The bird was still young, though it had learned to fly. It could only do it over short distances, but it was good enough to get away from being food. Of course, he would be the best at flying one day, no doubt about that. For now, he walked a bit, then jumped and flew a few feet, then landed, then walked. You couldn’t really call his walk a walk, though. Even in his early age, he had developed a proud swagger. His crop would puff out and he would hold his body straight. Like this, he could walk with long strides as he tilted his head this way and that, observing with a glare everything around him. His stone’s shape gave his eyes the hooded look of anger, even if he wasn’t angry at all. However, by some luck or stroke of fate, the bird was, almost always angry. Even as he walked, flew, then walked again, he was upset. Why couldn’t he fly better? Why had no one noticed him yet? Why hadn’t anyone called him king? He had decided he wasn’t a king, actually, but a prince. Someone young and charmbirb. That was how it was said, right? Even with that title he needed a name, something strong and dignified. Gertrude. Now he just needed to combine it. Thrusting his head upwards, the bird called out, "I am Prince Charmbirb Gertrude!"

It had only been a week --or maybe two?-- that he'd last seen Mr. Spotty-Butt the Leopard. He'd left Polaris behind and flown around to his heart's content. Today found him back in Polaris, he didn't know why but perhaps he'd find something interesting. Last time he had the leopard to blackmail. What would he find today?

As he cruised the skyways he noticed something glimmering on the ground. Wanting to get a closer look just in case it was a shiny he could grab, the black bird lowered himself closer to the ground. Unfortunately, it wasn't something he could grab. It was just another bird with some strange gem on its head. Bummer. He couldn't take that. Dismayed, the raven almost flew away but stopped when he noticed that silly strut the gray and white bird had. Did he fancy himself as some sort of royal thing? Intrigued the raven tailed him from the air. Making sure he flew slightly behind the bird as not to cast a shadow on top of him.

The longer he watched the more he found the creature to be hilarious! Just look how he strutted! He thought of himself as some sort of pretty bird. Ah ha! That was funny. The only one who was a pretty bird around here was him. Perhaps he ought to show that bird brain who was the real prince.

With a flap of his wings and a glimmer of his purple claw he flapped his wings and flew a little bit faster. He even lowered himself to skim right over the creature's head, hoping to scare him. Then, he landed in front of the bird. The raven spread his wings out on either side of him, showing his size and blocking the creature's way. Normally he wasn't so forward but today he was feeling lucky. Finally he had someone smaller than himself to pick on.

"Krahaha! Prince? That's quite funny! Hahaha!" The raven cawed and laughed in his face. "If anyone here's a prince it's Krakarak! He's the one who's the smartest and prettiest bird in all of the caves!" He laughed again, loudly, right in front of the gem-headed bird's face.

The bird continued on for some time, unaware of the other bird close by. It wasn't until the other bird got in front of him that Prince Charmbirb Gertrude noticed the other. It was fitting, for clearly this bird was of a lowly species. The indignant little- but actually bigger than Gertrude- bird was trying to block him! The nerve of some creatures, first the rock, now this? Was it... Was it now laughing at him? Was it mocking him? did this lowly creature not believe Gertrude was really a prince? Now that really ruffled the little bird's feathers! He said that someone named Krakarak was the prettiest and smartest bird around. Now who was that? Surely it was a majestic bird, full or valor and color. Maybe he had claimed the spot as prince! That spot was Gertrude's by right! He hopped again and tilted his head back and forth, "Why you imbecile, how dare you- Ah! I get it, you're one of this Krakarak's lowly servants, aren't you?" The prince tilted his head, hopping closer, "It's a shame, yes a shame indeed, your drab feathers being the color of some walls. If this Krakarak is the true prince, then bring me to him, thrall, and I shall show him what a real prince is made of!" The little bird puffed at his statements, quite pleased at his observations. So there were different ranks in the bird kingdom after all? Good to know! Now Prince Charmbirb Gertrude would have peasants to rule over!

Oh, such a reaction! The bird puffed himself up and called him an imbecile. Krakarak would have been insulted had it not been for the fact that this bird thought he was some sort of king. Well, in a roundabout sort of way. Simply to piss the puffed up dove off further while he was speaking the raven tucked his wings back to his sides and dipped his head to the ground to begin pecking at the insects there. Feigning disinterest in his words. He only raised his head up to speak a few moments after the other finished.

