Arete continued to listen as Makyna began explaining what she knew about magic. It was not surprising at all to hear that there were also a darker nature to their gifted powers. There was truly no light that did not have it's mate of darkness. The key was to stay focused? Arete knew for certain she could do that. Even right out of her Chrysalis she seemed to be just a step ahead of any normal gembound that had emerged within the cave. Makyna began to explain how she used her magic and Arete tilted her head to the side, inadvertently looking cuter than she even realized. Oh! So there was magic called Arcane. And Fire? Fire she felt like she could understand. It just seemed like a familiar word to her. Arcane didn't hold that touch of familiarity however so Arete found herself pondering it for just a moment.
"Welll...let's see if I can do magic," Arete smiled warmly as she settled all paws upon the ground and set her gaze back to Makyna. She contemplated her words again before she turned her gaze down to her white painted paws. On instinct, Arete's eyes began to close as she focused her mind to the task at hand. Summoning her magic. For a moment she simply sat there, but there was a suddenly sensation against her belly where her citrine gem sat nestled into her. A flicker of light flashed out from the gem and slowly, but surely Arete's form began to take on a glow. It grew in brightness, but it didn't seem to last long before it dimmed and stayed that way.
A smile crept over Arete's features as she looked back to Makyna. "It worked a little!" She cheered herself as her body continued to glow dimly. It wasn't as bright as before, but it was still there! That was a successful attempt in her eyes. A soft laugh escaped the cub as she went about to look herself over, admiring the way her pelt look as it took on the effects of glowing.

"Good luck, I know you can!" The lioness said encouragingly. The lioness watched as the tiger began to use her magic. Her coat began to take on a glow, a slight glow but it was good enough. Makyna smiled and sat back on her haunches so she could clap her paws in applause like she'd seen Leon do before. "Good job! You keep having practices like that and you'll be glowing like a tigerbulb in no time!" She praised with a slight laugh. Oh, jokes, she hadn't done jokes in a while. She forgot how fun they were.
The lioness rose back to her paws and said, "Now, have you ever tried to--" The lioness didn't get to finish her sentence as all of a sudden a huge wave of water fell over her head. Dowsing her completely in water. "Use any other powers..." She finished in slight irritation. She already had an idea on who that was.
Bracing her paws on the ground she gave her coat a good shake, splashing all of the water from it and possibly onto an already soaked Arete if the wave had made it that far. In her ears rang the sound of whistle, singsong laughter and before she turned she knew that she would spy the dolphin with the sapphire gem on his back and dorsal fin. He was sitting at the shore with his head poked into the shallows, a huge grin was on his face and the already pushover of a lioness could hold her irritation no longer. "Eeya make'em biiiiig splash!" He giggled excitedly.
Makyna rolled her eyes but couldn't help but laugh as well. "Yes, very big splash but be careful I don't come in there after you!" It was an empty threat full of teasing and the dolphin knew it. You could tell from his cheery laugh in response.
The lioness turned back to Arete with a smile. "This is a friend of mine, Eeya." The dolphin whistled an enthusiastic greeting.

Arete grinned broadly when the lioness gave her encouragement. It was pleasing to hear. Though she may not have truly been successful in that attempt, Arete knew it would only be better the more she practiced. That in itself left Arete glowing with happiness. Arete pushed her rounded ears towards Makyna as she began to speak, but out of nowhere a sudden wave of water came crashing down upon both of them! Arete was left shocked for a long moment before laughter quickly rung from her little form. A gentle, warm golden eyes danced towards the water creature and a broad and curious grin spread over her features. Her fur was now soaked, but it didn't seem to bother the cub. Makyna soon introduced the fish as Eeya and Arete rose to her paws to pad closer to the waters edge. "Hello, I am Arete! It's nice to meet you fishfriend," She grinned as she crouched there, looking over the dolphin. He had a pretty gem upon his back!
She turned her gaze back to Makyna with a thoughtful gaze. "You must have a lot of friends, Makyna," It was more of a statement than it was a question. She had already spoke of several other friends she knew of that held magical abilities. For a moment she wondered just how long this particular feline had been awake in the caves. She was clearly bigger than Arete, but she didn't quite look full grown yet. If instincts told her anything about the species before her Arete knew she would still be growing in the coming days. "So...have I tried what? You were going to say something before our friend here splashed us?" She turned another grin to Eeya, playfully batting a paw at the dolphin. Of course her claws were still safely tucked away in her paws, so even if she did manage to touch the fish it would only be a friendly boop.

