The lean pup watched with wide eyes as the other Gembound slipped and slid their way forward one precarious step at a time. They were so distracted by their current predicament, that they didn't seem to notice her at all. Kit was grateful for that, and decided to use it to her advantage as she planned out what exactly she was going to do.
The cave rat wasn't in sight, but its scent seemed strongest here, the hyena noted after a quick sniff. She assumed the other Gembound scared it into hiding with all the racket they were making. So, in order for her prey to come out and her to be able to catch it, she needed this other Gembound gone.
Having been raised by the Bloodberries, Kitaka was accustomed to the idea of demanding or just taking what she wanted. She was not used to doing it by herself though. She knew she would have to start sometime, and that Huckleberry had already had their first battle alone. They had been with Mother, at least. She was truly alone now, with no one within even a shout's distance to come to her aid.
Kit thought back to the recent training she had done with Blackberry, Huckleberry and Elderberry. She was not incompetent, she could take another small Gembound. If she proved that now, and then went back to her family with her own prize from the fight, then she could prove she had learned from their training. Even more importantly, she could prove she was better than Jayberry.
The hyena's plan came together fast, half-thought out and run mostly on hope and ambition.
She reached for her magic, willing it to bring forth a gust of air to knock over the other Gembound. She watched it continue to slip and slide, and hoped that her little nudge would send it on to its face. They would be easier to scare, and attack, once they were down.