The look in his eyes was smug, same with the shit-eating grin on his face as he opened his beak to answer. "Then show me, imbecile! Krak Krak! I am the great Krakarak! The one who is the prettiest bird of the caves and who is the prince of carrion! Krakaw!" He would have said king but Aza'zel was the king. In fact, Aza'zel was the only bird who he would give the authority to unless another earned his respect. So far that had yet to happen and this pigeon wasn't doing so well as to earn his respect. Just to see if it would anger him further Krak turned his head slightly away from the bird, as if he was hardly worth his time and said, "Krakarak would rather have 'drab' feathers than a stupid misshapen rock head! Krak!" Now, let him come back from that! Krakarak enjoyed this sort of thing. Pissing people off just to see how angry they got. Sure, it was a dangerous game sometimes but with someone as small as the pigeon he doubted he would come off bad in a fight.

The bird, this dirty, cave colored bird had the nerve to pretend to ignore him- HIM- Prince Charmbirb Gertrude! The indignant little brat! He then announced that he was Krakarak. Gertrude's surprise was obvious, "YOU the prettiest? You, the dirt-colored can't-even-see-you-properly-if-it's-too-dark colored bird? HAH! AHAHA!" The prince began to cackle a laugh that was still softer than the other bird's, but still sharp for the small fledgling. He tossed his head back and laughed. How could this bird be the prettiest and most intelligent? He couldn't! Absorbed in his laughter, which may have been dragged on for effect, Gertrude fell backwards, rolling onto his side, his feet now free to kick and flail about as he erupted.

The other bird dared to speak again, causing the prince to jump to his feet with a small heave. Did he just call his beautiful gem head misshapen?! The bird was taken aback, at first, "This is a gem! A large and beautiful gem that ADORNS my skull, giving it an angular helm of protection and sheen in equal parts and is- by far- better than that soft round fluffy thing you call a head! Where do you even keep your brai- oh wait, you don't have a brain, do you?" Confident as ever, the small bird hopped closer, "And just where is your gem? What good is it?" He spotted it, his crop inflating to emphasize that he was looking down, "Ah, is that small thing down there it? Is that your stone? A small toe? Is that helpful, hmm?" The bird leaned down to peck at it, as if it were a worm.

Now, it was starting to get personal. Instead of insulting his nonexistent status as servant he was now insulting his actual status. Krakrak scoffed. Showed what he knew! Black was the color of royalty! In fact, "My colors better than yours! Krak Krak! You look like a stinky, dirty maggot with a stupid head!" Who did he think he was fooling? That icky gray color. How gross was that? Black was where it was at! Besides, his feathers had a lovely purple sheen to them that was unique to just him.

The raven's dark eyes narrowed as the pigeon exaggerated his laughter. Krakarak puffed his own feathers up with slight irritation. Eyes glaring holes into the dove's body. After the other jumped up with indignation it was Krakarak's turn to laugh and he did so with gusto. Did he honestly think that ugly green thing was pretty? Krakarak had an addiction to collecting shiny gems but even he wasn't attracted to it. Perhaps that was because it was attached to an ugly gray thing with a bad attitude. However, his laugh cut off when the pigeon insulted his intelligence. "Krakarak could say the same of you! How do you even have a brain when your whole head is made of a stupid gem?" He cawed out angrily.

Then... He did it.

Krakarak could stand a lot of things but this was where he drew the line. The pigeon dared to peck at his talon, his beautiful amethyst talon with his dirty beak?! It didn't hurt, no, his amethyst claw wasn't going to be injured by a light tap with that stupid beak. "KRAKAW!" He crowed loudly in anger. That was the only warning the dove got before Krakarak raised his wings and flapped them to take the weight off of his feet in an attempt to kick them out at the pretentious fowl. He was aiming to stick that amethyst talon right in his stupid stomach. "Helpful enough to kick idiots like you! Krakawaw!"

