Did they know it was his fault? That might be a different story. Maybe he could recover his pride yet. "Well, I suppose I am a little grateful. Alright, punk, hold on!" Ghanyarah said decisively and moved back to the edge of the river, craning his neck to examine what he had to work with. He could easily stop the river current again, but that might clue them into his antics.

His next option? Ice.

Tendrils of magic stretched out over the surface of the river, instantly freezing it into a hard, slippery surface. He froze the water surrounding Odin, leaving the water immediately around him untouched so that he could still move. The ice quickly thickened and stretched out towards the shore where Ghanyarah sat with Lituus on his head, providing a temporary bridge if Odin could get onto it.

The anxious flittering ceases when Yara decides to aid the cub. She goes silent and still thereafter so as not to distract him. Her head cranes to one side, watching the dragon's head, and seconds later, the signs of magic working its way over the surface of the river. A light gasp escapes her as the state of the water begins to alter, hardening and crackling as liquid was forcibly condensed and turned solid. "Ghanyarah!" she quips with surprise.

Her tiny mouth hangs open as she watches the ice stretch from around the cub to the banks of the shore where the pair stood-- well, where Ghanyarah stood. "You did that?" The excited flittering returns and he earns another a few more chirrups of triumphant laughter. "That's so cool!" She wasn't trying to flatter him. Or give him an ego boost. Whatever came to mind was the first thing to fumble out of her mouth and they'd both learned that much at least.

"Find your feet, little one! Quickly!" No pressure, but she could not know how long Ghanyarah's ice would hold. Reason told that would be safer to cross sooner than later. "One step- up you go!" Someone give this bat two cotton balls to use for pom poms already. Small wings tightly hug the sides of her fuzzy frame as anxious eyes scan the central river, fixated on the cub's movements.

It seemed as though everything was in slow motion - the rushing of the river, his feet beneath him grasping at anything for balance, the ice freezing the water that Ghanyarah somehow produced. Odin reached for the ice, using his baby bear claws to dig into the surface and drag himself ashore. Gasping at the air to catch his breath, he breathed heavily for a moment before rising and sitting before the magic lizard and his useless bat friend panting and still clearly out of breath.

Water ran off his waterproof coat and created a puddle around him that he sat in. Thankfully, the polar bear hardly noticed the chilly temperature of the water. "How did-... how did you do that?" He gasped at the giant lizard, thinking him to be some kind of hero or something. How had he made that ice? Could he make ice? Irregardless, this man had just saved his life! Or at least he thought so.

"Speech!"

Unsurprisingly, both of the youths seemed amazed at his display of magical prowess. Ghanyarah hoisted his head up high, a smug smile sitting on his lips as he watched the polar bear cub sputter and gasp for breath, shivering under his already thick white pelt. He elevated his front end with considerable pride while his rear remained pressed against the stone, his long, whip tail curled around his side. "Magic. Of course. I am an incredibly powerful force in these caves," the reptile said, tilting his head now with a slight gesture as the ice already began to break apart and drift down the current of the river. His gaze shifted back to the babe.

"So what is your name, punk?" the reptile's smugness turned into a genuine smile as he tested the nickname out. He remembered Kin-Kin had referred to him as... what was it again? Grumps... Gramps...? Something that implied he was old. And while Ghanyarah at the time saw no need for nicknames, he was beginning to grow fond of them when he spun them on others. "I am Ghanyarah. This is my companion," he paused, allowing the bat the opportunity to introduce herself.

oops sry for slow.

The bat watches the clumsy ball of white fur propel itself closer, and soon enough it was free of the water that had plagued its emergence. Now that the cub a solid footing and wonder in his words, the reptiles' useless companion pipes up, "I'm a bat!" The delicate, elongated bones of her fingers stretched out to show off the dark, translucent membrane intricately woven between them. That is, of course, her response to Ghanyarah's introduction. She did not know her name just yet. And just like her, she seems all too excited to participate in any amount of small talk.

Her wings steadily retract to her small, puffy sides as she listens for the response he would have. She loved to learn names. Names were beautiful- things she came to envy. "What are you?" Her head tilts in curiosity0 at an angle that looked uncomfortable. "You're like a... a..." She wrinkles her little snout. "Like some kind of cloud."