Makyna reached a paw into the water and splashed the dolphin which only caused him to giggle more. "It nice to meet you too, land-critter-friend! Should come swim sometime! Eeya teach you!" The dolphin sang happily to Arete. "He will, y'know?" Makyna said with a smile. "Ever want to learn to swim then just find this guy." The dolphin beamed proudly. "I do the magic and he does the swimming lessons." The dolphin's head bobbed up and down in agreement.
The lioness turned to the tiger when she mentioned her having a lot of friends. If her fur hadn't been blocking her skin the lioness would have blushing. Compliments, which is what she took that as, were something she absolutely loved. "Well, not a lot. We just have a lot of members of Maji Walezi which is what Eeya is." The lioness chuffed modestly.
When the tiger batted her paw at the dolphin he stuck his beak forward playfully and attempted to bump her paw right back. He loved to play with others though that much was probably evident. "Oh! Yes!" She smiled at the tigress. "I was going to say if you had any other powers? They tend to develop over time with the more you use your magic." That's what she had noticed anyway. Or maybe it just seemed that they developed that way because the more you practiced the more you explored yourself.

Swimming. Now that sounded like a lot of fun! But maybe that could be reserved for another day. Arete smiled at the dolphin, "Yes, that would be kind of you to teach soon. I shall most definitely come find you when I am ready." Right now she wasn't really feeling like being in the water. She was more curious about the magic she could do. She moved to sit on her haunches again as she looked towards Makyna "I'm not sure if I have any others." She took a moment to ponder it. She had only just learned that she could make herself glow. Her gaze dropped down towards a few pebbles that had been close to her paws. Not really interesting...-
Soon her gaze settled to the fish carcass. Her head tilted to the side as she studied the thing. Her tail flicked about on it's own accord. The sudden flash from her gem against her tummy was lost on Arete, but when the fish bones were suddenly starting to take on light Arete's eyes began to widen. "Whoa!" She awed as she quickly got up to her paws and stared at the now brightly glowing fish bones. What on Origin could cause that? Had she done something?! Could she make things glow like she could make herself glow?! She swung her head around to look at Makyna as she pointed a paw at the bones. "Look! It's glowing!"She couldn't stop the grin on her face. Even if it was a little creepy that a carcass of a fish was now glowing, it was still something Arete was finding great interest in.

The dolphin bobbed his head again, obviously excited that he would soon have a new student to teach. "Yes yes! Eeya teach Arete how swim soon! It be much, many fun!" With the twinkle in his eye it was obvious that he would hold her to that but for now he was content to let Makyna finish her own lessons with the tiger as he dove beneath the surface and swam out to the middle of the river, practicing his breaching and also possibly trying to show-off.
Makyna took one last look at the sparkling gem of the dolphin's before turning back to the tigress. She wasn't sure if she had any others but Makyna was certain if she concentrated then a new one would pop up. "Try." She said gently though she wasn't forcing anything. If the tiger wasn't sure that she had any powers then she wouldn't push her too hard. That would do nothing but stress her out and make her fail her spells.
The lioness sat and wrapped her tufted tail around her paws as she waited, no rush in the world, for the tiger to try something new. It wasn't long before the fish bones on the ground began to glow. Makyna's eyes widened. How magnificent! "Wow! Amazing!" She said excitedly. Just to show that she was excited for the tigress she let out a call from her mouth that sounded the exact same as one of Eeya's whistling songs. It even got the breaching dolphin's attention for a moment before he started practicing again. "Congratulations on finding a new spell!" Makyna poked at the glowing fish bones. How neat! The bones which were previously to be discarded could be kept... Hmm... she wondered if these could be used for writing.

