He was never too far away from the little cub. There were larger things in this cave, after all, so though Dragon hardly hovered overprotectively, he did remain within some measure of shouting distance.
Munkir had picked up fishing quickly, and as soon as he'd shown the will to be off on his own, and the capability to care for himself, Dragon had stepped back. It was good to be so self-sufficient, as he himself had been at a very early age. When he heard the bear cub call out, he was slipping from the damp back into the river channel in an instant, barely a splash announcing his movement.
A few moments later his dark, log-like shape glided up through the waterway, his eyes, nostrils and the ridges of his back protruding black and wet from the surface. When he at last spotted the cub he turned, thick tail propelling him to the shore.
His head emerged, dark eyes looking to the cub with curiosity. His voice came booming an instant later.
"Well, Munkir Barrattiel, how are you getting on? Do you need something?"