He had NOT. This bird could absolutely not be serious! He thought that black was better than his silken grey and iridescent green? How could anything be more wrong? He thought Gertrude was the ugly one? Impossible! The bird asked how Gertrude could have a brain when his gem was there. That bird might have had a point. Gertrude hadn't actually thought about that before, though he was sure he had one and he was sure it was bigger than this bird brain's bird brain!

As the bird prince pecked at the other's toe, he drew back, his little feet splayed slightly for balance while his feathers were fluffed with pure anger, protecting his skin. The bird tucked his head slightly as the other cried out, covering his neck with his stone-covered beak. The other flapped up and kicked him- actually kicked him! He put his filthy claw and little baby stone squarely into the little puffed up belly of the pigeon prince. Gertrude squawked loudly, stumbling backwards slightly, "You... You... BUFFOON!" the little bird called. He aimed to tuck his head down and ram the challenger with the curved part of his stone, seeking to knock him off balance and scratch that stupid bird's stupid stomach. Stupid.

Ha ha! The blow had landed and Krakarak now started laughing in the bird's face. "Stupid, ugly gem-face! KRAKAW!" While he was laughing the bird should have been paying attention to his adversary. The dove dropped his head and rammed his belly but since the raven had been laughing his defenses weren't set and he was caught full in the belly. "Oof!" He gasped out as the hard gem, that he'd previously been making fun of, caught him in the belly. The raven fell backwards and lay there for a moment.

The gem had managed to cause minor bruising on his gut and it was a very uncomfortable sensation. However, Krakarak wasn't about to take that lying down... Not from someone who was smaller than he was! Time to assert his dominance! The raven gave an angry "caw" before he righted himself and flapped his wings. He lifted into the air and flew forwards towards the pigeon. Right in front of him he aimed to rake his talons across the bird's eyes and chest in an attempt to hurt him. While he did this the bird puffed up his feathers mostly on instinct but it was a move to protect himself from too much damage. He also tucked his head into his breast feathers just in case... You never knew what could happen.

Briar clarified that Krakarak is staying in the air hovering above Gertrude, so I'm going off of that.

The pigeon would have smirked if he could have. His attack landed and the dumb dull black bird lay on the ground for a good moment. When he got up, however, he took off into flight. Gertrude wasn't very good at flying yet and knew better than to try to engage in wing to wing combat. The little bird fluffed up and tucked his body inward, squinting his eyes as he tilted his head to see where the foe was coming from. The little bird was squatted down, his weight even, though his weight wasn't very much to begin with. He was ready for whatever this stupid threw at him!

The opponent swooped, his claws clanging against Gertrude's head gem. They scraped down, not causing damage to the rock. The claws slipped off the gem and hit against the shoulder of Gertrude's left wing instead of his crop, since he had tucked his head. The talons slipped through the fluffed but small baby feathers and caused minor scratches that burned, but wouldn't hinder the bird overall.

Though he was startled, the little bird knew he had to act fast. His enemy didn't seem to be landing or flying off, but Gertrude knew he couldn't fly well enough to fight, but he did have a nice vantage point from below Krakarak. The little bird scrunched his eyes and attempted to hop and bite onto Krakarak's left ankle, just above the foot with no intention of letting go if he got the grip. He had his gem beak, and if he couldn't fly, maybe he could stop the dumb from being able to land!

While he hovered up above his opponent the black bird's attempts to slash the dove's face only ended in failure. Stupid gem head! That wasn't fair! It was cheating to be able to have gem armor like that! His continued attempts at slashing the bird finally paid off though only in a small amount as he gave the creature a couple of scratches. The puffed up feathers were an adequate defense when coupled with the tucked head. Krakarak couldn't break though it!

What's more the bird attempted to bite him with his stupid beak! However, Krakarak was able to maneuver his talons away from the biting mouth so it only resulted in the other biting air. The raven was able to keep his feet from harm. Still, that proved that Krakarak needed to get his talons away from the gem-face's mouth. So, he back-flapped and pulled himself about a foot away from the dove. The raven landed on his talons, spreading his legs out to distribute his weight while clutching the earth with his talons. His wings opened and he flapped them in an attempt to summon a gust with the intent to knock the dove off balance. While he did this he kept his feathers puffed up in case of a retaliation while his talons clutched the ground in case the spell backfired. He'd been knocked off his feet once with this spell, he didn't need it to happen twice!