The tigress laughed happily again as Makyna praised her for her work. She turned her golden gaze back down to the glowing fish bones before plopping back down onto her rump. A few splashes made her attention move back over towards Eeya and she watched him for a moment before her attention quickly came back. "I wonder if I can make something else glow..." She hummed thoughtfully as she cast her gaze around the area. When she spotted a decent sized rock Arete hopped up to her paws and trotted over to it. She pulled it closer with her paw, claws extending to grasp it and make sure it scooted much closer to her. She plopped back on her haunches and focused again. Slowing breathing out and even slower to breath in.
Arete noticed the flash of her stone this time, if not for the fact that it had startled her a little bit with how focused she was trying to be. It shown bright for only a small moment before fading out. Just as quickly the stone she had colllected took on a sudden bright flash of light, before the source slowly faded to a dull glimmer. Arete grinned. It may not have been as bright as she made the fish bones! But it still worked. She purred happily as she curled her tail around herself. She was slowly starting to get tired, however, and pondered over the fact that using this magic could be draining. She would have to keep that in mind if she ever chose to keep practicing for a long time. She turned her gaze back to Makyna once again with a broad, toothy grin. "I did it."

Makyna nodded her head. If she'd made one thing glow then it only made sense that she could make other things glow. Though it was a theory that you could only see in practice. While Arete cast around for something else to light up, Makyna studied the fish bones. She nosed them around and even picked one up in her mouth. It was certainly very unique and Makyna found herself very attracted to it. She wondered if the tiger would mind if she kept a few of the fish bones.
The lioness' studies were distracted when the tiger managed to light the stone and make it glow. So she could use it on other things! Perfect! "Excellent! Very good." The lioness praised her around the fish bone. The lioness dropped her head and put one paw over the bone so she could speak easier. "I'd say you're learning quite well. Keep practicing and you'll be a master spell caster in no time! Just don't exhaust yourself. If you're not used to casting a lot of spells then it can make you tired quickly." She couldn't tell if the tigress was feeling the drain or not but it was a good bit of advice, she figured. Until she built up her stamina it would be wise to not overdo it.

Arete smiled warmly as she remained where she was. Giving a curt nod to show Makyna that Arete had been listening to her words. She was feeling pretty exhausted. Perhaps it would make for a good time for a nap. Though she didn't want to seem rude to Makyna and just walk off to find a good, safe place to rest. So, Arete rose up to her paws and padded over towards Makyna. She gave the typical feline headbump to the front of her leg before grinning up at her. "Thank you for helping me learn," She purred softly, "I need to rest though. It was most delightful in meeting you, Makyna. And you too Eeya!" She looked over towards where the dolphin was still jumping from the water. Or maybe he wasn't? She glanced around for him but soon shrugged it off hoping the dolphin had heard her.
She looked back to Makyna again, "I'll see you again I'm sure. I'm off to take a nap." She purred happily, moving to rub up along the Lioness' legs. With one final goodbye the young tiger cub turned and made her way off into Polaris. A soft pur continued to vibrate through her chest as the happy cub continued on her way. It had been a good start. She had already met two really nice friends and even learned more about the magic she may possess. She just couldn't wait to learn of every last thing she could do. Yet, even that would not appease her curiosity of the place she now lived within. She would learn all about it. She just knew she would.

Makyna could tell that the young tigress was tired after practicing so many spells and a new one as well. So it was no surprise when she wanted to head off and rest. Makyna rose to her paws and lowered her own head to touch the top of Arete's. "It was my pleasure, Arete." She raised her head, blue eyes looking down at the tiger. "It was most delightful meeting you too!" The lioness grinned before looking out towards the water but Eeya was no longer turning flips. He'd probably gotten distracted by a school of fish or something. "I'm sure Eeya feels the same!" She laughed. The dolphin was always excited at meeting new gembounds.
"I'll be seeing you. Have a good nap!" The tigress walked away, leaving the glowing items behind. After Arete was no longer visible Makyna turned her attention down to the glowing bones and she carefully picked up a few in her mouth. They would be distinctly useful. So, she took her leave as well, heading back to Pisces to deposit her new items for storage in her den. Perhaps when she got back she would take a nap as well. A secret love of hers certainly was cat naps.
